First off, I am a Hoka convert. I have the Stinson Trail and Bondi 3 which I love. Just ordered Stinson Tarmac. I wanted a lighter pair for more speedwork and was hoping to use them for a marathon. I was hoping the Rapa Nui would be that shoe. Unfortunately, they were not. I found the uppers very stiff. I developed blisters on the tops of my toes after just a few runs. If you have wide feet, I would not recommend these shoes. They do feel much more agile than other Hoka's. They don't have as much of that Hoka cushion, so if you are wanting that same feel as the Stinson or Bondi, its there, just not as much.
I'd also recommend:
Hoka Stinson, Bondi 3, Mizuno Wave Rider

I am in my late 70's, and I didn't buy these shoes for running on paved surfaces. I bought them for walking in New York City on the pavement. They have really helped. I can now walk without joint pain and I am about an inch taller too.

I'm new to the Hoka One-One brand, but thus far I'm very impressed with the quality of the shoes, which are very well made, and the comfort as I'm increasing mileage in training for my first full marathon. I cross shopped these with the New Balance Fresh Foam 980, and felt that the Rapa Nui 2 was the better shoe for my needs. Ergonomics are great for my feet, and they feel great after hours pounding the pavement. I feel like I'm recovering more quickly from my training runs, which allows me to move on to my crosstraining workouts. Honestly, I feel like these are fantastic, and I'm very happy with the purchase.

I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee after months of hobbling around. The surgeon recommended that I try Hoka One One shoes. I did my research and it looked promising even though I usually don't spend anything close to this on athletic shoes. I called the company's customer service and they said I should try this specific shoe. I don't run. The shoes came very quickly, so that on the third day after surgery I was able to try them. I put them on and took a stroll across the room. My wife said "you are not limping" which was the first time in 4 months that my gait was normal. I wear them all the time now that I can and will probably buy a second pair. Thank you Hoka!

Like the pull-string quick lacing system. VERY thick soles that are also very soft. Comfortable to walk in but because of thick soft soles caused a wobbly unstable walking pattern that was not good for my low-cartilage knees and problematic lower back. Style is rather odd-looking.

I have worn other Hoka One One shoes. The toe box for the Rapa Nui 2 is small and poorly designed. Blisters immediately on top of toes. Modified shoe by taping the rough inner toe box seam, cutting the elastic cross bands and replacing shoe laces with regular ones. I still must tape my big toes. Considering the price you should not have to do this to a shoe. I've run ultras for over 30 years and only had this problem once long ago with Montrail. As advertised the shoe is firmer than other Hoka One One (like the Mafate) and does work at ultra distances. However, considering the toe box I'll buy some other shoe in the future.
