I am a New Yorker who walks about 1 to 2 miles a day to and from work. I bought these boots to handle the heavy snow days. They are really warm and have a very thick bottom. You won't be able to bend the arch of your foot with them on making stairs a bit more tricky. They are made for walking through lots of snow and don't really stop you slipping on ice...not that really any shoes do. I am 5' 9" and 125lbs with skinny calves and these shoes are perfect for me because I can tighten the laces and get them off and on easily using the zipper on the side.

I tried several winter boots, but this was the first one I had seen, and also the most expensive. Finally, after I decided against all those other pairs, I decided to get these. Boy, am I ever glad I did. They are so comfortable. The description says they only have 100g Thinsulate, but the inside of the boot says 200g. They are warm. I really like the fact that they have laces and a zipper, so if you're camping and going in and out of the tent or going in and out of the house, all you have to do is unzip them instead of undoing all the lacing. As the other reviews have said, the tongue is only gusseted to the ankle, so if you're going to be in deep snow for a long time then you might want to reconsider on these. However, for what I'm wanting them for, they are perfect. Not clunky at all, like some Vasques and Hi-Tecs I tried, but they'll serve their purpose. They're really cool-looking too. I'm going to be doing a lot in these boots. I was wanting something that I could wear hiking and camping, in the rain and the snow, and in the country and in town. Finally I have found a versatile boot that I think will last for a long time. I do have a comment about the sizing - I normally wear an 8 1/2, an 8 in some shoes including Ariats, and I ordered an 8 1/2 in these. I was unsure of the fit, so I ordered a 9 as well, but the 8 1/2 was better than the 9. The nine rubbed my ankles terribly. I'd say, order your normal size or a half size up.

These boots may say they are waterproof, but they aren't (at least the pair I received isn't). I was walking around on Monday in some low snow and slush and it felt like my socks were getting damp. I took off the boot and my socks were in fact damp. There are also small "slits" in the upper that look like design elements were it feels like snow can easily get in. I'm quite frustrated since the boot was advertised as "waterproof". It fits really well and I found it pretty comfortable to walk around in. They aren't as clunky as my Sorels.

I have a very hard to fit leg. I have purchased wide calf boots in the past, only to return them because they did not get wide enough low enough on the leg. This boot is fully customizable. The laces in the front can be adjusted to your specific leg shape. I never need to use the zipper on the side -- I just pull them on and off. We have had a blizzard here and the boots have provided warmth and traction. I recommend these boots!

This boot has a full side zip and a lace up system -- so first you zip in, then you adjust the laces. That's pretty awesome for those of us whose calf size changes (tucked in pants vs. tights). And talk about getting them off in a snap -- no need to unlace! I am a true 8 1/2 and my toe went almost to the top -- if you wear a really thick sock, I'd get a half size up, but if you wear tights to a medium thick sock or just tuck in regular jeans, your true size is probably right. I went and slogged through today's sleet and snow mush in them and they're definitely waterproof. Not super stylin' but if you want that, get La Canadienne (the world's most stylish waterproof boots). I wanted casual snow boots that are super easy on and off but aren't clunky -- these fit the bill really well.

These boots are so cute! I sent them back because I think I needed to order a 1/2 size larger. I haven't ordered them in the larger size for 1 major reason: the tongue is not gusseted. I'm afraid that will just give snow an opportunity to get in.

I wanted to love these, but I ordered a size 10 - which I wear in other boots with a thick sock - and I could barely fit my foot in the base with a thin sock. Even when I unlaced the front I could not zip up the boot. I am not a skinny woman, but this boot didn't even come close. So sad, they look to be very warm and serviceable.

Overall these boots are great and I wanted to keep them for the winter. I love that they lace up and can be adjusted for best fit and then you can use the zipper to get in and out quickly. Unfortunately they ended up being too stiff in the ankle and flaring up an old knee injury I had when trying to walk in them. They do run about a half to whole size too small for the foot. Zappos customer service was great in sending an exchange quickly to help with sizing.

After ordering and try different boots I found these. They are just what I wanted, good looking and warm at the same time. They have been very good on the ice and I haven't slipped once, and keeping my toes toasty when I'm out in below zero weather is great. I did find that they seem to run about half a size small.

Finally! After much searching, I think I found my boots. Lightweight, warm, and comfortable. They're true to size, just a tad on the small side, no thick socks needed. I've tried several Sorrels (too heavy), JBU Etna, Crocs AllCast II Luxe, Sperry Salt-water Sela, and Merrell Murren Tall, Merrell Sylva Tall. Of all these boots, the Polarand Rove Peak feels and looks the best.

I LOVE these boots! So stylish, warm and comfortable. I needed something I could do some light walks in and still be warm. The zipper on the side takes a few wears to break them in so it glides easier but I have been very pleased with this boot. Very comfortable, warm and durable!

These boots are very warm! I wanted winter boots that would allow me to hike and snowshoe and these fit the bill as they have decent traction and support, although they may keep my feet too warm for a day that is only mildly cool. You can lace the boots up to tighten around the ankles, which I like as I have skinny calves and have trouble finding boots that are not huge on my calves. For snow boots, they are fairly attractive and don't feel as bulky as traditional snow boots.

This is the first time in a lifetime of buying boots that I got a boot I could not zip more than halfway up, so narrow was it over my calf. Merrell, you're getting ridiculous in your manufacture, from no arch support whatever to this!

They fit true to size. I wore them in a foot of snow and my feet stayed dry and warm. I like the side zip plus the laces. I adjusted the laces depending on if I was wearing leggings vs jeans.

I loved these boots. I got them last year thinking that there would be a lot of snow. We went almost the whole winter and finally before we hit spring I got to wear my boots and I loved them. They were so comfortable. Great buy.

I loved these boots. They were by far my favorite winter boots ever. I wore them for a while, but I must have gotten a defective pair, because they were wet on the inside after wearing out in the snow for a few hours. Now I wish that I would have exchanged them for the same pair, but I did not and now I have a different pair of snow boots. Zappos, as always, was awesome with the return process, and I was fully refunded. I love working with Zappos and I do not really buy shoes anywhere else. They were very warm, very comfortable, and very cute. I hated sending them back, and hopefully someday I can get them again.

I use these for my casual Friday rain boots and I could not be more pleased. Very comfortable and warm. If you like wearing thick socks, definitely order a half size up. I ordered my usual 9½ size and wear with normal (thin) socks. I also love that you can adjust the fit. I have skinny calves and hate having the gap at the top that I get with most boots. I can snug these right up and can wear with or without jeans tucked in.

Overall cute, comfortable boots. They seem like they would be very warm and sturdy, but without that stiff, winter boot feel. I'm only returning them because they push on my ankle in the wrong spot and I've had recent ankle surgery.

I love these boots. They are my go to boot. I wanted something athletic and warm looking and these fit the bill. The zip on the side makes them very easy to get into without any hassle. They are very warm and comfortable and were so right out of the box. I am a trainer and even wear them to the gym to train on cold mornings. They are nice and fitted in the calves.

These boots are gorgeous, you know, for snow boots. I love them but the shaft is too narrow and so it looked silly without enough overlap in the lace up area. (I have large calves.) So sad to send them back. But I love Merrell and I love Zappos! On to the next boot.

These are great! Super warm (even with the freezing weather we had this winter) and supportive (I have a bad ankle that sprains often and this supported it well) but still stylish!

Awesome shoes- built like a tank! Served me really well this nasty winter in NYC. Merrells run small for me and I ordered 1.5 size up. I knew to do that bec my Merrell hiking boots had to be 8.5 when u normally wear 7. I wear this with sole support & thick hiking socks. So comfortable! I am not the fittest person in the world so for me walking long stretches in these or going hiking would tire my legs easily because they are slightly heavy. But for the function they serve it feels remarkably light. My feet felt invincible like they were wearing a pair of tanks!

Incredibly comfortable foot-bed! Also very warm with excellent ice gripping soles! Totally sold on Merrell's; this is my 5th pair of their boots, but these are among my favorites.

Great boots, very comfortable and warm. Well made too. Just a little too hot to wear all day inside, but a great outdoor shoe. I haven't had any trouble with snow getting in where the gusset ends.
