I am a fairly solid size 7, although I do occasionally have to get a 6.5 in some shoes. That was the case with the Merrell Veranda. I originally ordered the 7 and my feet were swimming - at least a half inch too long on each. The width was fine, however, so I was torn on whether to order down a size or get inserts. Because the back of the inside of the shoe has some nice padding on it, I didn't think inserts would work very well. I reasoned that since the shoes are leather, they would probably stretch out with wear so a 6.5 would be the better option. I exchanged them and overall I'd say I'm probably about 80% satisfied. The 6.5 is a little short, and I also notice that the toe bed is a little shallow, so my toes are somewhat squished from the front and the top. I haven't had them long enough to know whether they will stretch out, but I'm still hopeful. What I am surprised and a little sad about is that the angle of the heel is not very comfortable. Everyone's foot is different, so finding that sweet spot of the angle of elevation from the front of the shoe to the back is really a case by case assessment. I am a teacher and was looking for a low heel that would be a little dressier than flats (and to wear with those pants that are just too long when you wear flats). The heel height is great, the insole is amazing for a heel, very cushy and excellent arch support. But for me, with my weird feet, the angle is a little tiresome. Maybe it's because they're slightly too small still, but by the end of the day the balls of my feet and the biggest joint of my toes (where they connect to the rest of my foot) are killing me. I'd say it's well worth giving them a try, but consider wearing them around your house for a few hours when you'll be on your feet before pulling the trigger on them for good.

This is a true 'walking' shoe, comfortable and stylish. I'd been looking for an 'easy' shoe that could go from walking/touring all day to a nice dinner. These are those kind of shoes. And my daughter liked them (which is unusual as she is very picky and likes the most modern trends). I am a true size 11, and these fit right out of the box.

I am on my feet all day (teacher) and these shoes are PERFECT. They are comfortable, they have a soft, rubber sole, they are light and the small heel looks great. However, you will need to use your inserts if you have any as they don't have much arch support. I got a pair of black ones, too.

Complete comfort in dressy shoe. Looks like nice short heel, feels like walking on a small mattress. Sole feels like it is solid rubber and grips floors with nice treads. Go to shoe for comfort.

Very comfy shoes! A great shoe to wear if you need to wear something dressy for work, yet have to do a lot walking in not-so-great weather. The sturdy rubber soles will be appreciated during our icy, slippery Northeastern winter too! I have narrow heels so I did have to buy a pair of Dr Scholl's heel inserts.

Very happy! Wear these for over 10 hours a day at work at the hospital and with footless compression stockings, I never have any achy feet nor legs. Would buy again. They are cute too!

Great basic and very comfortable shoe! I was looking for something a bit beyond a ballerina flat. Not a pump, loafer or clog. These are kinda in between all of those! The heel is low enough to be super comfortable and walk all day on cobblestones and uneven ground. Great with a skirt, jeans, ankle pants and just about anything. They're a great Europe shoe! I tend to wear a 10 in nearly everything and the 9.5 fit perfect as I don't plan on wearing socks.

So comfortable and stylish!!! I love these shoes! I got them in both brown and black in a size 7 which is what I always wear in this brand. They fit great. I wear 7.5 in some other brands of shoes. My husband and many other people commented on how great they look. No need to break these in.

I was looking for a pair of shoes that would be comfortable enough to wear while on my feet all day, but that also didn't look totally matronly. These are still a little matronly - they look more like tapered platforms than real heels - but they're still fairly cute. My main problem with them was their size. I am generally a true size 7, but the 7 was very long on me. I debated about putting in a heel pad, which may have been a better way to go, but I ended up exchanging them for a 6.5 because they were also a little wide to begin with. they are really comfortable in all other respects - great arch support, no rubbing spots, but the 6.5 has been just ever so slightly too short. Not short enough that I realized it right away, but short enough that after wearing them for a day they my big toes were sore. It really undermines what should be a very comfortable shoe - if you find them too long perhaps try a removable heel pad before you exchange them for a shorter size.

I bought the 38, which is my usual size, and it was quite tight. I have a wide foot. I'm going to try the 39.

Very comfortable. I tend to find almost any heel too much if I am walking but these shoes were like flats for several days of sightseeing and looked GREAT too

Love these shows! perfect for on the go or entertaining at home! My only issue was that there was animal hair inside the shoes when I received them.

Comfy and flattering for wide forefoot

This is an attractive and very comfortable shoe. I wish it came in other colors, it is just that good. I am on my feet all day so a comfortable shoe is a must, the attractiveness of it is a bonus! Truth be told, getting out of my car dressed and ready for work last Monday, upon standing up I had a mini panic attack and thought for a moment that I was still wearing my slippers! I looked down at my feet with great relief and then sheer joy, I had these shoes on my feet!

The challenge these days is to find a comfortable stylish walking shoe. Rubber soles are best for long distance. A defined heel is easier to walk in than a platform. The design of any shoe needs to cover the first metatarsal to prevent bunions. This shoe works for me: plenty of toe space and the heel is the perfect height. Suggestions: design this in suede, the black leather is too shiny.

Love these shoes. I typically wear a 10, but most of my Merrells have been 9.5, which is what I bought. They fit perfectly. These shoes are casual enough for jeans but dressy enough for work. I even received compliments on them. I would recommend these shoes for anyone looking for a simple yet classy look.

I love these shoes! I am a teacher and I use public transportation and these shoes get me through a work day with grace and comfort. These are the only heels that I have found that do not cause me back or foot pain. And they have a subtle flair, not trendy, but stylish in their own way. I hope Merrell keeps making these because I plan on buying them again and again.

So sad. Very comfortable and fit is perfect. Only problem is the design of the instep hits the wrong area and cuts into my feet. Really didn't want to return this shoe but had no choice. Ugh.

I spend 12-14 hours on my feet every day. Wearing heels is not an option. These shoes are the answer to heels. There was almost no breaking in period. They felt great from the start. I now have two pairs of them and may consider buying another pair.

Great fit! I use them for work and I on my feet all day in comfort! They run a little bigger than my other casuals but that makes them more user friendly! And the non-slip soles are awesome!

I wear 9 to 9.5M, read reviews, ordered 9.5M Black and they fit perfect in width and length. The shoe is flexible and comfortable (have only worn in the house). Bought them for a trip to Europe where I expect to do a lot of walking and wanted time to break them in. I have a high arch and at times the toe box is too low but my toes are fine and it's a leather shoe. My right foot on the outside right foot of the toe box area hits a bit lower in height (footbed to top of leather), it's not uncomfortable but will break in a bit for more give so the top of my foot that meats the top of the shoe in front won't bother me. Otherwise a good fit, good support, cute shoe but sole is a little chunky for traction. I would say style is 4 as it is a casual ballet like heeled shoe.

Very happy with these shoes. I was looking for a comfy high heel for work and this is perfect. I'm usually a size 7.5-8 but took a 7 in these. Wide toe box and just enough heel. I also bought them in black but they're not nearly as stylish as the brown ones.
