I purchased AE Carlyle directly from AE. The first pair had defective leather top, the same happened also for the replacement pair. Although the 2nd replacement (3rd pair) still had leather defects, I selected to keep it as the defects not so visible and I was tired of the repeated procedure of taking the shoes back to the store and waiting to pick up the replacement after several weeks. As my 6-7 years old AE shoes are still in great shape, I have not put this new pair to use for several months. Last weekend I attended a party wearing my new pair of Carlyle. After walking in New York City for less than an hour (mainly across the central park twice), I found the tip of the sole had been worn down for about 10%. Then I checked my 6-7 year old pair of AE shoes and the whole sole has not been worn down by 2% in any place. Ironically I tried to post this review at AE website on the webpage for this particular shoes. However AE selected to ignore my review and did not post it. They just don't like bad reviews of their products. Allen Edmonds was sold in 2006, then sold again in 2013. No wonder its quality has been in steady decline.

Excellent black tie choice. The patent leather looks like a low-grade mirror polish - very nice. Break in period was 2 wears, which is always a concern with patent leather. Very comfortable. I love the black detailing on the soles and inside the shoe.

This pair is for my daughter's wedding, and as always, it's a perfect fit with no break in period needed. This is my 20th pair of Allen Edmonds. Some are 40 years old and have been refurbished, and are still in service. Thank you for retaining your quality!

I bought a pair of AE Strands about ten years ago for special occasions, most comfortable dress shoes I've ever worn and they still look great today. I have small feet, 7.0D, and the lowest size the uniform store carries is 8.0D. After some severe foot pain from havibg to overly tighten those shoes, I finally had enough and went with a shoe i knew i could depend on to look great, feel great, and last for many many years. What a difference they make, with a subtle yet elegant profile that stands out in the sea of Bates. The brown pair I bought for work were so impressive that I bought an additional black pair with custom outsoles for wearing around town.

The Carlyle Plain-toe Oxford is no exception to the high quality I have come to expect from Allen Edmonds. These are beautifully designed an the for use perfect! I look forward to my next pair.

I'm impressed with the Carlyle I purchased. The 108 last is similar to the 65, but more pointed at the toe. What's interesting is the Marin monks I have -- another beautiful shoe -- are built on the same last as the Carlyle, though the toes there are blunted. I have some other pairs of plain toe shoes, which are a bit of gamble, as you don't always know where they will crease. Allen Edmonds shoes can also be a gamble in terms of construction, but these Carlyles were nicely built, with even and accurate stitching. Now, two things: 1) It would be nice to see the Carlyle in some other colors than black, chili, or walnut, such as navy and burgundy, and 2) Some more shoes in the 108 last would be nice, too, including the return of the Mora and Marin in a range of colors.

This is my second pair of Carlyle plain-toe oxfords. I also have a pair of the patent leathers for my tuxedo. I really like the simple clean look of the Carlyle. But what has impressed me most is how well they fit and how comfortable they are right out of the box. The insoles are a bit firm, but they do conform to your foot quickly. I found that I was able to walk the floor at a recent event with little or no discomfort even though the shoe was new out of the box. By the end of the day the shoes felt like I'd been wearing them for a year. They are true to size -- I measured on a Brannock device with my dress socks on, ordered the 9.5 as measured, and they fit perfectly.

It is wonderful to have a shoe that truly fits size 15. There are no spots that rub uncomfortably and they're plenty wide throughout the whole footbed.

I have to say Allen Edmonds are one of the best dress shoes I have ever own. Love the looks and quality. Definitely need to break into them for them to start feeling comfortable. Once you do that you will feel and look like million bucks. Highly recommend.
