Disregard anyone who writes a review after wearing a pair of boots one time. I wore mine for 18 months and now I'm ready to write a review. I have 15 pairs of shoes 4 of them being these boots. I'm a fashion photographer but my judgment in styling sucks. These are my go to boots and the best choice I ever made. They look better by the day as it ages. The leather has gotten so soft. They are definitely not the most comfortable choice of footwear but which boots are. So I have a second pair of sneakers in my car and if I have a 2 hour drive I switch to sneakers for the drive. These boots match anything I wear aside from a suit. I can't say that about any other footwear in my closet. They get so many compliments. As for the quality, it's amazing, well built and solid. The zipper on the back makes it so easy to get them on and off.

So the boots fit in the foot but there's lots of room around the ankle. I'm normally a 10 but I went up a half size from reading other reviews. I dont think they'd be much tighter around the ankle if I got a size 10 anyway.

Boots look awesome. You will want to give some time to wear in the boots for them to become comfortable. I agree with many of the other reviews that the boots are in the more narrow side so I would get half a size up from your regular if you have a wide set foot. Overall great boots and I’m happy with my purchase.

I ordered size 11, which is typically good for me in shoes, but with boots it often runs long. These boots were definitely long, and surprisingly narrow for my moderately wide foot. No way I will be able to fit into a half (maybe full?) size down comfortably. These are really very good looking boots (a tad distressed look on the dip dyed black), but not a good fit for a wider foot. I gave five stars across the board, because of potential, but not actual use.

I love Bed Stu. I love love the Protege boots. I have two pair, the Tan Rustic and the Taupe Rustic Tremolo that I have had for over a year. I have nothing negative to say about them. The styling, color, comfort, and the quality are all excellent. They are all i wear to work with jeans everyday, it is almost always the Tan Rustic, a bit more rugged looking makes them my favorite. If I do need to dress up with khakis I'll jump into the cleaner look of Taupe Tremolo, they're sharp too. Very easy on and off and they never hurt my feet, whether it is a long day of traveling through airports, driving, lots of walking, or a day in the office. They are awesome.

At first it felt very narrow, but it opened up after a couple of wears. Got 8.5 and it fits true to size now; I normally wear 8.

If you typically wear sizes 10 1/2 To size 11 depending on the type of shoe or brand I would recommend getting a 10 1/2! They are super comfortable and excellent quality they just fit a tad bigger than normal!

It took a few times of wearing them to break in, but now I never want to take them off. I always get complements on them too. I plan on getting another color.

Amazing finish and feel, with all the character giving imperfections of true handcrafted leather. Exactly what you’d expect from Bed Stu. I’ve owned other Bed Stu boots, and these feel a bit small and narrow compared to the others in the same size ( I have very flat feet), but the leather is soft and pliable, so they will break in easy after a bit of discomfort if your pair is right on the edge of too small. I would have liked the laces to be a bit longer for wrap around tie. Overall, great pair of boots if you’re looking for something with a casual “tennis shoe” aesthetic, presented in a gorgeous handcrafted leather.

These boots are so sexy! I bought the Black Lux. I usually wear a size 10 and I bought a size 10. They are definitely snug but still comfortable and do not in any way hurt my feet. I think they might be too tight with thick winter socks though. I'm going to keep them and see if the leather expands. Delivery was fast and amazing as always.

They came in too light and almost a tan color. I was bummed and ordered them from Bed Stu as well. Both very Tan. I wanted them darker. I returned these because I tried a smaller size.

Size was unique. It’s on the narrow side but there’s extra space around the heel. The footbed is not uncomfortable. Arch support is normal. I do have a bit of rubbing/uncomfortable feeling on my right upper ankle back when walking. Styling is as the pics suggest-they look like combat boots you’ve had for 10-15 years. The easy on/off through the back zipper is nice.

I bought these boots because of the style. And I have no complaints there. The style is beautiful. But, boy-oh-boy, they are uncomfortable to wear. Now I'm afraid to put them on for a second time for fear of more blisters. Disappointed!

Right boot was significantly tighter than left boot. Have a pair of these in a different color and same size and fits great. Seems quality has gone down for Bed Stu

If you order this boot in any color make sure you at least go up a half size from what you normally wear in Bed Stu. I would say a whole size up if you are going to wear super thick socks.

These are the most amazing boots I've ever owned. The quality, uniqueness and hand crafted detail is exceptional. Each pair is different and a work of art. I especially love the distressed look of the Black Lux finish. Worth every penny and more! If it is helpful to anymore, I am a woman who wears a size 9 in women's sizes and ordered the smallest size they had. (I liked the soles on these better than any of the women's styles.) I wear thick, Smart-Wool socks as these aren't really warm and also wear orthotics inside. Love Bed Stu...

I just got my boots delivered and they look and fit awesome. I originally ordered my typical size 9 that I buy for all my boots. However, these size 9 boots felt too tight and narrow. So I had them exchanged for a 9.5 which by the way was really easy to do with Zappos's outstanding customer service. I called on a Sunday and they shipped my new size boots that same day. These size 9.5 fit perfect. These boots do require a break in period since they are leather and do feel a little tighter than other boots, but not to the point of discomfort. I recommend getting a half size bigger if you are considering purchasing these boots.

Boots arrived right before a business trip to Europe. I tried them on, everything was tight and stiff, like a new leather boot should be. Fit was true. Great looking boot. Broke in very nicely over the week, with a few expected hotspots as part of the journey. Very stylish. Would wear them everywhere and all day now. Very happy I got these - my best pair of boots.

These are really beautiful boots. Everything from Bed Stu has incredible style, and attention to detail, even if their motto includes imperfections. I take this to believe they celebrate how each pair turns out with some variation, which adds to their unique quality. My pair came with a bit more variation in color that what you see in the photograph. I was put off by it at first, but they've really grown on me. The rear zipper is brilliant — a great feature for easy on/off that I wish all boots had. They fit like a glove. I rated the comfort 3 stars only because they're still breaking in a bit. I also have problematic flat feet so wearing stylish shoes is a challenge for me. I suspect these boots would feel great immediately for most people with 'normal' feet.

Absolutely love them. From the moment I first put them on I knew Bed Stu Protege (Black Lux) without a doubt will become my favorite footwear. Excellent workmanship and comfort, and you gotta love the look. My only regret is that I wish I had gotten them sooner.

my first ever online review: THESE ARE GREAT! The leather feels so nice, fit is perfect and they are comfy right away. I typically shy away from spending this kind of $$ on myself, but i have worn these twice and already feel like they have paid for themselves. I am so happy i made the decision to just do it. The color IS a little lighter than i expected - it is a fairly transparent finish so you can see the lighter color leather through it, but i quickly got over that detail. easy on, easy of and they make you feel like a million bucks. do it!

I was very hesitant to buy this pair because I've never had this brand, and my shoe size really depends on the shoe maker. I was on my way out of the building when I saw the package, and decided to try them on before running out. I put them on, and they instantly became my best friend. They actually feel that I've had them forever. Well done bed-stue

Allittle snug out of the box, but they break-in quick. Feels incredibly well made. I owned Steve Madden boots before and was let down after a year as they began to tear and fall apart. These Bed Stus feel and look top notch.

These are my new favorite boots. I originally stumbled onto these looking for a casual boot with a side zipper for easy off-and-on, of which there are many. I don't like plain black boots and nearly never wear brown, which pretty much excluded even the most comfortable boots in that style from Timberland. Originally I would have said that these boots were beyond my budget, but these are incredibly well-fitting and comfortable for the style of shoe. They look badass, break in easily (and quickly), reek of manly-man leather, and give a substantial height boost. The zipper on the back means you never have to futz with laces while getting the look for free. These boots have my highest recommendation; you'll know where the money went the moment you put them on.
