Quick summary: These are worth the price, incredibly sturdy, won't let you down I bought a pair of these 2.5 years ago and have hiked several hundred miles in them (no exaggeration, I hike like it's my second job). These boots LAST. I'm honestly amazed they haven't broken down from all the wear and tear I've put them through. I get tons of compliments on them because of the beautiful red color. The bottom of the boot is interesting because Oboz is the only company I know that rounds out the heel. What that means is instead of a boxy type of boot bottom like you see with every other type of hiking boot, this style rolls with your forward motion. It took a little getting used to in the beginning but now I find I can't go back to my other pair of hiking boots because the gait isn't as smooth. I generally prefer hiking in these boots to hiking in shoes because I roll my ankles a lot, and I find these boots have excellent ankle support that prevents me from ankle injuries when I'm out on the trails. The tread on the bottom of the boot holds better than I expected. For all of the hikes I've put it through the tread hasn't worn down to the point that the boots need to be replaced. That part alone makes this purchase worthwhile. The tread on my favorite trail runners is already bald and I use those shoes far less than these boots; these things are made to last. These boots are expensive but they are a classic case of "you get what you pay for." The only minor complaint I have is the toe box, sometimes even when I tight-lace my boots my feet will still slide forward and impact my toenails on downhill slopes. But that's my only complaint. These boots have hiked everything from Half Dome in Yosemite to Kanarra Falls in Utah to Cactus 2 Clouds in Palm Springs to Death Valley and beyond. They can handle any terrain wet or dry. I've hiked with them up snowy mountain tops and in monsoons, they handle very well in snow and rain and kept my feet dry. My only other piece of advice is to go up a half size when you order them because these puppies run a little small. Excellent hiking boots overall, I'm a very happy customer!

I wanted to love these boots because they're so cute, but back they go. The Oboz is a more structured hiking boot. You definitely feel secure and solid wearing them. They have a roomy toe box, but I was immediately aware of the arch support. A bit too much arch for me! If you need a lot of arch support, this might be the boot for you. As for sizing-- It's just a bit on the small side. I'd say if you're in between sizes and are planning to wear hiking socks, you might want to go up a 1/2 size.

Oh I cannot say how much I love these fresh out of the box red OBoz hiking boots. These boots are so outstanding I am going to take the time to review them —which I seldom do. I was a Vasque Sundowner Hiker for 20 years, size 8. I’m 60 with a wide foot. Over the last 20 years my feet have grown a bit and I decided to try a boot that is lighter weight. Based on other reviews I ordered both an 8 1/2w and an 9w, to compare. The 9 wide was love at first fit and I never even opened the 8-1/2W to compare. I wear both a liner and thick wool sock and have wide feet and high arches. I live in Washington DC and this morning I did a test hike and walked all over the national mall. I forgot I was wearing hiking boots. Except when I looked down and saw those cute red boots on my feet! ?? True, I haven’t tested them out doing elevation yet… that comes next. My old stomping grounds, the Grand Canyon awaits next month. By then the boots will be ready to be laced up nice and tight for that ultimate relentless downhill I know so well. Get them! Btw I still wear 39s in no sock Birks to give some idea of sizing. Go one full size up if your feet sound like mine. I will check back in on comfort and durability if anything changes. I went through 4 pair of Vasquez in 20 years. Also this needs mentioning... Thanks Zappos. One day service. Free easy returns. Excellent customer service. I’ve ordered from Zappos for years. Excellent. A rare gem these days! I’ve never ordered two pair at once knowing I would only keep one. It is wasteful and cuts into your bottom line so I won’t abuse the privilege.

I usually buy keen boots and have high arches w a wide foot. I found these boots to be sturdy but w very little room in the toe box, and also very little cushion in the sole. I could actually feel rocks through the bottom of the boot. I like the style a lot and think that maybe this boot is meant for someone with narrow flatter feet than myself. Well made boot though and cheaper on other sites as well.

I am a true 8.5 and the 9s fit perfectly. I wear custom orthotics and they fit comfortably in these boots. I know that my ankles will be secure while I am hiking and I love that they make my feet look small.

Excellent hiking boots! I am a true 8.5 and I ordered a 9 and they fit perfectly. I wear custom orthotics and they fit comfortably in these boots. The grip is good and it will keep my ankles secure. I love the leather and that they make my feet look small. Worth the price!

[UPDATE] I'm sorry, I wanted to give such raving review like some buyers here, wanted so much to love this boots and was hoping it would be my BFF kind of boots! Alas, I have to say this is the most uncomfortable $200 (w/ tax) boots I've ever bought! I bought this back in June. I'm size 7.5 and prefer "wide" width. So, I ordered 7.5 and 8 in "wide" in red to try, decided to keep the 7.5 and sent the 8 back bec I didn't need the length, I needed the width.... [WARNING] to those who are seeking "wide" hiking boots... this Oboz turned out to be "C" wide, NOT "D" wide.... so it's SMALLER than the "D" wide we're familiar with, it's in between the reg "medium" width and "D" wide width.... So, that being said, you're not going to get that much width as expected. It's barely give enough room in the forefoot and toe box area to be comfortable even with light cotton summer socks on. But what made me most miserable is the boot cuffs around the ankles.... after 1 week wore them around the house and a combined of 15 miles walking in them... the boots still didn't want to yield! Not soften up in my attempt to break them in, my ankles around the cuffs would be bruised and sored for a week afterwards each time. The little toes would start rubbing against the side of toe box when going down just a small incline of only about 5-10 degrees, the bunion areas also started to feel the pressure and cramped.... I don't know how much longer these boots will be pliant and soften up enough that I won't cringe every time I take them out. The design is really cute, I give 5 stars for the style/design/colours. First Oboz's boots I've ever bought, maybe the last if every Oboz boots will give me this same experience, I would rather avoid. Expect more comfort from a $200 (w/ tax) pair than this. [P.S.] Zappos is as wonderful as always, let me exchange/return as much as I need to with no extra charge and prompt refund. Thank you Zappos C/S ladies and gents, you are the BEST! That's why I've been shopping for shoes @ Zappos since 2011.

I have wide feet and these tend to run narrow. I ordered the wide in a half size larger and was pleased with the fit. I use these for hiking and camping in Colorado and they hold up well in the rocky terrain. I would buy these again!

I'm on is my second pair of these. I wear them hiking and just walking around. In the winter they are usually my every day shoe. They are warm and waterproof and I wear them in snow a lot. I wear a 7 or a 7.5 but with these I get the 7.5 so there is plenty of room for heavier socks and the laces make them easy to adjust. I find them very comfortable and good on all kinds of terrain.

I ordered a half size up, and the wide width (8W), for a roomy toe box. They were still too short overall, so I'd order a full size up. The width and toe box was ok, but my little toes were still cramped. The arch support was also in the wrong spot, too close to the heel. They're removable inserts, so that's any easy fix. A little too heavy and clunky looking.

I normally wear an 8.5, but in hiking shoes size up to 9 or in these I had to go with 9.5. I bought these before Zappos carried Oboz brand and just have to leave a review for you on these wonderful boots. They do not make my feet like big, they are comfortable beyond belief, no blisters or hot spots. I did a 12 mile hike in these and my feet were not fatigued or sore in any way. I have ball of foot pain and had no issues with these boots even at the 12th mile. These boots have a springy, yet stable sole. Great quality, detailed workmanship, good-looking. I put my own orthotic in for more arch support. My only issues: they do not breath well on hot, sweaty, humid days. And the grip although great in dry conditions, was inordinately slippery on smooth wet rocks. I hope Oboz can fix this on future productions of this boot. Even so, I highly recommend them.

I am so bummed to report that I loved everything about these boots except that parts of the outer sole of one boot became unglued during my second hike ?

I LOVE these hiking boots. They fit true to size and have really good arch support. For my foot shape, these are perfect -- narrow ankles/heel and a wider ball of the foot, with high arches. Right out of the box, I hiked 5 miles in them, and they were perfectly comfortable. I've now hiked in them in wet and snowy conditions and discovered they are quite waterproof and very warm. LOL even when I accidentally broke through the ice on a frozen stream and the frigid water came in over the top of my boots, they stayed cozy warm for the rest of my hike despite the damp socks. They have very good traction in ice, snow and mud. I also love the dark red color, and find them surprisingly easy to clean. When they got muddy, I literally just walked around in a clean puddle and poof, they're clean again. I'm recommending these boots to friends and family.

I've hiked every week year-round in northern NY/VT and run several times per week in these boots for about 5 years. Most comfortable hiking boots I've had. At first, the soles had superior grip and the uppers were waterproof. After several years of hard wear, the soles are no longer fantastic on ice or in wet, slippery conditions and the uppers are not waterproof. It's hardly a bad review to say that stuff doesn't last forever, though. This is all with no maintenance, either. I've been happy with these in almost all conditions, from snow to rock to running 2 miles. Had a problem just once when I wanted to kick my heels into a steep, snowy slope to create steps but the rounded heels were not good for that. Otherwise, the rounded heels have let me feel very nimble and well supported compared to chunkier heels. I have wide toes and narrow heel that are hard to fit. These are generally fine, but when I hike 3+ hours, I start to feel pressure on the nail of my little toe. I'd like a wider toe box and may try a men's size when I replace.

I bought these boots for some serious day hiking and light backpacking. I was looking for something a little more structured than my Keens, but not overly heavy. Break in period was minimal and after a few 5-10 mile hikes I did 25 miles over the CD trail in RMNP, CO. At about the 22 mile mark my feet were tired and I should have stopped to check my boots. As they loosened up I got some rocks in the heels of my socks and they rubbed blisters. I was able to put the same boots on the next 3 days of my trip and continue hiking without pain. I've worn the boots several miles since w/o trouble. Boots do run 1/2 size to full size smaller and maybe on the narrower side, which fit my needs. Felt very safe in all terrain and kept my feet dry through many creek and stream crossings. Love the red color!

First, these are gorgeous boots, the construction is sturdy and well thought out and they feel amazing (if you size up 0.5-1.0 sizes). The soles are rugged and secure and feel like they could last a thousand miles, and best of all, they are wonderfully engineered to keep you from rolling toward the outside of your foot. They didn’t feel like they were going to take much if any breaking in. But they were a bit more boot than I need right now, I’m looking for a day hike (rough terrain but not packing everything) boot, and these were quite a bit more than that. I am very sad to return them, because they are also the nicest looking boots I’ve tried on.

Walking around my house, this boot felt great! It really had no break in period. On an 11 mike trail through Yellowstone though, my feet definitely felt fatigued...I’m thinking I might try a new insole for that. Still very happy with the boot...seemed toasty and waterproof. My choice was between the Merrell Moab but this boot felt way more comfortable.

These boots were really comfortable, but not sufficiently supportive for what I need them for - a trek in Tibet. If I were doing a less intensive hike, I would have kept them. Instead I traded them out for the Oboz Wind River III, which feel better equipped for a multi day backpacking excursion. I usually wear a 9, but purchased the 9.5 and they fit perfectly with medium weight hiking socks.

This is a great hiking boot, offers structure and support. Is not stiff around the ankle. I am a size 8 with a C width (as measured a few months ago at a shoe store). I purchased the wide Oboz Bridger, even though I can fit into a medium, because I like lots of extra room in the toe box. In my experience, this boot runs a full size too small in length. I have a pair that is three years old and a size 9, which fits perfectly on my size 8 foot. The same is true again with this new pair—a great boot but remains full size too short. I usually hike on flat trails or rocky beaches for perhaps two hours at a time. This boot remains secure and comfortable. I also do not have to add additional arch support—what is supplied is sufficient, and I am picky about arch support.
