I have to wear custom orthotics, I can only wear flat heels, and I'm a size 5. So let's just say that my shoe options are somewhat limited. Since I can no longer wear my beloved flip flops, I was looking for a light weight shoe that I can run around town in during warmer weather that is NOT a sneaker. I decided some casual maryjanes were the way to go. After trying several pairs I found that thanks to my oh so hip orthotics my foot slipped right out of most of them, despite the maryjane strap that I was hoping would hold my foot in. What I really wanted were the Ecco Biom Lite MJs, but a euro size 36 is NOT a size 5, I don't care how many shoe sales guys try to convince me otherwise. I finally stumbled on these mjs from Merrell. Perhaps due to the diagonal strap of these puppies, they actually manage to stay on my feet really well, although there is some minor slipping in the heel. They are also pretty comfortable. The sole is fantastic and seems like it will have a good amount of grip once rainy weather sets in. I can definitely manage to get away with wearing these to work as well, as they are a little less casual than other options. The leather is quite thick though so these are warmer than I was hoping for a summer shoe. Will definitely transition through early fall at least. Now for the negatives, which can best be summed up by a question a friend asked me the other day: "Cute shoes, are they Keens?" Sorry Keen aficionados, but I am not a fan. Like Keens, these mjs are wide. I don't rock narrow width but I have a slender foot. On me, these fit like I imagine a wide width might. They are especially wide in the toe box, like Keens, so they have that "I've sacrificed fashion for comfort" look that I struggle to avoid. Overall, they were keepers. But I'm still searching for the elusive comfort shoe that does not look like a comfort shoe. Some of us with foot issues are not yet in our 80's and need shoes that are appropriate for the office and not just foraging in the forest for mushrooms. Also, Merrell, please stop using pigskin liners in your shoes! Cow leather is bad enough. Thankfully this pair doesn't, but many others do.

I normally am wearing a Keen shoe for support but needed/wanted something with more style. Zappos suggested this shoe, after reading reviews, I thought there was a chance I could be comfortable in it. Obviously it was cute and about the same the price I would spend on a Keen. I first tried the dark brown but it is so dark that it's nearly black. I already have a black Keen Mary Jane, so I returned it for a light brown. Love! Wore it all day with no hint of discomfort. It seems to have stretched out a bit so I tightened the strap. Which is a crazy thing to do since I have a high instep. But the way the strap is laid diagonally, makes it work for me. Very satisfied with the shoe and also Zappos website for suggesting it. I much prefer to buy based on reviews so thanks every one!

I have very old Clarks Privo shoes, no longer available. Seeking a replacement. These Merrells are beautiful but will not accommodate my bunions and hammer toes. Need a comfy shoe with a large toe space, any suggestions?

Love this shoe. Looks appropriate with a skirt at work, and I could walk anywhere. I have wide feet and the medium fit well (felt like a wide). Shoe stays put when walking. Nice padding at back so no rubs.

These became my "winter shoes" as soon as I put them on. They are comfortable and stylish. The only change I made was taking the removable insoles out and substituting some athletic ones with better arch and heel support. The diagonal strap does not irritate my foot like some with a straight strap across the instep do. I just like these shoes.

Oh no! I am a 20 year fan of Merrell shoes, starting with a pair of hiking boots long long ago. Then when they branched into daily wear shoes some years back, I slipped right into them and continued to enjoy the great fit (for my feet) and wonderful comfort no matter how many miles I logged on my job. I have worn (out) at least 9-10 pairs of Mary Jane types. They are comfortable right out of the box. They lasted through two years of almost daily wear. I diverted to Keens or Olukai or whatever, now and then but always came back to Merrell. Sadly, I guess the love affair is over. This pair of shoes, albeit kind of pretty, is really painful! The leather is really stiff and I had multiple rub spots within five minutes. There is a funny upward tilt to the forefoot which shortens the length and makes my toes hit the end in what has always been my perfect size 6½. I took them off after two minutes as I did not want to get holes in my footskin, and they were just painful. I have no interest in trying a larger size due to the stiffness of the leather...

These are great. I'd tried shoes with more support but they all seemed too massive, more shoe than I could deal with. (Thank you, Zappos, for putting up with multiple returns.) These Merrells are simple, light in weight, and I think they're really pretty. They're also very comfortable, though I might experiment with inserts for a bit more arch support. Also, I LOVE that they don't have a shred of velcro. It's a real buckle! And, since the strap is set diagonally, I don't need to undo it to put them on or take them off. I'm keeping them!

These shoes are pretty awesome. They have all the elements of a more outdoor-oriented shoe, but in all black they are great for work and travel. I bought them for my upcoming trip to Italy since I'm taking all black mix-and-match pieces. Only downfall is the footbed support isn't anything to write home about. Totally comfy and fine, but if you are worried about arches, I'd stick an insert in - that's what I did.

These are extremely comfy and nice enough to wear as my dressy shoes. The diagonal strap really is better looking than the usual Mary Jane style, and it won over my husband who has not liked any of the previous shoes. I wear a 10 normally, and by going only half a size larger, it was big enough to wear with socks, which is great in my climate. I also got some nubuck waterproofing to put on them, which was easy and worked well without discoloring them. For me, this price is a lot; if they were cheaper I would buy another pair in a 10 to wear in the summer for dress wear.

These did not fit me but they are gorgeous shoes. These are too narrow for my feet and they are not offered any wider. In addition, the design causes my feet to pronate even with the arch of the foot bed. I find this true with other Merrells except for my Merrell hiking boots. The angled strap and pretty toe box made me at least try this design.

Great looking shoes. I've been wearing them for two months and they're really stretched out. Is anybody else having this problem?

I ordered this in a size 9, which is my usual size, but exchanged it for a 9.5 because my big toe was hitting the top of the shoe. It's a good walking shoe that maintains some style. However, it rubs on my left foot, below the outside of my ankle. I'm waiting for the blister to heal before trying them again.

They are okay. I have worn them walking around a fair amount. They seem to rub the top of my foot sometimes but no blister. I was hoping they might be as comfortable as my Merrell hiking boot and sandals -- they are not that comfortable. But they have their place.

These shoes are very cute but run a 1/2 size big on me ( I wear s standard 11 in Nike, clarks and naturalizer). There was a terrible, terrible squeak in one of the heels, I had to put baby powder between the liner insert and the bed of the shoe/ the squeak is 60% gone after multiple applications of powder through out the week. Overall I think the shoes were over priced consider the large fit and annoying squeak.

I really like the look of these shoes; however, the back of my heels have blisters. I ordered a pair in black and a pair in brown. On one of the pairs, the "bunion" area is so stiff that it's painful. I put some moleskin in to help it out, but haven't healed yet to try it out. For now I'm making sure to have band-aids on hand for my heels until I can toughen up enough to hopefully wear them without.

I'm disappointed in the current Merrell shoes. I wore a couple of pair of Merrells on two European trips and they were my go-to shoes at home. They're worn out and need to be replaced but I will be replacing them with another brand. The arch support isn't as good and the materials feel cheaper. Improve your quality, Merrell!

These were comfortable and functional and fit my daughter's school uniform requirements. However, after wearing them 3 times a week without socks for 4 months, they STINK worse than any shoe we have ever owned, except for one other pair of Merrell's. The description states "Breathable mesh lining features M SELECT FRESH technology to help stop odors." The FRESH Technology failed. My 3 kids and husband all wear Merrell's for work and school. We generally love them, but this odor problem is disappointing. I wish I had known that socks would be necessary.

These were comfortable from the first! Unfortunately, there is no discernible arch support. I happened to have a pair of molded arch supports already that I could slip in, and they are a big help. Also, I have a bony foot. If it weren't for my toes spreading a bit, I'd get narrow shoes. I need medium to fit the toe area. So, these shoes are loose, and at some point I'll need another hole punched in the strap to help them fit a little more securely. But I can be in them all day, and my feet don't hurt, my legs don't ache. A springier sole would be nice, but, I would buy them again.

After ordering and returning several pair of shoes due to not fitting this pair is perfect. I am either an 8 or 8 1/2 M depending on the shoe. I have a bunion and need extra room in the toe area. This shoe fits perfect in an 8 1/2 M. Thanks zappos for free shipping and returns until I finally found a shoe that fits!

I didn't want to return this shoe but, unlike Keens, I would have needed a wide width (which it did not come in). The toe box is pretty short, too, but the next size would have been too long. So disappointed.

Really nice looking shoes, got lot of compliments on them. They do have a break in period.

The fit was perfect, and I could wear them right out of the box. My regular size is 7.5 and that was perfect. I like the fact that they are dressy, yet comfortable enough for walking across campus. Also like that I can wear them without socks! Usually flats and Mary Jane styles slip on me. I think the angle of the strap has prevented that from happening. I would definitely buy these again!

Looks nice very large for the size.

These are very cute, and the angled strap adds a bit of style, but unfortunately they cut right across the bunion and have to go back. They are light weight so would be good for traveling.
