These are my 3rd pair of these shoes. I love them. I walk a ton in the city--both on sidewalks and in the parks. These shoes are perfect, weather-resistant shoes for hikes all around town in all of the nasty weather Chicago has to offer. I have a pair of the same shoes in a higher version as well for more wintry weather. My only complaint is the strange, dingy colors that they are offered in. Please note that the grey shoes with the rust colored detailing is described as grey, but is more of a green.

UPS driver. Been wearing them for a year now. Still feel good and look good. 1 complaint is they are pretty slippery on wet smooth pavement.

The increased weight reported by others was not a noticeable factor. The stiffness was as reported and has its pluses and minuses. I found these were more slippery than I had anticipated on wet urban sidewalks. Great styling- 2 weeks in Europe wearing jeans and casual slacks. The water proofing seemed to work well. Best fit was one half size greater than usual.

I went through 3 pairs of these in the Rocky Mountains. Had to upgrade to something more durable that would last longer. Great fitting leather hiker just wish the seams would last longer. Fits wide feet just fine.

I purchased these in a 12 WIDE, and have been wearing them multiple times a week at work for over 3 months. They are too narrow in the toe box, and I was hoping they would "break-in", but no luck. I'm about to donate them after only 3 months of wearing due to the poor fit. I can wear Medium Width in most shoes, but even these WIDES are too narrow for my foot. Very disappointed in how they faded as well. I only use a suede brush to clean them, and they simply look "worn out", even though I have never taken them "off road". Would never recommend these, nor would I ever buy again, and I have a pair of Lowa Tibet's that I love. This one simply isn't for me.

Bulky fit doesn't allow much natural foot movement. Sole is moderately stiff. Materials and construction seem fairly good but not worthy of this slightly higher price-point.

I love these shoes! I can't praise them highly enough. They are my first Lowas and were quite expensive compared to shoes I have bought in the past, but I felt confident trying them with Zappos' great return policies. They are more than worth the $. I bought them for a trip to Germany where I will be doing a lot of hiking. My current hiking boots that I got from REI are very slippery on wet surfaces, heavy, and they hurt my calves when I wear them. I wanted a waterproof shoe that was comfortable, would pack into a suitcase better than my giant boots, could handle a variety of surfaces on my trip. were attractive and would match with most outfits, and could handle all the muddy, wet surfaces that I walk my dogs on here in the Northwest. Usually, the first thing I have to do when trying on new shoes is remove the inserts and put in some expensive insoles (because if I don't, my feet, knees, and lower back will be in pain). I put these on and they were immediately comfortable. I thought I'd wait to see if they needed insoles, so I wore them around the house and forgot I was wearing them because they were so comfortable. I never did need to add insoles after a lot of walking on different surfaces (~$60) like I normally do, so that means that they were a better value than most other shoes I buy. Also, my feet feel more stable in these shoes. I have a tendency to turn my ankles on uneven surfaces (which is why I had hiking boots before), but my footing feels much more secure now even without ankle support and insoles. After wearing them around the house, I took the dogs for a walk. They were very comfortable and my feet felt very protected from stubbing my toes like I normally do in my athletic shoes on the uneven, leaf-covered sidewalks at night. I also feel like I walk faster and more energetically in them! My footing is more stable and my stride is longer. The next day, I took them to a stable and walked around the farm, then took them for a long hike and then a walk on the beach (including walking through some of the little streams flowing down to the Pacific Ocean). They did great with all those terrains...my feet were warm and dry and they didn't hurt at all like they normally would have after all that walking (probably about 4 hours total on a variety of surfaces). I also was able to drive for hours in them without them being painful like my hiking boots would have been. The next day, I took them for a walk in the Oregon rain on a paved path with big puddles everywhere and again, they kept my feet warm and dry! I love these shoes! They are so comfortable and protective. I am sold on Lowas and will be buying them from now on. I also wanted to mention a couple of other things from reading the reviews on these and other shoes. These weren't as highly rated as some other waterproof hikers, but I went with these because they were not ugly like those other ones. I like the plain style that goes well with all my clothes. Also, someone mentioned the smell of them, but I read the care instructions and it says to remove the inserts and loosen them to let them breathe after wearing them. I am wondering if the other person was doing that. So far, I'm not having issues with smell and I have been following those instructions, but I haven't had them long yet.

For several years I have hiked in nothing but Lowa. My last Renegades (II's) are still solid in the uppers but the sole is worn through after 18 months. I am trialing these (different sole) to see if they are up to previous high standards.

many customer reviews said the soles were slippery on wet surfaces. I own the original renegade in high with the vibram soles and they are not slippery. so I compared the two on my tile floor and found that the renegade III are indeed very slippery so I will return them

I do everything in these shoes -- walk, hike, bike, garden, shop work -- and expected them to be at least as durable as their precursor, the Renegade II. These shoes only lasted eight months versus the Renegade II's lasting 15+ months. They are nowhere near as durable. The stitching failed before the soles did. They are also not as comfortable; they tend to disproportionately pinch the front of my foot.

I really wanted to like the shoes. They looked good and sturdy. They were sturdy although it does seem the footbed is an afterthought. I live in Bozeman MT where they make Oboz shoes which I think don't look great but they have really high quality footbeds similar to the ones you would pay 25-50 bucks more for at a store. Anyway, I was sold on the gore tex lining as this shoe was for a dual purpose hiking and walking around cities in Spain. I started to develop metatarsalgia on the footpad of my right foot. I kept thinking it would work itself out (like a knot in the back) but it just got worse. Finally, after a long hike in Glacier Montana, I gave up. I have been hiking in some lightweight hikers ever since and have no pain. This could just be a combination of my foot anatomy and the shoe. I can't predict if anyone else would have this problem. One last thing, I felt the shoes walked more like a boot than a shoe. I had very poor feel for the trail while walking on these. When I walk and hike in sneakers I feel like I have much better sense of the contours of the trail. If you like a hiking shoe that feels like it is nearing the stiffness of a boot you may like this. I was hopeful that the sturdy sole would last a long time but my foot can't take it. I don't normally spend $200 for a shoe for these purposes so it was a big disappointment.

Warning: the Renegade III does Not have the Vibram sole. A Huge difference! These are super slippery on wet anything so be warned. I fell down a flight of wet stairs wearing these (feet went right out from under me) and summarily threw these shoes away. Get the other ones. Way better. I love the other Renegades. Hope that helps. Thanks.
