I'm absolutely shocked the reviews aren't strong on this model. It's an absolutely amazing shoe. I have plantar fasciitis and bunionettes (bunions on the outside of your foot--near the little toe), and my podiatrist specifically recommended this model and the ariel by Brooks when I came in for a cortizone shot after a PF flare up. Both were good but the New Balance keeps my foot in place much better and is lighter. I usually prefer a narrow heel and wide toe box, and excellent support is needed since I have a high arch and the PF. I thought the toe box on this one--though not as wide as some others--still gives plenty of room. The soft sides have "give" for my buionettes so there isn't rubbing. The arch support is enough that I can wear these without my orthotics on a long walk and still feel great the next morning. And these are way better looking than the other stability shoes I've gotten from NB in the past (I'm a fan of the 847 and the 928 but they certainly aren't anything to look at--and the heel in the 928 runs a little wide for me). Definitely suggest folks give this model a try. I think it's perfect.

Comfortable right out of the box! Lots of room for bunions! This shoe has the New Balance SL-2 shoe last, which has a narrower heel and a wider toe box.

I'm so sad that NB had to go and mess up the original 1540. I wore that shoe for years. This version just doesn't have the same feel as far as comfort, support, and stability control. I would have kept it anyway because it's still probably the best running/walking shoe for over-pronators but I can't get past the ugly color choices they have for women.

This model is the replacement model for 1123 (per New Balance customer service). I have had two pairs of model 1123 in the past in size 6½, so I assumed that I would wear a 6½ in this new model. That is not true. The 6½ in this new model is a bit too small. So while the older model runs a bit large, this recent model runs true to size. I am returning the 6½ that I originally ordered and exchanging for a 7. I absolutely love New Balance sneakers. This particular model has relieved all of my plantar faciitis symptoms.

Great shoe for exercise walking. I have "difficult" feet - e.g.: pronate, wide, have had bunion surgery on both feet. I needed a well cushioned sneaker for my exercise-walking and this pair are really perfect for that. If I were lighter/running I might think these are a bit too heavy/clunky - but for what I needed them for they are perfect. Supportive, well cushioned great for long mileage walking.

I'm so disappointed with New Balance. I've been wearing New Balance for 20 years because it had been the only shoe to provide comfort for my problem feet. I've tried 3 pairs of their shoes this week and none fit good. The heel is to short and no matter how tight I tighten the laces I get heel slippage. The toe box is tight and there is less of an upper in general. I have a high instep and have to almost completely expose the toung to lace the shoe around the top of my foot. My feet have not changed. I guess it's time to make a trip out of town to a shoe store that has a Pedorthist and find a shoe that will work for me.

I am an overpronator and a fan of NB sneakers. However, I don't care for this sneaker. I felt like I was walking on half of a shelf --from the arch back to my heel felt like a stiff board with a noticeable dip in the front. I can't explain it better than that and it just wasn't comfortable for me. Otherwise, the sizing seemed right.

I wear these with custom orthotics and the fit is great. They’re not a young person’s sneaker but my gosh they’re comfortable.

This is the first time I've purchased New Balance. It was recommended to me by the local Good Feet store because of the roll bar sport in its heels. I've only worn them a couple of days but I'm very happy with the fit and comfort. I love how my toes have plenty of room. My feet stay pretty cool in the hot summer compared to other brands I've worn. I especially like the silver/ turquoise color as I have many clothes those colors. I'm a pretty happy camper at this point!

These were the shoes I got to replace Skechers. I worked at the Post Office and wanted and needed something comfortable. They did not provide enough support and I really needed the support and comfort. These are super!! You won't regret buying a pair of these shoes. They fit perfect. My first thought was to buy the double wide just in case of needing more room, but, I did not and am glad, they fit great. Put on these shoes right out of the box and walked around the house- no problem. Wore them shopping for about 2 hours and still felt great. I love, love, love these shoes. Will purchase again!!!

this shoe has the look I like and the rollbar I need. very good fit and stability.

These shoes fit perfectly - feel like they are made for just my feet. I love them so much I bought 2 more pairs. Hope New Balance does not change this style!!!!!!!

I have osteo arthritis in my left foot so my doctor suggested I buy these shoes for the support. I like them. They have a stiff feel, which is why I assume the doc suggested them, for the support. I prefer more wild colors on my tennis shoes, but this will do. Hope my feet get better wearing them.

I have a lot of foot issues - bunion and fusion on first 3 joints of Right foot with surgery. I am now facing an ankle fusion on the right ankle. I bought these in 2 sizes so the brace I wear on the right foot requires a half size larger than the left. The left foot has a large bunion but the width is so good it doesn't rub in a size 7. I wish they made them in black. I am a Realtor and have to wear with my dress pants but people are understanding. I would definitely buy these again!

This is my first pair of 1540V2 shoes and I love these shoes. The style is very nice and the navy color came with both navy and pink sets of shoelaces-a nice touch! They were true to size and comfortable for my feet which need stability shoes. Perfect arch support for my foot. They were slightly large in the heal for me but they became a good fit when I used the very top notch of the lace holes. I love NB stability shoes.

I have been wearing this style shoe for years for the stability it provides. I normally wear an 8.5 wide sandal/shoe but in this athletic shoe I needed a 9.5 XX. The shoe looks long on my foot but it fits well, is comfortable and they are lighter than my last pair.

I have had lots of foot problems in the past- plantar fasciitis, torn ankle ligaments, over-pronation and just recently a stress fracture. My podiatrist strongly recommended New Balance shoes and specifically those with the Roll bar to help stabilize my foot. These shoes were extremely comfortable from the moment I put them on! I have worn New Balance in the past and there always seemed to be a brief breaking-in period but these were good to go from the start! My foot feels very secure in these shoes and does not seem to wobble. My ankles feel very supported and there is not much if any wiggle room in the ankle area which is important for stability. I like the mesh design as the shoe is comfortable to wear in warm weather and my feet tend to sweat a lot. I have only had these shoes about a week but already my foot is feeling less fatigued when I am walking. Will definitely purchase these again!

These shoes are not blue. They are purple.

This is the second pair of this sneaker I have bought and I love them. I have scoliosis and sadly it has caused several other issues, including some orthopedic, including pronation in my left ankle. I highly recommend this sneaker to any who have ankle issues or needs extra support. I have tried several different styles of sneakers and found that this style is the only one who addresses my needs. My only complaint is the price. I certainly hope New Balance does not decide to "restyle or update" this sneaker.

Loved the shoe, but they are just too narrow for my extra extra wide feet. Would have exchanged them for the 4-E, but regrettably none are available at Zappos.

These are perfect for my various foot issues. I need good padding under the ball, slightly stiff sole and now I know that I need a wide width to accommodate my orthotics and allow my foot to spread out comfortably. The roll-bar took a couple of hours to get used to but really work. For fun I tried some yoga balance poses in these - perfect balance; tried the same poses barefooted and I could barely hold them! I'm hoping they will keep my ankles from their occasional collapse from under-pronation (collapsing to the outside of the foot, resulting in an embarrassing fall!) After a month I noticed a small crack in one of the nubs in the center of the sole. Still worked fine but I reported to Scott at Zappos and - presto! - they're sending a new pair. As usual, Zappos is the best!

Great alternative to Brooks Ariel! Comfortable out of the box and adequate support for my bad old feet. Happy to get them on sale as the v3 has come out. Will probably try those in a few months.

I returned these because they felt uncomfortable in the toe box area, they didn’t have as much padding as my current Brooks running shoe.
