This is by far the best backpack I have ever owned. It is handy for around town and perfect for travel. I own two that my kids have claimed for school and need a replacement.
Unfortunately, Timbuk2 has discontinued this model. Why? Will it be back? What's the best alternative? I really like the side handle. :(

This is my absolute favorite of the 4 Timbuk2 bags I have owned. It's currently in for warranty repair of a zipper. I have my fingers crossed that it can and will be fixed!
This bag is my daily commuter bag and my favorite travel bag, particularly as my airport carry-on. It's as close to perfect as a bag can be for me! I would only make 2 additions: a luggage pass-through strap or panel and compression straps on the sides. It has the perfect amount of pockets in all the right places.
I can not even fathom why they are discontinuing it. I'm considering buying another from the garage while the one I use daily is in for repair

Picked one up from the garage. Upgraded from a previous version I had for years. By far the most organization and space without being too overbearing. 4 separate dividers! Too bad it looks like they are discontinuing it. By far one of the best they ever made.

I had recently bought the classic messenger bag (an older version) from a luggage store, thinking i would love it and it was on clearance. I also have a medium classic messenger. It was too big and cavernous and too wide when i had it loaded. And the straps is so stiff and hard to adjust. So I only used it once (wasted my money). Then i saw this back pack, also on sale on the website, a great deal, and had to buy it. I used it for the first time this past week for a work trip...and it was such a great pack. Holds all my things and has a lot of pockets for everything! Love the 'Pike' color. I really wanted more of a messenger bag, but this back pack will be used for many years. Thank you!

Perfect size bag for work but also roomy enough to fit FOUR DAYS worth of clothes for a business trip! So many pockets = so much flexibility.

I was searching for a new backpack to replace my current backpack and tote options as my carry ons. I travel often for work (domestic and international) and needed something with better support that would prevent the neck pain from carrying my laptop (2015 Macbook Pro, ~7-8lbs) on these long trips. I was suggested to check out Timbuk2, which I had never heard of previously.
This backpack has SO much room. I was able to pack for 3 days in Minneapolis in here (including a sweater, a pair of jeans, toiletries, laptop, 3 books) without a problem, and the weight distribution was much better than my other bags.
The only downside is the TSA pocket for the laptop doesn't cut it; you have to actually take your laptop out, so this pocket is a little useless for me now, but it's still a great backpack.

I bought this hoping it would be a good bag for all the stuff my kids need lugged around everywhere we go. This bag is even better than I thought it would be. There are so many separate compartments and they all open nice and wide so things aren't stuck at the bottom. The pocket for my cell phone is perfect. I really cannot say enough good things about this bag. I just wish I'd gotten it sooner!!

I was looking to upgrade from my undergrad backpack to something I could take into an office without shame. These backpack fits the bill with its all black sleek design, yet it also remains comfortable enough for me to haul around all day. I adore the number of pockets in it- I love having a pocket for everything I need. Super happy with this purchase. I also bring it as my item on planes, and it fits well under the seat, even when pretty full.

Lots of internal organization. Using it as my work backpack and occasional bike to work.
The laptop sleeve is a little tricky to access, but we'll protected

Excellent backpack especially at cyber Monday price! Only been using it for 2 weeks and so far it has been great. Very good quality on the material and construction, excellent design With lots of pockets that's usable. It's not terribly large of a backpack or bulky but still holds a lot stuff thanks to thoughtful design.

The backpack appears to be well laid out to organize and what I was looking for; a backpack for work that looks more "professional" than most of the other laptop compatible backpacks. I have yet to load it up and use it, thus to "so far: comment in the headline.

I've been using this backpack for a few years now. It's held up really well with no visible signs of wear. The multiple pockets keep everything organized--in fact the pockets are the best features of the backpack. I travel a lot too and this is the perfect travel backpack for work.

I already loved Timbuk2 because of an older messenger bag I have, but with back pain I was looking for a nice backpack that I can carry all the time. After I got this backpack I felt like some of the negative things people said about it were unnecessarily critical or not true at all for me. I am obsessed with it! Love all the pockets, high quality material and zippers, color, design - SO HAPPY! Everything I wanted and more.

This was the winner/keeper from three back packs I ordered. Pockets and straps are exactly where I would intuitively reach for them, and the zippers work smoothly. I also love the gray/navy color combination. This bag could be used to walk into a board room, on a plane, on a campus or on the street... very versatile and professional...and comfortable!

I was not relishing the thought of replacing my battered (non-timbuk2) canvas backpack, which was finally beginning to fall apart after five years of daily use, including a few years of weekly air travel. However, I have been completely happy with the Uptown backpack that I got to replace it. It is tough and has a robust design that gives me all of the organizational capabilities I want without being cluttered.

I love the classy color (mine is a light gray, I forget the actual product color description) and there is plenty of room for all sorts of stuff. It's nicely designed so you stay organized. The straps are wide and comfortable.

I got this backpack to replace a bigger one that held a 17" laptop. I wanted to be able to carry all the necessities in one bag - and this bag does that. I transferred all the stuff from my old backpack to my new one and even put my lunch in it. Glad I got this.

I have searched high and low for the perfect backpack to use as a college instructor and this one does not disappoint! The Uptown is slim in profile, fits close to my frame, and has adequate pockets to hold all my work materials. The laptop compartment securely holds my 15" 2014 MacBook Pro and charger - it's convenient to access too. The two larger zippered compartments hold binders, file folders, books, notebooks, an umbrella, etc. While I am unable to slip my insulated square lunchbox inside, I am able to utilize the smaller components for purse items and even fit in my Chacos or Converse when the heels get uncomfortable. The exterior is sleek and professional looking. The side mesh pocket for a water bottle could be deeper, but it still holds my insulated Camelbak bottle. The only other improvement I would suggest is to make some more discreet pockets like are available in the messenger versions of Timbuk2 bags.

The Uptown backpack has more than enough pockets for my needs. I like the TSA friendly feature where I can lay the laptop compartment down for security checks instead of having to take it out and putting it into a bin. The separate small pocket where I can put my sunglasses is convenient for quick access. Straps are comfortable for lugging around on city streets as well as at the airport. All in all, I really like this backpack.

This backpack was perfect for a plane ride to Africa. It stored my computer, a change of clothes, shoes, books, and a folder filled with documents. It had zipped compartments for various things like chargers, converters, adapters, and pill holders, plus my camera, wallet, and passport. It was super water resistant (not sure if it’s water proof - I only spilled on it once and the liquid balled right up and I was able to wipe it off) and the chest strap made it easier to hold my heavy load. Plus it was easy to open up for airport security. The officer even commented what a “clever bag” it was.

I am loving this backpack. I bought it because I ride my bike a few miles to and from the train during my commute and my system of multiple bags was not working. This fits everything I need even for my busiest day: laptop (plus tablet if you need), gym clothes and sneakers, lunch, tea thermos, water bottle, neon bike vest and lights, reading material and notepads, and my usual everyday stuff (wallet, phone, headphones, pouches for random things, etc.). And there is PLENTY more room if I need it, like if I receive a package at work and need to bring that home with me. Honestly you could fit multiple textbooks in here or use it for a whole weekend away and fit everything you need.
It's especially great for bike commuters. My u-lock fits in the side pocket and I can get it in and out with a little contorting, and there's a loop on the back for a bike light. It's not the coolest looking bag in the world (I don't think any backpack is), but it's neat and professional in the navy color. It doesn't look too sporty and it doesn't ever look overstuffed on a busy day or saggy if I have a lighter day. I'm a 5'3" woman and it's not too big for my frame.
