First let me say I love these—cute style, great fit. No need to break them in. Because of the laces, the calf size with a zipper is a non-issue. Only criticisms are that the tongue is long, floppy, and unwieldy trying to get them on. Also, if you’re expecting tough and rugged Dr. Martins of the past, these are not the boots. The leather is VERY thin and soft. Dare I say rather too thin. They look great—might not be very long lasting though. Time will tell!

The size on Zappos shows US sizes. I ordered an 8. When it arrived I noted is was European sizing and was a 39. I am almost always a 8 in US but sometime a 7.5. I might try a 38 as I liked the lighter weight leather of these as a replacement for my 20 year old doc I bought in London. But I was hoping they were higher on my calf too. I may explore one of those models too.

I agree with other reviews about the stitching across the arch. Mine were made in Vietnam, and everything feels fine except the tight stitching across the top of the boot.

Solid purchase. ( size 10 shoe, 6 ft, 165 lbs) I like these boots a lot. Baggy calves on boots annoy me. The zipper on these pretty much fixed that. The leather is very soft ( I wish it was a bit thicker) and I was able to wear them immediately with no break in period. As other if stated - they may be a little narrow where the bottom of laces start - but my average width foot was fit fine.

The leather is definitely on the thin side, and larger than normal. Thick socks seem to do it though. I tried a size smaller but it was too small. I do have some chafing on the heel but I'm not sure if it's because they still need to be broken in or because they're a little too big. They're great though!

These boots won me after a month-long of boots hunting. They really need to be broken in, and it takes some time to get to know them. After two week of wearing it on and off, it does get more comfortable and easier to put on each time. So I guess it's true what they generally say about Doc Martens (I googled) - I should just be patient and it'll pay off. I was so disappointed when I first received them, because I even had trouble putting my feet in - and I've never had this before (my feet are medium width - I never required special width). I immediately contacted Zappos Live Help in such a disappointment because I was so looking forward to these boots - they said that even if I exchanged it to a bigger size, the width will be the same. For the mere sake of style, I decided to hang on to it, and it's starting to pay off. Later I realized that it was the design that caused the trouble of putting my feet in. The way the zipper and the eyes/lace were placed makes you put your foot in sideways, which feels quite a bit different from other zipped boots with no lace. Once my feet are in, though, the width is all good. Also, my calves are 15" - and at first I couldn't zip these all the way up without extreme sweating! I even hurt the side of my right index finger pulling the zip up (apparently my left foot/calf might be slightly bigger than my right). But I learned that with a bit of play on the lace width, and a certain position of my feet (counterintuitively, I have to tense up my calf muscles instead of relaxing them), zipping them has now become quite easy. Sytle-wise, I love these boots. I really like the cut, that's somehow making my ankles look very slender, and that I also stand a bit taller with them on (I'm 5'0"). I've replaced the shoelaces with silk ribbons and so now they look even cooler. On long walks, I tend to feel pain on the sides of my foot, which is weird. I hope this will also go away eventually. The more I put my effort on them, the more they respond. The more I got to know them, the better they feel. Quite promising ingredients for a true love.

This is my second tall boots from Dr. Martens and, unlike the first one, I need no break in for this great pair. I wore it to work the next day after I received it, walked around campus all day (yes, it's summer time, but I couldn't resist!), and no blisters. The leather is different as well; it's more supple than the usual Dr. Martens' leather. I can see this is going to be my go to boots well into the winter time.

Run large, cute but look way too heavy. Personal preference.

The fit across the arch was far too small for my foot. If I'd tried a size bigger the arch would've probably fit but the rest of the boot would've been too big. I have to return them unfortunately. Love the style.

For years, brown Dr Martens have been the holy grail for me. As I've worn my black ones into the ground over a period of 12+ years, I've always thought: man, I wish I could get them in brown! Then I saw these, and fell in love. Alas... it turns out that Dr Martens for women are cut too narrow for my (slightly) wider-than-average feet. I could barely get them on with thin socks, and they were unbearably tight over the front of the foot (the part that can't be adjusted by loosening the laces). I would recommend these only if you have quite a slender foot. In the end, I got the unisex 1460s, and they're perfect.

I wore them four times and then the seam by the zipper ripped about 2 inches. I will exchange for another pair because I love the fit so I'm hoping the defect was just with this particular pair.

I got (probably used) flawed items. Very disappointing. Then I learned Zappos is with Amazon now...everything makes sense

I was so disappointed by the thin and cheap looking leather. It looked like something out of a discount store in 1980. Not what I was expecting from Dr. Martens. Such a shame, because the style is stellar and I was really looking forward to my 14 eyelet boots. So sad!
