A word of advice: Try them on before you buy.
Purchased these for an upcoming trip. The material is soft and stretchy and the overall fit was true to size, however, the thigh area where the zippers connect the shorts to the pantlegs is NOT stretchy at all, and is cut a little too snug... as a result the area becomes uncomfortably tight when you sit down. My legs are average size, not overly fat or muscular, so I feel this is a design issue. Just a half-inch more "breathing"room around the leg opening would alleviate this problem, and still give the desired slimline appearance. Returning for the next size up, and hoping they won't end up being too large everywhere else :-(

I ordered these pants in 2 different sizes, 4 and 6, since I usually wear a 4 in all brands but wanted to make sure I had some that fit for an upcoming trip. The pants are really nice, but the 4 and even the 6 were significantly small in the waist. I wonder if all Columbia pants are smaller in the waist than other brands?

Pants fit fine, but the two snaps on the waist are so tight, that I can not get them undone to get out of the pants...hardware on this particular pair is simply too tight and difficult to unfasten

DO NOT BUY THESE PANTS!!! The description for these pants said their use is for hiking. The first time I wore them hiking I came home with many snags on the pant legs, especially near the bottom. They are NOT suitable for hiking in natural areas. Only paved surfaces. This fabric sticks on everything when you are hiking.

I am very frustrated with these pants. I received them as a gift in my usual size, and they were too small, so I returned them and reordered them one size up. I just received those and they are still too small in the waist, especially to be active in. If I go up another size, they will be way too long. Would not recommend.

The overall fit was good but the seam across the thigh where it unzipped is way too tight. I returned and will shop for hiking pants with no seam

As I read through the other reviews I did decide to go up one size in these pants, due to sizing. They fit fine in the waist but the larger size made everything below the waist much to big. They would be great pants if Columbia can get the measurements figured out. Returned pants.

Beware the pants fit great but the zipper on the legs is too small. The bags are baggy above the zipper. The leg actually tappers in at the zipper.

The size of the legs was far too small for the size of the pants, even after ordering a larger size. Very disappointed after replacing a pair of beloved Columbia convertible pants worn to tatters.

They were simply too small. I have another pair of Columbia pants in this size but this one just wasn't going to work.

Sadly that is the only thing wrong with these pants. My daughter and I are sizes 4 and 6 and don't have thick thighs. When we bend our knees the circulation gets cut off. The leg zipper is also tight when we walk.

I bought 2 pairs of these pants because I love my other columbia pants so much.
The fit is terrible. I bought the same size I always do and while overall the pants fit -- the area where the pants zip off is extra tight. If the zippers were larger or didn't exist at all, they would be great.

Everything fit well, but there is no stretch in the thigh area due to the zipper. It made for a very uncomfortable hike. The color "dark nocturnal" is navy, which looked like black online when I ordered it. The overall quality is what you'd expect from Columbia, which is good. However, the construction/execution of the "convertible" aspect of these pants made it a disappointment for me.

So disappointed in these pants. This is my second try for Saturday Trail pants from Columbia. I'm a size 8, 5'9" tall and 135 pounds. The pants fit great in the waist and length, but the zipper area is ridiculously tight. You basically can only stand in these pants, you can't sit, walk, run or climb. So, anyone with normal sized thighs or even muscular thighs will not be able to wear these comfortably. I have tried a size 10, but they were too big in the waist and bagged out everywhere else.

Pretty pants, for true to size (I got a size 4 which I normally wear in Columbia pants, am 5'6" and weigh 118 lbs). However, when I tighten my thigh muscles (hiking uphill, steps, squatting,...), the zipper which converts them into shorts cuts into my skin. I can't wear them.

These pants fit perfectly which stretch to move, but when I squat in this style, the shorts conversion zippers cut off my circulation because they don't stretch. I have normal thigh. I'm a 5' 7" and a 136 pounds. I will definitely return it.

After the first wash they wrinkled. I don't iron and don't want clothes that wrinkle.

These pants fit like my favorite Saturday trail pants which stretch to move, but when I squat in this style, the shorts conversion zippers cut off my circulation because they don't stretch. Also the "short" inseam length is a bit long for petite. I'm 5'3'' and 123 pounds with well developed quad muscles. A petite 6 is my usual size. Conversion pants should be looser in the leg. I'm returning them.

I really wanted to love these pants, but they are poorly designed. The zippers for the pants-to-shorts conversion are way too tight. I ordered them in my usual size and then another size up when those didn't fit thinking it would fix the problem. Sadly, it did not. The waist band was much looser, but the zippers were still extremely tight on my thighs. I have an athletic build, but am not overly muscular, so I cannot recommend these for anyone with an athletic build - especially not if you have hiking leg muscles. :(

The pants are pretty comfortable anywhere except the part where the zipper is attached. They make the zipper too small for the pant leg. Only fit women with stick legs. Also the stitching ripped and I've only worn them a handful of times. Very disappointed in the quality and subpar fit. Please make a fit that doesn't constrict movement for an outdoor pant.

I was so excited to order these convertible pants, as I've purchased similar pants at the outlet store. I ordered a 6 regular, wow. They run really small and a short rise. I'm afraid these will be returned.

Not for anyone who has muscular thighs and a small waist. The pants cut off circulation in my legs because they are so tight.

Aesthetically, these pants look great, material is nice, and they fit true to size. That is, until you try to bend your leg and the zipper cuts into your thigh!
Clearly, they didn't take any steps to modify the cut of the pants, in order to accommodate the zipper. Its like they made the pants and then decided to add the zipper after the fact.
These are without a doubt the worst convertible pants ever. Unfortunately, i didn't realize how awful the pants were, until it was too late to return them.
For reference, I am a size 4 (125lb), slender to average build. Given the fit, a 6 size would have been too big in the waist/ hips.

OK, others thought the sizing was good. ?? Pants were too big. Must be made someplace where there is no quality control.
