These pants have been great for all of my winter pursuits! I love the through-the-hip zips, guard on the inside ankle, and lace hooks. When glissading, I've never worried about these pants ripping/tearing. The fit feels true to size and allows for my soft-shell pants to lay comfortably underneath. Thanks for another great piece of gear, Arc'teryx!

Overall these are a fantastic pair of pants, and I'm really glad that I went with them. They feel bomb proof! I love the adjustability of them and how the gusseted crotch makes such a difference when moving. The zippers going all the way down makes such a difference when you are wanting to take them off or put them on in the forest with super mucky boots on. The only things I would change about these pants is: 1) the waist is a bit sharp when bending over.. I'm hoping they will soften a bit with more wear. 2) They are not unreasonably baggy, but they could do to be a bit more slim in the calf area, it is borderline disproportionately big in comparison to the thigh area.

These have worked extremely well as an all-round piece, including a recent trip to backpack and climb around Patagonia for 3+ weeks. These are very durable for the weight, the full-length zip is great for quick and easy on/off in intermittant conditions, and they vent or breathe very well. The waist adjustment tabs stay out of the way for backpack hip belts and climbing harnesses. Unlike typical rain pants, these hold up to abrasion and the mock fly is awesome. I wear 33-30 pants and a medium regular was a perfect fit.

Love these pants! They are so easy to get in and out of even with crampons on because of the double full zip on the sides. I love the lace hook on the bottom, nice added feature. Like the rest of the Ascent collection they run a little on the small side, I'm usually between a small and and medium and I went with the medium and glad I did, they fit perfectly!

I used these pants for a 9 day expedition on Mount Elbrus north route. These pants stood up to anything the Russian weather gods could throw at it. They are very light to pack and easy to put on with the full leg zippers. With the right layering they can be used year round.

These worked exactly as I wanted, and we're a great piece to carry in the Bugaboos. Highly recommended.

I have worn these pants for mountain hikes, treks in the forest and all across Iceland. They are the perfect pants for protecting you against the rain and wind. They are easy to put on thanks to the full length zipper and are spacious enough to wear trekking pants underneath. They have quite a lot of sizing options both in the waste and around your ankles, which is good if you are short but a bit more curvy in your body style.

Got these as a present as I have been eyeing them forever. So glad I did. Took them for a 5 day trip in the UP of michigan and got dumped on the third day. Put these on as soon as I saw the rain coming across the lake and I'm sure glad I did. Paired up with the alpha FL they make an excellent backpacking team. I'm no ultra light back packer, so i'm sure theres lighter stuff out there, but I'm super happy with this setup. Very comfortable with a pack on and i cant believe how well they breathed! I did have the size zips open to vent with the rain was light, but even over top my hiking pants I didnt get particularly clammy or damp. I was honestly expecting to be steaming underneath, but was really impressed with these (and the alpha). GF has a pair also and she was also very impressed. Will definitely be brining these on the backpacking trips in the future!

-First of all, they run large. I ordered small with my waist 30" and they are still slightly roomy. Colours are limited. -Looks, very appealing and good athletic fit. -WOW, bird logo and word"gore-tex" are embroidered instead of painted ones, did Arc'teryx. com listen to me?

I think these are some of the lightest full zip pants on the market, if not the lightest (note: if Arcteryx can make them even lighter, that would be even better!). The waist hook system works really well: I was able to put these pants over other layers in super windy conditions, something that's usually not easy. I appreciate reinforcements in high wear areas. Great pants, recommend w/o any reservations.

They are pretty light, I think it's a good mix of weight and durability. Fit is perfect, maybe a little little baggy.

I'm living in Vancouver with probably the most dreary weather during the fall, winter and spring months. I always carry the Arcteryx alpha SL around with me just in case I forget my umbrella and get caught in a rainstorm. With these bottoms and an arcteryx rush jacket even under the most wet conditions I stay dry top to bottom. And I am honestly talking about torrential downpour. I'm about 6 feet tall 180lbs and the medium fits almost perfectly with me wearing a layer underneath (they are stretchy enough to fit over jeans or a normal baselayer) and bottoms fit around my boots perfectly without it being too tight/loose. (I also own the sabre pant which fits exceptionally large at the bottom) When I go for runs and really start building up sweat, these aren't exactly the most breathable fabric considering they are goretex, but in a very short period of time the moisture goes away, unlike normal sweat pants or jeans that basically just stay wet. Overall I'm extremely happy with this product and I'd even recommend it for skiing/snowboarding!

It is my great summer rain pants. It is so comfy that i forget it's there. I wore it in downpour, typhoon with signal no.8......, and it is bomdproof. I wear a S size alpha SL . The full length zippers are great. Zipping off a little bit, I can reach pocket of rampart short underneath to take wallet to pay the bill. It also packs small once the black cloud gone. Good product.

I spent quite a while looking for waterproof pants that are cut in a way that they are at the same time low volume and bulk without restricting movement. They are light and pack small enough to take on multipitches where they probably wont even be used. In the winter I use them for ice climbing when temps are close to 0 C. They are great to climb in, but the paclite gore of course doesn't stand a chance against tiny cuts from screws hanging from the harness. A size M long is perfect for me (182cm 74kg).

I love my Alpha SL pants. They are just perfect! Well made, great fit and bombproof. They are very light as made with Gore-Tex Paclite with 3 layer in steps. They just do what is expected of them. The waterproof zipped fly is a nice touch!

These pants are everything you need and nothing you don't. They are light and they work. I use them for rain protection on summer backpacking trips and day climbs. I pair these pants with the Alpha LT jacket and i stay dry for 22 oz's. what could possibly be better.

I've been using these trousers for a while now. They are extremely light but this does not compromise their waterproof or windproof properties. They pack away to next-to-nothing in your sack and you could almost forget you owned them until the rain comes. These are minimalist kit, so don't expect full length zips and a fly - you unzip the lower zips and pull them on. It might take a sexy wiggle or two before they come up to waist level - but when they do they are perfectly comfortable. They are light, comfortable and breathable enough to wear in their own right all day (over longjohns) if the weather turns wet, but also suitable to rush on for a brief shower.

I spend alot of time hiking in the western Washington cascades and for those who don't know it gets wet. During the rainy months here, from march to June, this is the pair of pants I start every hike in. I wear nothing but my shorts underneath. These pants have no insulation but none needed during these months. Like all arcteryx products, great material, great construction, etc. No gators needed either, has clasp on end of pant legs that connects to your boot laces.

I ruined my car on the first day of winter and have been riding my bike in the rain storms of California; with our drought I thought I'd be fine but then it flooded so I upgraded my rain gear. I just received these pants and unfortunately (or fortunately) the rain is on pause for a week. Still I tried them on and found that the legs are incredibly skinny. All these reviews say they run large and are baggy, one review even said they bought a small and still have room with a 30" waist, well I have a 30" waist and bought a medium knowing that I would have layers underneath these pants and I could barely get it zipped around my thigh. I am returning them for XL and hope they fit right because these pants seem like exactly what I've been looking for, except for not having pockets.

Let me start first by saying that these are excellent pants. They are durable, breathable, and break the wind beautifully. I wore these in 20 degree and 30mph wind conditions on Mt. Rainier and loved how they performed. I also appreciate the extra durable paneling near the inside ankle. I haven't gotten these pants with my crampon points yet but I'm happy to know that they will handle it when I do! With that said though, I have an issue with the disparity between inseam choices in the men's and women's editions. I am 5' 2" and was forced to buy the men's edition to select a 30" inseam. Please Arc'teryx - the ladies of the mountains are out here. We need choices too. The reduced star rating is as a result of this issue.

My girlfriend loves these pants. The waist adjustment with the lock is much more comfortable than wearing a belt or a full width drawstring. The instep reinforcements are genius from a durability standpoint but if you're only wearing shorts underneath, the weight of them feels a little funny. Waterproof performance is awesome, of course. The full length side zips give you a lot of options for venting that excess moisture when you're moving hard, which is always welcome.

While I appreciate the design and thought applied to your products it is a big disappointment to see the images online given they are rarely color accurate. Given the thought that went into the colors I'd appreciate it if more effort was placed on producing color accurate images. There is way too much contrast and like the color of this "cayenne" color pant it looks neon orange rather than cayenne like on the pant cuff closure detail and the watertight zipper detail. I believe those are pretty close to the real thing. This is only an example I could find many of these color inaccurate cases on the site. Your image guy does nice work making the site look cool with lots of interesting photos and using images with lots of contrast but I am sure all your customers would appreciate it if your products were their normal colors, I don't have too many places I can go to try this stuff on and see in person. Given your products are some of the industry's best I think putting some emphasis on the presentation of those products would be in everyone's best interests.

I had a long, detailed review that was rejected without explanation (nor a copy of what I submitted) so I dropped my rating a star and I will keep this one short. I am 5'2" and weigh 175# and am probably close to a fireplug in build with no potbelly (Eddie Bauer jackets seem to be cut for people with potbellies). I was surprised that the Large, Short actually fit me with shoes on without being too tight in the legs. I like the reinforcement material (N150p-X Paclite?) but not so much the lighter material. I wish a Beta or an AR was available for me to look at because the thicker material on the Alpha SL seems to be acceptably quiet and not shiny when I walk around. I didn't really notice the noise until I was in a quieter area but it bugged me. I like how the overall design doesn't scream "I just came off the mountain". I'm used to pockets, what can I say. It's a pain to unhook the metal hook, unzip the waterproof zipper and reach into my pants pocket, then have to use my left hand to pull the right zipper all the way up (I am stocky) but I like the full length zipper so I don't have to worry about muddy boots. The company seems to emphasize that this rain shell is for "emergency" use but it seems durable enough for regular, light use. It's still warm here but I think I should've gotten one of the more heavier weight versions if they are warmer. The first day I wore a loose pair of thermal wicking tights underneath (in 50-60F weather) and I felt a bit of coolness behind my knees. The second day I wore a tighter pair of thermal wicking tights and didn't notice any moisture so the Alpha SL must be getting rid of the sweat once I chose the correct base layer.
