I've owned two pairs of the MJ rimless Lighthouse, and they were fantastic for about a year each until some mildly rough handling led to each snapping at the bridge. I purchased the Ho'okipas specifically because they are similar in style to the Lighthouse, but have a more robust frame that spans across both lenses. So far, I'm very pleased with the build quality and visual clarity; Maui Jim's are consistently excellent in this regard (and you do pay for it).
My only real concern with the Ho'okipas is with the nosepads. Unlike the Lighthouse style, the nosepad stems are integral to the bridge assembly, which makes them virtually impossible to adjust.

...I had it for years, and they were generally great. Good points: Scratch resistant, very light and comfortable, the reader lenses are well hidden- people can't tell they are readers looking at you. The reader lenses are set down far enough so that they don't interfere with your regular field of vision. Like most glasses of these type there is an adjustment period until your brain learns to ignore the magnification (fun walking up and down stairs until you get used to them!). Only bad points- you are really paying for the name, they are quite expensive. Also, polarized lenses make it difficult to read your smart phone in sunlight, or digital gauges in your car; I have have a heads-up display on my current car, and it completely "wipes" it out. From what I understand, polarized sunglasses are also banned for use in aviation for the same reason. The only reason I am not replacing them with a similar pair is the polarized lens issue.

I have many pair's , but like these because they don't leave marks on my nose.

I am a woman, and I purchased these for myself. These were listed under womens glasses, but they are way too big for my face. I had my husband try them on and they fit perfectly, and he loves them. So all-in-all, not a loss, but I am still looking for glasses.

I love my sunglasses! My husband and I each got a pair of these amazing sunglasses in Mexico when I won Gold Club with CareerBuilder in 2015. We both LOVE them. His frames are different, but we are both so impressed with how vivid and beautiful the world looks when we have them on. Best sunglasses I've ever had, hands down.

I have bought the Hookipa's over the last 10 years and do like them because, 1, They are comfortable 2. They do the job filtering the sun that sunglasses are supposed to 3. They are stylish I have continued to look over the same 10 years to find a better value because, 1. These are VERY delicate 2. The lenses scratch easily 3. They are difficult to clean

Great looking and lightweight glasses! Only issue is lenses scratch fairly easy so have to be extremely careful they don't fall onto concrete surfaces.

Typical Maui Jim's: great optics and great fit the only minus is that these are readers and the magnified section is too small. I end up crossed eyed trying to get the text and the field aligned.

I've had the glasses for over 2 years. They are nice looking, comfortable and light which is what I was looking for a pair of sunglasses. The colors through the lens are outstanding. But for the price I expected these sunglasses to last a lot longer. Both lenses are a bit cracked around the screw near the nose pad. Maui Jim does not cover lens replacement after 2 years so in order to fix it I have to order new lenses and they are extremely expensive. Seems to me this is a bit of manufacturer defect since both of them are cracked in same area, but don't think Maui Jim will honor it past 2 years. If it wasn't for this I would give it 5 stars but when you spend this much you expect the sunglasses should last longer than this.

Very limited field of vision, I bought to us while fishing, bi-focal is a very narrow band in the lower eye glass not really usefully and hard to focus.

The Hi'okipas are really great sunglasses, but are not durable. My shades are always on a lanyard around my neck or hanging from a hook when not used. After having 1st pair for 8 months, they broke where frame screws into lens. MJ replaced that pair under warranty. After losing original pair, I bought a second pair from Sunglass Hut. The sunglasses broke in the exact same place about 9 months later. After shipping damaged pair to MJ, I was told damages were my fault. If the lenses get a stress fracture where it meets frame due to normal flexing of the sunglasses, then it is an engineering flaw and not negligence. I paid $120 for the repair this time, but won't buy another pair of Ho'okipas. I'll enjoy them while they last!

I really love the fit and comfort of these glasses. Unfortunately I would not buy them again because in the little over 2 years I have had them they have broken twice. The first time I dropped them on a carpeted floor and the right temple piece simply broke off. The second time, as I was taking them off the left temple piece snapped off. The only reason I can give them 3 stars is due to Maui Jim's repair policy. They have repaired them both times for only the $10 service fee, but there will not be a third time.

I can't put on a cap, a wide-brim light weight hat, headphones without them lifting the nose pads ever so slightly off my nose so as to have the lens shake rapidly when tilting head down while doing all sorts of house chores and projects. I also can't put my motorcycle helmet on wearing this frame. I love the lens though and will be talking with my prescription retailer about taking advantage of Maui Jim's 100% customer satisfaction and choose a rimless frame which won't interfere with wearing hats, headphones, and helmets. If you're not planning on wearing those items on your head, then I would strongly recommend these frames.

I've had mine almost 2 years. The nose pad piece broke recently. I won't say they were the most comfortable set of shades I've ever had. Would I buy this same pair again? Probably not. For this price they should fit like a glove and be a little more durable. IMO.

I purchased in Jan. While placing in my boat sink (very smooth) a bottle cap dropped into sink and scratched lens. I've had a pair of Oakley square wire 2.0 that fell off my head and still have no scratches.

We have owned Maui Jims for years. My wife and I bought the Hookipa Readers for a trip to Antarctica and the material is MUCH darker and not nearly as clear. Very disappointed

I wore these for about 5 years and loved them except; I broke the frame at the nosepiece 4 separate times. For example, I always wear glasses with a neck strap, lean out the car window to get my mail, the nosepiece broke, put them in a jacket pocket and laid the jacket on a chair back, sat in the chair normally and the nose piece broke. Customer service was good about repairs but I gave up and changed brands after the 4th time. Not a broken pair since.

I loved these sunglasses. They look great, they feel great, the color and clarity from the lens is fantastic, but unfortunately they broke at the bridge and from what I've read, this appears to be a common issue. For $230 CAD, I would expect a little more.

The screws were all loose on the glasses when I wore them. I had to tighten them all up. The glasses fit great on my face and love how light they are.
Not a fan of the new case. My last Mia JIms came with a hard zip case and nice bag. Used my case when my glasses went into my backpack and used the bag to store them away in my truck. This new case will not fit in my sun glass storage and collapses in my back pack. Horrible I hate it! Bring the bag and old hard case and nice bag.

These sunglasses are not for a small face, they were way to wide and would have fell off if I looked down. Also the reader is tiny and not easy to use. The clarity and darkness of the lense is good but that’s the only good part of these glasses!

My wife and I have owned Maui Jim's for around 14 years. We love the looks and fit and lenses. We treat them as fragile as we can. For good reason. In that amount of time we have had to send them back at least a dozen times or so.
We decided today we are done supporting a over priced item. I think when you spend $170-$295 on glasses you expect more from them. Unfortunately with Maui's, the quality isn't there. They are just to fragile for the price.

Overall a disappointing purchase, not anywhere near as dark as I expected them to be or as protective from glare; there's little to tell the difference between these and a $25 pair of foster grant's I bought in Mexico. More problematic though is that they're very vulnerable to scratches; by no mean do I treat my sunglasses badly, especially at this price point, however, I now have 2 small scratches right in the sight line of these after just a few months of wear. My Rayban's have lasted for years without suffering scratches that affect vision like the Maui Jim's. They are very comfortable though, and very light weight, they don't get caught in my hair when I push them up on my head and they stick well on my head without a leash (I typically have to put a leash on my Rayban's if I'm doing anything active to make sure they stay put). So some good points and some bad but at $189 there really shouldn't be any bad. Won't be purchasing this brand again.

The frames on any gas station variety of glasses are of better quality. There are pressure points on these frames that are not reinforced ad thus are likely to crack. This is not a "if" but a "when" statement. If you ask customer service before you purchase them, they may tell you that. If you buy first and then wait a few years, they will ask that you spend $134.90 to replace them. If sure they have other quality options but this pair aint it and they will not stand behind this $200 purchase. Don't believe me...ask them yourself.

2 years old.Lens scratched super easy, impossible to clean with anything other than soap and water. Right lens cracked and will break at the nose piece. Very good clarity, bright sun does not bother me at all with these on. Either the ears pieces or the top of the frame hits my head gear, sometimes both at the same time. My last pair of MJ's lasted 6 years when I lost in the ocean, replaced the lenses 2x due to broken nose pieces, $30 + fee to repair at that time.
