This is a stylish backpack. My lunch bag, shoes, and book(s) fit nicely in it. The fabric is a bit rough so I'm hoping it won't cause my clothes to pill.

Great purchase. I am thrilled how this backpack has performed for me. The only discomfort I have is with the straps when the bag is really loaded (because there is SO much room!).

this is a good backpack. it has good laptop protection. it looks good as well. it also has a good amount of pockets and sections to put your stuff in.it also has good sturdy straps. best of all it has a good amount of backpack stiffness, so it will stand up by itself and provide for good backsupport.

I travel a lot and love the zip open compartment for computer and iPad. As I was packing I was almost done and realized I hadn't even used one whole compartment - there is so much room!! Love it!!

Love the color, construction, organization of pockets. I'm 5'2", and it's just way too tall for my frame. If this backpack was 3-4 inches shorter, it would be perfect for my urban commuting needs! It's just too big for my body and my lifestyle. Love it otherwise!

Perfect for working Mother on the go!:I was on the search for a back pack that would carry my laptop and various needs on my daily bike commute but then also carry all the cords and wires and stuff that is needed for international travel, and then also look good in business meetings. Sometimes I don't carry a separate handbag, so it also has to carry my wallet and cosmetic bag. I totally found what I was looking for. This bag looks good, carries what I need for all my various types of commuting, yet also is age appropriate and looks like a bag an adult would carry (cool adult). The straps are comfy with all the weight of the multiple devices and cords that I have to lug around, and the cross straps make it great for an urban bike commute. The color choices are right on trend and I have gotten several complements from both Men and Women. I see women in the airport with loaded down tote bags trying to carry it all in some designer catchall, and I think how there is no need to suffer for style any more. I traded in my worn pack that belonged in a high school locker for this beauty. Love this bag.

I have used these bags for years now and love, love Timbuk2 bags! I have a newer style and older style of the same bag. I would like to see the logo from the old style grab strap put onto the new style grab strap. It just looks so nice! The bag is a little heavy empty but not enough to stop me from using it.

For TSA precheck this is a perfect solution. Throw my suitcase on the conveyor belt and open up the TSA approved laptop section and walk on through. Plenty of little pockets to organize pens, glasses, charging wires. Room for a light jacket. It's a thin backpack so it fits nicely under a table or under the seat for flights. Plus it looks good, more professional, not like a 50 year old student. For anyone that travels for their work this is really a time saver.

This is a great bag for commuting and for overnight trips. There are plenty of pockets and hideaway spots that make everything super accessible. I'd definitely buy it again.

Great design, fabric, construction. I purchased it for my husband who wanted to replace his current bag. Only thing missing is a luggage strap to attach bag securely to your carry on. My husband doesn't want to use it unless it has one. Any suggestions how I could add one?

I am using this bag for work and transferring large laptop. It is great for 17" laptop and its accessories.

After more than 5 years of DAILY use, my previous Uptown was in serious decline. I knew exactly what I wanted to replace it. Another Uptown! I chose the Surplus color as a darker neutral that would hide dinge and dirt while looking professional in academia. The look and organizational features do not disappoint. However, the bag material feels more flimsy than my previous version. The size is wonderful. The fit feels great (I am a petite woman). One suggestion (I am surprised this wasn't addressed before)... The TSA-compliant laptop sleeve is a dream logistically. I zip and out of security lines easily. This is important for me. However, the single velcro strap inside of the zippered compartment that sits on the side requires a lot of care and attention. This is different from those backpacks where the laptop is placed from the top of the backpack. I once forgot to engage the velcro and opened the zippered compartment from the side. The laptop fell right out and dented the laptop. Since then, I pay A LOT of attention to the velcro and zippered section and I can never shake the feeling that the single velcro strap will fail me (though it never has failed).

This is my second bag. Unfortunately our new puppy ate through the web straps. I use the bag every week commuting by plane to Chicago. I originally bought the bag because it was TSA laptop friendly, but these days I have pre-check and do not have to open the bag. Still, the padding for the laptop and iPad is very good. I have two quibbles with the bag. First, it lacks structure and often it will keel over when trying to load or unload. Along the same lines, I sometimes have to fight with the straps to get access to the laptop section. Second is that it could use some padding on the bottom to protect the contents when setting the bag down (and maybe this would also fix the structure issue). I'm not sure if the bag is waterproof, but I would be careful not to set it down in a puddle. All in all, it meets my needs for a business backpack and I can load it up with tons of work stuff when I am on the road -- laptop, iPad, small radio, paper notebooks, cords and chargers, pens and pencils. Maybe on more thing: it would be nice to have a key fob in the bag. When I begin my journey I don't need to keep my house and car keys in my pocket -- and it is sometimes a pain to fish my keys out of the bag upon arrival home because they invariably end up underneath just about everything else in the bag.

I used to haul around a messenger bag, a tote bag, and a small laptop bag whenever I went to work. In hopes to downsize, I searched for a backpack here and feel in love with the Uptown upon discovering the separate laptop sleeve in the back. There are plenty of pockets, whether it's to store emergency toiletries in the more hidden pockets or placing my keys and work badge in that convenient and easy to access top pouch. Everything feels organized and secure. I do enjoy the laptop compartment in the back; I'm not afraid it's going to bump into other things I store, like an umbrella. I worried when transfering everything over into the new backpack that it would feel like a bag of bricks like my old messenger bag, but it feels almost weightless. I'm on my feet all day, so putting this on isn't a miserable experience. I do have a couple of nitpicks with this backpack. While it is grey, the color's lighter than the pictures and has a greenish hue. The zippers can require extra effort to use, which I can go either way; it keeps pockets from randomly opening, but isn't helpful when I'm running ten minutes late and need to shove everything in. My biggest gripe is the laptop sleeve with my current laptop. My previous laptop was a 13" Dell Inspiron that fit snug inside. I've recently upgraded to the Dell XPS 13 9370, which while I love, is also much smaller and thinner, thus leaving it to slide around in that compartment. It goes straight to the bottom of the backpack and I'd hate to place it down without thinking and dent my brand new laptop due to the lack of padding on the very bottom. I've ended up cutting out a piece of foam to stick in there to prevent any damage when placing my backpack down. Aside from that, I love this backpack. It's stylish, practical, and safe on my shoulders/back.

Excellent quality, lots of pockets, love the fabric. Only downside - the laptop pocket opening to the side, my laptop has slid out more than once while trying to get it out. Top loading would be more functional.

I almost always carry a coffee mug and a water bottle. One mesh pocket means one of those has to go in the bag. It would be so easy to just add another mesh pocket on the other side. If people don't want it, it's pretty much out of the way. But for those of us that need two; it's almost mandatory.

Love this pack but cumbersome to hold the top strap to my carry on handle when using for air travel. Tried to buckle shoulder straps to anchor to my carry on handle but was not tight enough. Adding a 1"x6" snapping strap would do the trick and that way it could hold itself on top of my carry on.

Top and side handles should be padded as in other models. They are not comfortable. Eyeglasses pocket should be wider and deeper.

This is a really good bag. It is a great compliment to my Wingman Carry-On. I have traveled for2 7-day trips to Cuba and Paris just using these 2 bags. There are just a few things keeping it from greatness. First the bottom of the bag is constructed so that it is front heavy and will not just stand up without being propped and even then if you have the slightest bit of weight it will tilt forward. Secondly the water-bottle holder could be a little tighter so that the heavy bottles don't just slip out. Lastly the straps could be more comfortable.

I took this backpack on a work trip to Shanghai. It is a great backpack that can fit everything you need. So many pockets (yay!) that I have trouble findings things. But I think this will resolve with more use. It is not light though.

I really like the material and the TSA computer storage since I travel for work. I worry about losing my water bottle when I use the side handles. I almost bonked someone on the head when my water bottle slipped out of the sleeve. Other than that, the bag is very attractive and offers lots of smart storage.

Bag looks average-size on the outside but I'm able to fit a ton in there (17" lap top, portable monitor, BJJ gi, in addition to small accessories). There are so many pockets/compartments I actually lose track of where I put things. I use it for everyday commutes but I can see myself taking this on a 1-2 night business trip. My biggest qualms about the backpack are that 1) the zippers seem poor in quality. they don't zip smoothly and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first thing to malfunction on the backpack; 2) the laptop compartment is not easily accessible. For example trying to get your laptop out while on a plane would be an ORDEAL.
