I ordered three rain shells: North Face Resolve, Patagonia Torrentshell, and Marmot PreCip; all in size medium. I m 5 4 , 132 lbs, hourglass shape with curvy hips. I kept the Marmot PreCip and returned the other two. I liked it best for the fit, because the hood tucks inside the collar, and for the neck fit. The Marmot and Patagonia were both roomy enough for me to wear another light later underneath. The North Face was a little more snug around my hips, and slightly shorter than the other two. The North Face hood also tucks inside the collar. The Patagonia hood does not tuck, but can roll and fasten inside; however, this means the back of your neck will get wet if the hood is wet when you roll it. The neck of the Patagonia came up pretty high in front when zipped all the way up, and was a little stiff. The Patagonia was the only one of the three that did not have Velcro fastening overtop of the zipper; it has the most pared down design, seems like it is the most technical/lightweight of the three. The North Face had a full mesh lining with a plush neck lining, which was nice, as was the look of the contrasting color; the other two were not lined. North Face had elastic bands at the wrists; the other two had adjustable Velcro closures. The Patagonia had the best hood design, with adjustable drawstrings across the back and around the face, and a separate piece above the brow that would keep the brim sitting forward. However, this also means that hearing is most impaired with this hood; since I will wear this shell at music festivals this is a consideration for me. The Marmot ended up being the best choice for me and I appreciate that Zappos makes it easy to order several to compare and make a choice.

I am a very sweaty person. 70 degrees? Sweaty. 40 degrees? Sweaty. -35 degrees? You got it: sweaty. Rain jackets are the literal worst for sweaty people like me (or maybe nobody else is like me and I'm a freak). This rain jacket? Far from the worst. The pit zips are long enough to actually be useful; that is, letting my pits vent their sweaty steamy stink (definitely smells like flowers and sunshine). Keeps out the rain without leaving me with a creepy-crawly plastic wrap feeling when I take it off. I've carried everything in the pockets, from pieces of paper to my iPhone to dog poop bags (and nobody likes wet dog poop bags). I don't carry an umbrella because I'm an idiot, but this jacket with the hood up and cinched gets the job done.
Stay sweaty, fools.

I am 5'11" and 135lbs, and have great difficulty finding jackets that are long enough, but not boxy. I ordered a medium and it is perfect. Fits nicely, but I would still be able to put a fleece underneath. The pitzips make this jacket super breathable even in high humidity/temps. Have just worn it in light rain, but it is everything I wanted. Especially for tall, thin girls.

I liked the fit of this jacket because the sleeves were long enough and the hood came far enough for rain to not get on my face, but I found the fabric to be so thin the moisture seeped through and made it somewhat uncomfortable. I suppose it makes a great wind breaker but a mediocre rain jacket. Because I wanted a rain jacket, I had to return this item.

I bought this for an upcoming Alaskan trip but have used it while working in Tulsa on several occasions. Definitely keeps me dry. The hood is a bit odd and I haven't quite figured out how to fit to my head. No instructions, so I will need to track down the info. Plenty of room to layer up underneath. Well made.

I tried on several rain jackets before deciding on this one. I love that it fits itself into the pocket and to put the hood up or close it in is very fast. It's super light weight and practical for me living in florida. It has some stretch to it which I need because I have broad shoulders and a more narrow waist. I'm 5ft 7, 138 lb, 34 C and I went with the Medium. The small fit as well but I liked a bit more flexibility in my arms and also the medium was longer. The tag says it has a lifetime warranty which is also pretty cool considering it was a pretty big investment. Hope this is helpful :-).

I bought this to handle the Florida summer afternoon torrential downpours; it works great! I stay dry and don't get overheated. I'm 5'11, 195, and busty but athletic (size 10 pants, size M/L tops). I love the extra length on the sleeves so my wrists aren't poking out. It's thin and allows a sweatshirt underneath when it's cold outside.

Bought this in anticipation of a rainy Bears game yesterday, and it definitely surpassed my expectations. The rain did not penetrate but beaded up as promised. No moisture or wind whatsoever made it through. Wore it walking to and from hotel, tailgating, stadium and back again. Went a size up (large) to accommodate layering; northface fleece, Nike thermal top and t shirt worn under and was still comfortable. I'm 5'6, 160 pounds, busty, athletic build. My husband was extremely upset, his northface version soaked right through within 10 min of the rain, a constant drizzle mind you not a downpour. Worth the investment. Wish I would've purchased it in a fun color, instead of black.

I love this rain jacket. I wanted certain features, and it has them all: waterproof, pit zips to be a little cooler, the hood zips into the collar so it looks slightly more dressy/formal, velcro at the cuffs so adjustable sleeve length, pockets and flattering shaping. I am about 5'4" and 135 lbs, and I got this in a medium so I could wear it over a sweater or jacket. It is a little crackly, but I think that is the price you pay for waterproof, and I need that in this combination hike-a-week-then-visit-Rome trip.

I bought this for a 2-week vacation in Ireland, where it rained at least for a bit almost every day we were there. TOTALLY fine to endure the sprinkles and drizzle in this jacket! Normally I would fit perfectly in a medium in this jacket, but because I am in my 3rd Trimester of pregnancy, I sized up to a Large to accommodate my baby bump. :) Sizing up one size worked PERFECTLY for me. The Paradise blue was a pretty light blue almost like a turquoise gemstone- super cheerful! I LOVED how extremely lightweight and packable this coat was for traveling and hiking in Irish countryside OR in the urban streets of Dublin! My husband had a Precip jacket, too, and I never felt like our coats were taking up any room in our bags or bottom-of-the-stroller-basket. We never used umbrellas because we just wore these jackets and were fine! The "pit zips" were CLUTCH for this sweaty pregnant girl! Haha! This jacket definitely wouldn't be great for someone hoping for warmth; it is PERFECT for those wanting to layer their clothing as needed and hoping for an easy, packable, VERY lightweight jacket that will keep you dry from the rain.

I love this jacket. It's just a rain shell, so it can be worn in warm weather or cool weather with a layer underneath. It is truly waterproof - this winter has been usually wet and this jacket has kept me dry even in a downpour. I ordered this at the same time as The North Face Venture, and although they are similar I kept the Marmot PreCip because it has a better hood (with bungees to keep it in place in the wind).

I love this jacket because it really stops the rain without making me sweat like crazy. The underarm vents are the best. I ordered a size larger so that I can wear it over a warm layer if needed.

I will be returning this item but thought I should review it anyway. I loved many things about this jacket. The color is rich, the fit is relaxed so that you could layer under it if you wish. The weight is extremely light, perfect for traveling or carrying in a backpack. The only reason that I am returning it is that it makes a crinkle sound. I have one very similar to that right now and I was looking for something with a softer feel. Other than that it is a wonderful jacket!

I was in need of a lightweight, packable (packs into one of the hand pockets) rain jacket for a hiking trip and ordered a couple different brands to try on for size. I bought the Precip as well as The North Face Venture Jacket and Columbia Arcadia II Jacket – all in size medium. All fit true to size and had enough room to layer but the Precip jacket definitely fit me the best. The other two jackets were uncomfortable in the neck when the jacket was zipped all of the way. I like all of the features that this jacket has - fully adjustable hood that stows in the collar; velcro cuffs; pit-zips and of course that it packs into its own pocket! I ordered the dark purple color and it is a beautiful color. I haven’t had a chance to test it in the rain yet, but from all of the reviews I’ve read on multiple sites, it seems to perform well.

I haven't had the opportunity to wear it in the rain yet but thought I would comment on sizing. I am 5'6" and 120lbs with slim hips. I ordered a small and it fits well, even with a light layer. I can wear a medium fluffy layer as well but the arms are a bit tight. If I unzip the underarm zippers part way, the fit would be fine. (That is not a fleece I am planning on wearing under it, just tried it as an FYI.) I really like that the hood rolls up into the collar. I think this jacket will work well for me.

I wear a size 16 and ordered the Patagonia Torrentshell along with this jacket. I chose the Marmot because it is roomier in the hips and has a great fit. Love how you can cinch up the ends of the sleeves and love the hood that rolls up into the collar. Am looking forward to taking this jacket and layering it with tops when I go to Budapest and Hungary in chilly wet weather

I really love this jacket. I got the medium because I'm tall and the sleeves and overall length are great. The quality is good compared to other name brands. I bought it in black for an upcoming trip to Europe, and it's very packable. The fabric is quite thin though, but that's probably okay because it'll be worn with a long sleeve shirt or light sweater.

The material was thinner than anticipated, though I didn't get a chance to give it the rain test. I am 5'5" 125 lbs. and got a small, it fit but I felt that it was a bit too fitting and wouldn't be able to get much gear on underneath. I went with the Columbia in a S, slightly more room and longer.

Haven't tried it in the rain yet but wore it in the shower to test the waterproofing and it performed very well. Very little water seepage into the seems, I imagine a light rain will be perfectly fine but really long in a torrential downpour may have a little seepage.

The best light weight rain jacket recently bought my second one in a larger sizer. It's extremely durable and functional with so many great details. The hood folds up smoothly and the body of the jacket is slightly tapered. Get this jacket you won't be disappointed.

Best lightweight rain jacket you can buy. Keeps you dry all day and is small enough to pack away when the rain stops! My husband wears M/L/32/32 and the medium fit great with room for a layer.

This is my 3rd time purchasing this same jacket. The first time I needed it for a trek i was taking with my husband in Cusco, Peru - an expedition to find the last Incan civilization (NOT Macchu Picchu) and i left it with a new friend I'd met - a yoga instructor from Lima) who adored it. I'm 5'5 and she's 5'9 and still, it fit her perfectly, as our weight is about the same. She loved it. Then it happened again. I bought one for myself and wore it to death until it was nearly in rags. So i bought it again - only 1 size up - and it's PERFECT. I hope to find someone who admires it on me that i end up giving it to and to her so I can buy another one. Thanks, Marmot. xoxo

The jacket is lightweight and packs easily into a carryon bag. I love the hood that rolls up and stores in the collar. I rejected a lot of comparable jackets made by other companies because the hood just hangs in back when not in use. I hate that.

Gift for wife - was her #1 choice out of about a dozen options. Good balance between too flimsy vs. too heavy. She likes the underarm zip vents. Very practical.

The pomegranate color is appealing. She appreciates the zip pit to cool off. Got it on sale for a great price so very happy about this.
