I love these shoes. The Asolo last fits me perfectly, with a narrow heel cup (so important to avoid heel slippage) and yet a roomy toe box. These shoes seem very well made, and are lightweight despite the Gore-Tex liner. The soles are nicely grippy, with good technical features, and the tongue is gusseted, which is key to keeping ticks out of your shoes (I wish the description mentioned this!). I, too, wish Zappos carried more of the colors, but the Wool color is more attractive in person than in the photos, and personally, because I wear hikers exclusively on the trail, I don't care that much how they look as long as they fit and function. That said, these are good looking enough to walk in in an urban environment as well. I also considered the Asolo Ember (which is an excellent pair of shoes if you don't need waterproofing and a gusseted tongue, light, supportive and nimble feeling); the Salomon Ellipse GTX (quality shoe with good lacing system but gave me heel slippage and felt too clunky overall); and the Merrell Moab Waterproof (bit too squishy for serious hiking, but would make a great beating around shoe). Zappos, no one beats your selection and service! Muchas gracias!!

I am enjoying these shoes very much. The wide toe box (widest of all the waterproof shoes I tried) enhances foot health on the trail and I find this shoe to be the most pliable (least stiff) of the other waterproof shoes I have tried. They lace up nicely and the laces stay tied. Good footbed traction.

These shoes run large if using the US sizing. The US size 7 women is UK 5.5, Euro 38 2/3. I typically wear a size 38 / US women size 7.5/ UK 5.5. The Asolo website has an accurate sizing chart to help you determine size. Great shoe. Supportive, roomy toe box, excellent heel cup. The removable insole is supportive. I have not worn them under wet conditions to test the waterproofness, but they are very breathable. My feet do not get hot. I wear CoolMax or SmartWool hiking socks. I have a regular to slightly wide forefoot, high instep. The lacing allows for specific areas of easing and tightening. The laces have enough texture they remain tied. I needed a shoe that would be a great light hiker but wearable in cities as I tour Italy this fall. I really like the fact these are not multicolor shoes. They look like a basic oxford. The wool color is a neutral taupe, which I am finding versatile. Should hide dust/dirt well.

So glad I bit the bullet and got these hiking shoes! I detest wearing shoes that constrict. I have a wide foot. Mostly wear Danskos to work and Chacos in the summer. Have plantar fasciitis. Going hiking this summer. I tried the Outlaw GV and Keen Voyageur Gore-Tex to compare. Asolo wins hands down for me. The fit my wide foot. Roomy toe box. Yet look slender. I have a somewhat high instep and these fit well without having to adjust to a straight style lacing method (as opposed to traditional criss-cross style). They are supportive and comfortable. Asolo has put thought into lacing. The lacing can be adjusted to suit your comfort. And the laces do not come untied. I don't even have to double-tie. They've become my go-to walking shoes this spring, The Gore-Tex works well in the wet morning dew. The reason I preferred the Asolo over the Keen Voyageur's was that the Keens were not as slim looking due to the the thicker padded collar and rugged sole. They just looked a bit clunky. And they had bright laces and trim. I prefer the more subdued style of the Asolo's. And they are suitable for the hiking I plan to be doing. A note on sizing: I ordered my normal 7.5 US size. However, the size tag on the shoe sizes 7.5 US and 39 1/3 EU. This may be causing some on confusion on the sizing.

Cute lavender hiking shoe. Not too clunky. Stiff and supportive. Appropriately heavy but not too. Moderate toebox. Well-made. Perfect size for me, unfortunately, the wrong last. I give it 4's because it didn't work for me. I wear 8.5-9's. These fit well at 8.5.

I bought these two years ago for a trip to Patagonia and ended up taking a more substantial hiking boot instead. They sat in the closet until a few months ago when I discovered that the left front inside grommet dug into my foot and caused a blister just walking around the house. (The right foot didn't bother me.) Too late to return! I was able to extract the grommet after an hour with needle nose players and cutters without tearing the leather. Now they're perfect - roomy toe-box, narrow heal, very supportive, and nice looking.

Great look, happy with the style. They are a little stiff and don't breath as well as my keens.

Really want to love this shoe, but it seems to run large. Typically wear an 8AA in dress shoes, but usually wear an 8.5 in athletic and hiking shoes with a M width if the shoes run a little narrow. Thought this might work because some reviews said it had a narrow heel, but the 8.5 is just too long. That coupled with the generous toe box (which I want to love) makes me feel like I'm sliding around in the front with a little heel slippage in back. I like them so well I'm going to try a .5 size smaller.

Very comfortable shoe right out of the box. Heel is narrow so it's good for motion control if you have over pronation.

I recently ordered these shoes with some hesitation regarding fit as I have had no experience with this brand. I have been so pleased with them. There was no break in period needed. I normally wear a sz. 8 narrow with occasional birkenstock insert for support. Size 8.5 offered a wonderful fit without need for the insert and adequate room for heavier socks. Did some hiking out West recently with resulting comfort, dry feet and great stability. I would order this shoe again.

These hiking shoes are amazing! I have a myriad of foot problems and most shoes hurt my feet after a few hours, even sneakers. I wore these shoes for an entire day with no problems. They're very comfortable and nice looking (even for a day of heavy duty shopping).

I purchased these to wear for light trail hiking. These are high quality hikers, with a good stiff shank and top grade sole. The sole is lugged, but are not so deeply lugged so muck and debri would collect.I own a pair of hiking boots and these are a good "in between" pair for short or easy hikes.I could wear these all day, indoors or for driving. These are not sneakers disguised as hikers.I usually wear a 9 woman's and need width in the toe with a narrow heel.Using the previous reviews, I got a size 8 1/2 and it fits well worn with a good hiking sox.Very happy with my purchase.

I wore these hiking shoes indoors for two days prior to deciding I was going to keep them. I've been on (2) four mile walks since then. Here's my review: I use Sole orthodics in all my shoes, hiking boots, house shoes, etc., due to VERY high arches. Like my 2 pair of ankle high Keen hikers, these shoes do not have a deep enough toe box to accommodate the 3/8" insole. I don't know why, but either they don't make a hiking boot with a deep toe box or I'm shopping in the wrong places. I inserted the 'casual' orthodic that Sole carries, their thinnest one. Walking, I have no discomfort in these shoes. Pretty amazing for me even though there is absolutely no cushioning between the orthodic and the shoe soles. I certainly was missing my thicker insole at the end of my walks. These shoes are not for wearing in the house. They hurt the bottom of my feet. They just want to walk! And they ARE great for that. When I come back into the house I put these along side my other hikers and put on my Espirit mules. I am a size 7.5 and these shoes fit perfectly. I always wear smartwool socks so hopefully they'll be as friendly come the hotter months when my socks are a thinner weight. I have a narrow heel cup - the Asolo Outlaw shoes accommodate all of the imperfections of my feet. I originally ordered the New Balance WW779v1 but they were real clunky and not particularly comfortable. A first for me because I've always owned New Balance for casual walking - I could always count on their deep toe box to easily fit my orthodics.

Love these shoes. Had to send back to get a 1/2 size larger but Zappos was great with that. I work on my feet often for 12 hour shifts and these are soooo comfortable. I did add an arch support but I have to do that with all my shoes. I love these so much I'm thinking about ordering another pair and just leaving them in the box . It's so hard to find good shoes. Did I say how much I love these shoes? Haven't gone hiking in them yet but am sure they will be great.

I usually wear a size 11, but I ordered these shoes in both the 11 and 10.5 based on the other reviews and that was good because the 10.5 was the right size. The heel doesn't slip, the toe box is nice and roomy and they are supportive over all. I had also ordered Ahnu Montara, Ahnu Sugarpine and Lowa Tiago (all size 11). These were the best fitting and they didn't look quite as 'heavy duty' as some of the others. The Lowa Tiago slipped in the heel more than any of the others. I was looking for a waterproof shoe to walk the dogs and wear when it's raining and I have errands to run - and these were goretex lined so I'm confident that I'll have dry feet.

I purchased these shoes to wear for a two-week trip to Ireland and they did not disappoint. My feet stayed dry in the pouring rain and we had a lot of it. The reasons I purchased them was for the narrow heel, wide toe box, and lacing mechanism. I love the shoes and they were very comfortable; however, they seemed to not hold traction on wet flat smooth surfaces.

Can I say I love this shoe! It is exactly what I've been looking for...nice neutral, sturdy, waterproof, light hiker with a wide toe box...but I'm returning it - because my heel slips. If only there was a second set of lacing holes at the top like running shoes have. It fits my prescription orthotics perfectly...but my heel slips, so back it goes. This is a great shoe if you don't have a narrow heel.

These shoes are just what I was looking for to take to Ireland this summer. They are comfortable, water-proof, and have the large toe box I need. The lacing style gives the ability to loosen or tighten the toe box which is perfect for a long trip. The color is neutral but I would have preferred a gray. They should not be too warm with a thin sock. So glad I tried this brand and love Zappos extensive reviews and free shipping.

My search for a good walking shoe with a WIDE TOEBOX has ended. These shoes are wonderful - worth the price. Most are too narrow in the front for me and have caused some damage to my feet. These are beautifully made, very solid, good traction. I do have to wear slip-in supports just to raise my ankle above the opening and prevent rubbing. Also love that these are not NEON COLORS.

I have narrow heels and a low arch. It's hard to get shoes that fit well. This model fit my foot in the h eel and supported my foot enough that I didn't need to change the insole. I usually wear a 10 but the 9.5 was the correct length. I just wish Zappos carried more of the colors.

I have a wide foot, so I usually have to purchase up a size from 7.5 to fit my width. The size 8 fit in the width but was 1.5-2 inches too long.

The fit is true to size and I really liked the arch support. While I really like the shoe and the waterproof aspect of the shoe the sole is very stiff which I did not care for. I am returning the shoe for the rigid rubber base.

My husband bought the men's version and loved them. So I ordered some to try. Great quality and exceptionally grippy soles, but they didn't feel great on my feet. There is little flexibility -- they just felt too stiff for me. I ended up keeping the waterproof Ahnus.

Based on the reviews I ordered a half size larger than I usually do. No need. They were huge! I am still waiting on the pair in my usual size so we'll see how those fit. I will say though that the toe box is very wide (too wide for my average foot) but the heel is nice and narrow like I need.
