This is the perfect bag, but it fell apart in less than a year. I get so many compliments on it and I absolutely loved it and had to have it. I love the magnet snap. I won’t be buying another Frye though. The seams are letting go in two places after less than a year of use. I thought this would be a bag I would have forever—- but that’s not the quality you’ll get.

The stitching is undone and seams are open. I’m disappointing in this $400 bag.

First of all, please know that I'm giving Zappos customer service 5 stars! However the bag itself, is getting 2 and I had to return. I ordered the mustard color and when it arrived there were a few issues. First of all, there were brown dots and scratch marks all over the backside of the bag. The bag looks shiny and conditioned in the photo, however the one that arrived to me was very dry leather, no conditioning at all and almost felt dusty. The color was not a rich, bright mustard, it was a pale, faded yellow. And it had some sort of weird, funky smell to it. I have another frye bag that is one of my favorites and has beautiful, rich leather, so I think this one may have been a defect. But I contacted Zappos online customer service immediately and they sent out my label and refund so quickly! The rep who assisted me was very professional and helpful!! 5 stars to customer service!

I purchased this a few days ago on sale in the burgundy/wine color; I was apprehensive about the color but I love it. I have received numerous compliments already, and it matches almost everything in my wardrobe. The quality of the bag is evident. There are two slip pockets inside as well as an interior zippered pocket. The key fob would work better if it were longer, but that is my only complaint. I have read reviews that claim the handle gets in the way or is unattractive. However, I've found that the handle can be tucked into the bag and the maget closed over it. I like having the handle as it is a nice option to carry over the shoulder when commuting on the busy subway of Chicago. In addition, this bag is much lighter in weight than quality leather bags of other brands at a similar price point. This is crucial since I tend to carry (at a minimum) a large wallet, sunglasses, keys, phone, and a cosmetics bag. Perfect!

This handbag is beautifully crafted and will improve with age. It holds everything one could need; tablet, phone, makeup, bottled water - even lunch if one were so inclined. It has plenty of interior pockets and the shoulder strap is comfortable and doesn’t slip. I would love one in EVERY color available! FRYE never disappoints. I purchased my first FRYE boots when I was 16 and I have just celebrated my 65th birthday. I KNOW leather products...no one else comes this close to perfection.

I love this bag! I have it in cognac and wanted something a little lighter in color and this is perfect. It did come with quite a few scratches to the front and the back of the bag. I used leather conditioner on it twice and it faded the scratches a good bit. I have noticed that this color often comes in a very soft squishy leather that does not hold it's shape, I actually returned another bag (ordered a second to see if I could get one with less scratches before I conditioned this one) that almost had a suede feel to it. The sides of the bag were almost crumpled from the wrinkling in the leather. I preferred the scratches to the wrinkling leather. Overall I am very pleased. Melissa Hobo is a great bag.

Great handbag, a bit large

This is a wonderful bag. Based on Zappos reviews, I bought both this one and the Melissa bucket bag to compare. They're both great. The bucket bag is a little smaller at the base, then fans out (but slightly) at the top, giving it a nice shape. It also has just the one (adjustable) strap. This one, the hobo, is the same width top and bottom, and is nicely curved at the bottom. The short strap works perfectly as a shoulder strap for me, so I don't have the problem others have noted where the short strap gets in the way when using the long strap (because I don't use the long strap). I love the rounded leather of the short strap and the rounded bottom of the bag. The leather is soft and supple and, yes, scratches easily but those are also easily rubbed out. It has a rugged/weathered look that I find perfect (but if you're looking for something more refined/conservative like a Coach bag, you won't love this). I got the slate color, which is a nice dark brown without red tones. Finally, I'm 5'5" and I find this to be a biggish bag. Not too big, but if I were a few inches shorter, it might overwhelm me. Many thanks, as ever, to Zappos' return policy so I could try both bags and pick the one I liked best. (FYI: I also have the Melissa wristlet--it's fantastic as a casual wallet.)

Only 2 things keep this bag from being 5 stars...the lack of a zipper (it’s closed with a single magnet at the top) and it needs another inch in drop on the handle.

I purchased this bag in the tumbled silver last November. Unfortunately, the silver is wearing off where the bag rubs against me. I'm very disappointed. My original review was very positive, but now I've changed my mind. Dang it!

I ended up not loving it as much I thought. The finish looked a bit shiny and I found the shoulder strap wasn't as comfortable as I'd like. I was looking for a shoulder bag specifically and the drop length wasn't as roomy as I'd like (and I'm only 5'2") so I don't need tons of room. Overall, it just didn't "fit" right. I ended up going with the Melissa Bucket bag and love that one!

Shocked they sent me a used purse. It had pen marks inside and out and one pocket had q-tips in it! Gross. Sent back!

I don’t always like Hobo style bags, but this one is a keeper. It’s not too heavy, holds my things, the bag doesn’t fall off of my shoulder. I love it!

I wish I had bought a couple of the colors I saw last year. This year I bought the yellow one and the dark brown ones. Awesome bags even fit my umbrella on iffy days.

My perfect bag next to Frye Reed. Both styles stay on my shoulder, the leathers are soft and substantial. These bags may outlive me.

I have this exact bag that I bought about 2 years ago. Just wanted an update. Great product. Highly recommend. Worth the price.

The photo is a little misleading as it is bigger than I was expecting... Which was fantastic, and perfect for what I needed. I can easily fit all my essentials (keys, wallet, phone, cosmetic bag, etc). and my MacBook and iPad. Its great for commuting on the train and when it's safe to travel again, this will be my go-to for air travel. The leather is soft and I absolutely love the weathered look so scratches don't bother me at all. Only complaint is that I wish it came in the Cognac tone. This bag is amazing!
