Bought this to use as a layering piece on the mountain. But it's warm enough to use as a standalone jacket with a baselayer. I wore it stand-alone up to 6000m in -12 celsius + wind chill and it kept me warm until about 5890m. As a stand-alone product it's amazing and layered with a a jacket it is super super warm. Became my favourite piece of gear.

I've owned this for a few years now, finally got round to writing a review. I love this jacket! I use it mainly as a midlayer for skiing on really cold days, it works great beneath a shell, breathes decently for a jacket this warm and feels amazing to wear. Also doubles up really nicely as an outer layer for around the resort. I own a lightweight down jacket of a similar weight, and to me this actually feels warmer. My only minor negative is I do wish the hood could be secured away, it gets in the way under a ski shell, but sure if useful at other times.

I brought the Atom light jacket and thought it was wonderful. I then purchased the Atom AR hoodie and found it to be even better then the light. I live in N.E. so I've had the chance to wear it in different degrees of weather. It did not disappoint me. Well worth the money.

I bought this jacket with the intention of finding a warm mid layer jacket I could wear during my snowboarding trip in Colorado during December. I typically run a little colder than the average person and temperatures were around 10-20 Fahrenheit with lots of wind to give context. I paired the Atom AR with a breathable snowboarding jacket shell which provided great warmth and was breathable enough to keep things dry. I originally bought the Atom LT which is a wonderful jacket, however is does not provide the warmth and insulation that I was looking for in cold winter conditions. I was skeptical at first if a hoodie this lightweight could provide the warmth I was looking for, but the Atom AR has shown great warmth as a mid layer and can even work as a standalone mid layer in less frigid tempatures. I'm 5 foot 10, 150 pounds, average build, and the Atom AR in medium is a great fit for me. I highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a warm versatile midlayer or even stand alone jacket.

Bought as a midlayer companion to Fraser shell. Works great standalone also and even at below 0 temps it was working well. Good design overall with nice fit and features, bulk and weight are good considering performance temperature range.

I did not expect something so light to be so warm. It was in the the twenties today with a windchill of 11 and I never once felt uncomfortable. Arc'teryx trim fit is a little snug on me, but the standard fit for this jacket is great. Extremely comfortable materials and again I'm surprised by the warmth for something that doesn't have a lot of bulk. The only thing I might fault a little is that I wouldn't mind having larger hand pockets.

The Atom AR is the perfect synthetic piece for staying warm in cold conditions. While a bit bulkier that the LT, this jacket provides an exponential increase in warmth and only feels a bit bulkier. It works great as an outer layer yet still fits well under a shell for days at the ski resort or in the backcountry. While I love the packability of my Cerium LT for bikepacking where space is critical, I find the Atom AR to be as warm and probably more versatile for the variety of weather I experience in the colder months. As usual, Arcteryx nails the fit and the little details like the hood, sleeve cuffs and fit around the shoulder/necks. Highly recommend this to compliment a lighter fill synthetic or to balance the capabilities of a similar jacket with real down.

This jacket has been fantastic. Incredibly warm, low profile, and durable. I wore this jacket for 6 days straight while teaching a trad climbing course in Joshua Tree this winter. It held up very well to the sharp granite and thorn bushes all around the park. No visible signs of wear at all. I wouldn't necessarily climb in this jacket, but it's the perfect layer to throw on between climbs, belaying, or hanging around camp. I'll also throw this on after a cold surf session to warm up quick back at the car. In terms of fit, I am 5'8", 140lbs and wear a small. This still gives me plenty room to layer underneath but also fits perfectly without any other layers. I tried the medium but felt way too big on me. Overall, this is one of my favorite Arc pieces and has become my go-to jacket for all things cold weather. Highly recommend!

Atom my favorite jacket. Whether it's the SL or LT version, it's always perfect. This AR model has a heavier weight, so it is warmer and a more comfortable cut. Very nice and comfortable even in the city.

I purchased this jacket after having a very positive experience with my GAMMA LT shell, which I mainly used for hiking and climbing. Winter was coming and I needed something for the colder winter days of southern Spain (5degrees - 10degrees Celcius). This jacket arrived and I am now wearing it comfortably with a T-Shirt underneath, without even bearing a sweat. Quality, comfort and elegancy in one single perfect product. I cant wait until I can use this jacket in colder climates during the christmas holiday season.

Having lost a good bit of weight the last year, I needed to go down a size. I loved my older winter coat from Arc'teryx. This one fits like a glove and has done a good job keeping me warm on my long walks during this current uncharacteristic cold weather in Seattle. Looks spiffy as well!

I've had an Atom LT and Fission SV for the past ten years. I decided to get an Atom AR this winter. I'm not expecting it to be as warm as my Fission SV. It is super comfortable. I'm 5' 10", 180 lbs and the medium fits great. The black sapphire is a nice dark blue colour. I'm hoping when it gets colder this Atom AR underneath a Beta LT will keep me warm enough to replace the Fission SV in certain conditions. The neck of the Atom AR jacket when zipped up is certainly more structured than my ten year old Atom LT, and the face fabric feels like it could be more durable. I'll likely have to go back to my Fission when there's wind chills of -15C and lower. So far, I'm very pleased with the Atom AR.

Jacket is very warm. I have read a review that recommended the Atom AR if you were less active and the Atom LT if you planed to be more active. I chose the AR for use mainly as an all round jacket. It's very warm and fits great. i bought the XL size. I'm 6'1", 200lbs. my chest size is 45", arm length 35". the jacket doesnt restrict movement in any way and for once, i have a jacket with sleeves long enough for my arms. the overall fit of the jacket on my body is the same as whats shown on the product page for the gentleman modeling the red jacket.

I live in Portland, Oregon. Where it's always drizzling. This jacket can handle a little water and stay warm. I use this around the city. It's warmer and breathes less than the LT version. Making it good for hanging out and getting around, but not great for a high output activities.

Really doesn't get much better than this. Lightweight, nice amount of insulation while still being a thinner jacket. 10/10.

Traded-in my Atom LT for this piece because I needed more warmth. Best decision ever. Much warmer for not that much added weight. Still breathable and looks good

This is the third and final piece in the Atom series that I've purchased and it's my favorite. Incredibly warm when I'm static, but just that little tiny bit breathable so I don't overheat. I wouldn't do anything strenuous in this, but that's not what it's for. I also love how the face fabric on this is a little bit more durable than on the Atom LT. While I love the soft feel of the LT, I wouldn't mind if they used the AR fabric as well. Overall, worth every penny, just like the other Atoms.

Two years ago I was looking for a winter jacket to wear in Vancouver. I came across the Atom AR, which was above my price range but the salesman looked me in the eye, like he was sharing a secret and said "just buy it." I have since come to understand what he meant. The jacket is light but always just warm enough. Water resistant, squishable in a pack. It just feels right when I'm wearing it. I tell people it feels like it's from the future. I am a normal person, and not that into clothes. This is just an insanely well designed and well made garment and it is a pleasure to own.

I have worn this jacket as a top layer for temperatures down in -20c in low activity settings. The jacket is very warm and potentially is too warm as a midlayer. The Atom AR performs well in windy conditions as well. The fit isn't to much different from the atom LT (which is a good thing).
