These are beautiful and well-made shoes. Top class. But there were issues with sizing. My complaint is not so much with J&M as with the current dress shoe style of the day that makes getting the fit I want difficult and costs Zappos more than it ought to in shipping charges. I will call it the "Clown Shoe Effect". And that is, when I got a pair in my normal 10.5- D size there is a full two inches of empty space between the end of my big toe and the end of the shoe in the extended toe box. That is fine if that is the look that you want, but I don't like it. So I have needed to send several pairs back and forth to find the fit that I want and am accustomed to. I settled on a size 8.5 - E, a full two sizes below my true foot size. Zappos could do us and their bottom line a favor by spelling out in more detail the "clown shoe" and "traditional" sizing parameters.

These are fantastic shoes, just like other Johnston & Murphy products that I have had over the years. Sure, they cost a little more, but you absolutely get quality. The shoes are a very sturdy design and are very classic. Be warned, though, that while it may appear as a glossy wingtip, I found my pair to have a matte black finish, and not all that dark at that. This is fine by me, although I was hoping for gloss black, but I am just letting any other potential buyers know. A word about the fit: It took me three attempts to get the right size pair, but once I found them, they fit just right, even with a pair of thicker dress socks. Because it took some experimentation to find the right size, I hesitate to rate the shoe off in any dimension. I originally went with an 11E and they were as wide and long as an Aegis-class destroyer, so then I attempted to reduce both width and length and went back to a 10½D. This was too tight so I went back a third time for 11D (medium). I have grown up thinking I have a wide foot, but in this case, a medium width works just fine.

Nicely crafted, good looking shoe. The fit is more fashionable than traditional. That is to say, in my normal size (9.5) there was a lot of room beyond the toe and they were a bit narrow. I ended up buying the wide shoe a full size down (8.5 wide) and the fit is acceptable. If I didn't have a wedding this weekend when I absolutely need a burgundy wingtip, I would have returned them for a more traditional fit. If you like a longer toe box or have a narrow foot, these might be perfect for you. Still overall these are a nice shoe. I have no comment on the durability as of now.

Because another individual shared their input about over-sized toe box qualities that seem to be the new style, I followed that users advise and ordered a shoe two sizes smaller but at the maximum width than I would normally order. The 8.5 that I ordered per the reviewers input was too small and too tight. When I went up 1/2 a size to a 9 as an extra wide, I achieved about the right fit.

This is a very handsome shoe, a bit fancy, but not overly so. You can wear it with a suit or with slacks to the office. Comes two pairs of laces, a dark brown pair and a maroon colored pair. The sizing is a bit funny. Typically I would wear a size 10W but the 10W was too big for me. I couldn't even get my foot into a size 10M though. A 10.5W was the size of a boat. The 10.5M ended up fitting me fine. So you may need to do a little trial and error with getting the correct size to fit your foot.

A disappointment. I was looking for something to replace my Florsheim Castanellos; but these suffer a similar problem. These things are cut TOO long. I'm not sure if this is a trend in dress shoes today or the fact they are made out of the country and it's a quality thing or maybe a choice. But here is another otherwise good-looking shoe that doesn't fit quite right. It's a solid half size too long thus causing it to break across my toes instead of like normal. These are definitely more comfortable to stand in than the Castanellos; but the toe length is not a whole lot better. True to fit? Not quite. Just enough off to have to return them. Disappointing to learn that they do not even make Wides in the size I need....
