Took these to go camping in Iceland. It rained the whole time. Forged streams and rivers in these. They stayed dry unless water toppled over the top. I loved these!!

These are super cute, sturdy and exactly what I was looking for in function and looks. However they definitely run small. I wear a 9.5 or a 10 in all shoes and ordered these in a 10. My toe was right up against the end so exchanging to a size up (no half size available).

They felt a *little bit* small. Not quite a half size smaller, but.... If you're hiking you want to make sure your toes don't ram into the end of the boot when you're going downhill. So if in doubt, get a half-size up. In addition, many years of hiking have taught me that you MUST have waterproof boots. Period. Especially up here in the soggy Pacific Northwest. So I was happy to see that these are waterproof.

These boots are pretty well-made for the price, and are great for summer hikers, weekend warriors who aren't looking to do any severe trails or boggy hiking, or for teens who won't be needing them for more than a year or two anyway. They are comfortable, have excellent contoured soles, decent padding throughout, and are reasonably priced. I bought these for my daughter, as she had graduated from generic 'tennis' shoes to needing something more substantial for trails, and these have worked beautifully. The sizing is accurate for her average width, the heel inside is designed to accommodate fairly narrow heels to average width heels, and width reflects the same considerations. The upper material is primarily webbing for ventilation with leather supporting strips, and seems like it will be forgiving in terms of mild stretching if someone's foot were a bit wider than normal. The only kind of odd thing about these, is that the tongue of the boot is attached up to about ankle-height, so you have to kind of push it inside before you lace it. I know, you always have to do that, but in this case, it's thick enough fabric right there that it seems kind of awkward and bulky at the speed-tab lace line. Not a big problem for us, and probably not for you either! :-) Overall, a good boot, and well worth the money.

I rated these poor because one of the lacing buckles popped off the first time I tried to tie them, although they look well made. They are very attractive boots. There is no arch support. The insert is cheap with no support. These are very stiff boots. They have excellent aggressive soles.

Hi-Tec Skamania Waterproof are awesome shoes. I had a few days of a rubbing down by my ankle when I fist put them on since breaking them in they have been great shoes that are very comfortable to be in all day. I wore them out in the rain and they kept my feet warm and dry. I recommend buying them.

I ordered a 9, my regular size, and they were a bit tight. I exchanged them for the 9.5, and they seem perfect. I wear a 9.5 in Skechers, too, so it must be activity type shoes. I found a very old pair of HiTecs in my closet, and they were 9.5, too. Also, we ordered the same (mens) boots for my husband and he had to exchange his for a half-size larger. My boots are very cute, and seem comfortable. Have just worn them around the house because we are planning a trip to Yosemite and thought waterproof boots would be a good idea. I remember I really liked the other HiTecs, and they are priced very reasonably.

I ordered these shoes for a November trip to Iceland as I knew it would be too cold for my regular running shoes but that my big winter boots would be too bulky and not appropriate for glacier hikes. I was right, and these shoes were perfect! They have great stability on ice, are warm when paired with wool socks, and needed very little breaking in before I wore them for days of outdoor adventuring. I did not find them to be too small, even with wool socks, and am glad I ordered my original size. I do have narrow feet with high arches, though, so that may have something to do with how sizing worked out for me. These are great shoes and Zappos made getting them easy and quick--happy all around!

I am an 8 or 8.5, depending on the shoe, but typically an 8. After reading the reviews I decided to order up a half size and go with the 8.5 but once I got them they were too big! Ended up making another order to purchase the 8 and I can definitely also see why people say they run small- it's the width.
The 8.5 fit great width wise, but they were way too long. And the 8 fit in the length but, yes, they are rather tight. I'm hoping after breaking them in that won't be problem. Other than that GREAT sturdy boot and I'm glad I got them!
And side note: the bottom of the 8 was pink /grey but the bottom of the 8.5 was purple / grey. Photo attached

My last pair of Hi-tecs just wore out after 7 years. As a farmer I wear boots in mud, water, and in very rough conditions. These new ones look and feel like putting on the same shoes without the dings I have made. Wonderful, and hard working shoes.

I have worn Hi-Tec Skamanias for over 6 years as they are perfect for my wide feet & light hiking needs - mostly 3-6mi day hikes in snow, desert sands, rocks & mountainous trails. This pair is a different shoe - 2 cleats up the ankles instead of one which is actually better, but on one shoe the cleats were spaced closer together on one side than the other making it hard to loop the lace around. The foot bed on the right shoe seemed to be set at a different angle causing intense pain after about 15 minutes walking inside. Sadly I have to return them & search out a different wide, light hiking boot.

If you need good arch support, you would need to add support. However for the price, unless you are a long distance hiker, they are worth buying!

So happy I got these! Fit right out of the box, no break-in required, and have been super comfortable for miles already. Just the right amount of ankle support, too.

I love these boots. We hike in the spring and hunt morels. These were excellent at keeping my feet dry during rain storm. I normally wear a size 8 but in Hi-Tec I have to go up a size to a 9.

Just received my new hiking boots yesterday. So far so good. I'm glad I read the reviews, especially on the sizing. I usually wear a size six and went up a half size to 6.5. So glad I did. I wore them around the house last night with the type of socks I will wear while hiking and they felt great!!! I know I still need to break them in but for putting them on for the first time, they felt really good. I will need to get used to the support going above my ankle but in the long run that's what I'll need while hiking. I also love the color. I was torn on whether to get the other color provided with the purple accents but so glad I got the one I chose (taupe/dune/violet). It's not flashy but suitable for their purpose.

I bought these shoes for November in Iceland and they didn’t disappoint! Now, I’m a freeze baby and wore two pairs of socks with them, but they ARE waterproof and they have killer grip on ice. I didn’t have to worry about my feet getting wet or flung out from underneath me on the rugged terrain, which is very important. Plus, they’re cute, too! Definitely one of my best shoe purchases from Zappos. Five stars.

They work great and keep my feet dry. They really need to be broken in, they give some really bad blisters so get them worn in before going on a serious hike and have some mole skin!

Very comfortable - no beak it time required! Wore these, right out of the box, on a trip to Peru. Walked endlessly with no discomfort at all.

I like the look and style but even though I ordered a 1/2 size up, my toes pushed against the front of the boots. They were quite roomy but too short so had to return them and keep up the search.

I usually wear a 10.5 to 11 size medium width athletic shoe to ensure good toe clearance.
The Hi-tec shoes instantly rubbed against my big toe, without even trying to stand up and walk in the shoe. The shoe was also uncomfortably more narrow than the Columbia shoes I also tried. Whatever shoe-last Hi-Tec is using, it certainly isn't anything close to the Columbia shoe. The final insult was the cut of the high ankle cuff was awkward and fell in a truly peculiar location on my ankle bone.
For comparison, I ordered a pair of Columbia Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof Amped boots in a nearly identical style as a size 11 at the same time as these Hi-Tec boots. The Columbia boots fit perfectly and provided enough clearance at the front of the shoe so that my toes did not bang into the front of the shoe when I walked. The ankle cut tapered correctly for my foot and did not cause discomfort.
If you have a need for a wide toe box or your foot is not particularly narrow I would definitely not try to squeeze into these shoes. The styling was very nice and they seem sturdy, however you'll need to order way up on these and, of course, they top out at 11. That's assuming the ankle cuff fits you better than it did me.
