Just got my first pair of Hoka's yesterday and took them out for a break in 4 miler. I'm a novice runner - 15-20 miles a week. I'm 5'7", 159lbs and quickly approaching 4-0. I've been suffering from a couple of issues - mainly from my lower back impacting my sciatica and decided to try Hokas as a way to relieve some of the impact stress from daily road running. The first run felt great. When people say Hokas are like running on a cloud I can understand where they're coming from - although I though it felt more like marshmallows. They're lightweight - not as light as some minimalist shoes out there but certainly on par with a lot of other popular shoes. The amount of foam leads you to believe they're going to be heavier than they really are - but there's not much to the upper to weigh them down. I was aware of some loss of road feel but I think that's a tradeoff from the cushioning. I did notice a bit of side to side "squishiness" kind of like driving on under inflated tires, but they didn't feel unstable at all. I've read other reviews they say they "want" to be ran downhill. I thought it was a strange comment until I actually tried - and they are right. You can fly down hill - and that's what it feels like...flying! The fit it pretty good. I ordered my normal size and they fit about right - however if you have wide feet I would imagine they might be a little tight. I've heard different things about Hoka toe boxes (too wide, too narrow) and I'd have to say these shoes are on the more narrow side of what I'm used too. Not uncomfortably so, but worth considering. Only time will tell if they can help my back feel better than before but overall I'd give them an initial thumbs up.

If you're looking for a max cushioned shoe then this is it. It's for neutral runners, runners who have a normal or medium arch and who don't overpronate (your foot does not excessively roll from the outside to the inside edge as you land and go through each "step" as you run). They are light and comfortable. One star taken away for the removable insoles. The more cushioned set slide back inside the shoe during use for me. Luckily there is a 2nd, more minimalist pair that so far have been stable. Highly recommend that Hoka get this fixed as I'm not the only reviewer to experience this, but even so, a super light shoe that'll allow you to run many miles in great comfort.

This is my first pair of Hoka, and I might be converted from being on Brooks shoes for years. The best: cushioning The good: light weight The so-so: because it's light, it feels like I'm just wearing socks. It's great when on paved road, but not so good on trails. The bad: the edge of tongue of the shoe can be sharp, it cut me during a long run. Simple solution is to not wear "no show" socks. I am an underpronate runner, 40-50 miles per week with a 22 bmi.

Very soft shoe, but way too narrow for my toes. If you have a wider foot, I definitely recommend that you look at some other brand.

Really had high hopes but its too narrow in the forefoot which is what causes me the most pain so I'm returning them. I went up a half size and might consider going up another half to get the width I need. Otherwise amazing and light and a must try.

These shoes feel great, and that is coming from a minimalist shoe runner for the past year. I thought they would feel clunky, but they are soft, solid and I still feel fast when they are on my feet. The only downside is the width. My left foot is a bit wider than my right, and the toe box is slightly cramped. If they had a selection of widths, these would be overall winners!

Shoes are great for your knees but you need and insert and alot of socks because the color runs when you sweat. Contacted Hoka's customer service with pictures and their attitude stunk. "ship your shoes to us and if we determine it is our fault we will replace them" where do you get blue color on a pair of white athletic socks that just came out of a run in blue Hoka shoes!! Maybe Zappos will cut $30 off the price so you can buy a dozen pair of socks. I have now had 20 runs in he shoes and still get alot of blue dye on my socks.

Unfortunately, despite all the positive reviews, they did not work for me. They are too squishy, don't support my feet, and caused a lot of pain when I walked or ran.

I have to admit that I did not run in these. At first I thought they looked great and intriguing. When I tried to stand up from the chair after lacing them, I lost my balance backwards and then they were so squishy I was lucky to recoup. Trying to remain open minded, I trotted up and down the hallway a bit, and my response was "absurd." Imagine the giant marshmallow man from "Ghostbusters" deciding to be a runner and you will get the picture. Apparently many people rave about these. I cannot imagine that anyone who is somewhat sure-footed and used to using their feet in a natural way could. I suspect running on something so thick and soft is likely to cause some unexpected consequences. Each to his or her own. Just wanted to give a perspective that may help someone else.
