I have had the black mat pro for 4 months and have not regretted the purchase. I was worried that I would slip too much, but this has not been a problem. I prepared the mat with salt per the instructions and practice on it about 3 times per week and have worn it in nicely! I also love the thickness which provides good cushion for the joints. I wanted a mat that I could practice on without slipping, that I wouldn't have to replace in 6 months and that is environmentally friendly - got it!!! Thanks Manduka!

A very good mat. It keeps traction well in non-hot classes. Solidly built; durable and rolls well.

Great mat but I wish the grain of the mat ran horizontally rather than vertically because my hands slip a bit.

This mat is rugged, a bit heavier than I expected, but I use it for home. It works well, I don't have any trouble with slipping.

i have practiced yoga for about 28 years. Having heard of Manduka mats I decided to give it a try. I bought it online and choose a model to take to the studio. The Pro mat -suggested by the quizz on your web page- is not the correct one. It is too heavy!
Besides I find it too hard.

I bought this as a gift. After first use, he complained that it was slippery. So, he had to salt it? Also, it's bulky, so he had to buy a carrying strap that really should have come with it in the first place. So, it's expensive and high maintenance

The mat is slippery out of the box. I followed the instructions included with the mat by applying sea salt. I am on my third application. Has improved but still slippery.

I bought this a month ago for my girlfriend who is a yoga instructor. Great support and quality but the texture was unexpected and quite slippery for regular use and unusable in hot classes.

Love the support under the knees which is why I went with the thicker heavy mat but hands and feet still slip I could have stuck with my old mat and just bought towel

I bought this to replace the Lululemon thick Matt I had had for a bout 7 years. The Matt works well in dry conditions but put it in a heated room and it is is really slippery. I tried scrubbing it with salt as was recommended but it it not the Matt I thought I was getting. Needs a towel big time. I sweat a lot when I do yoga and this not a good matt for people who sweat.

For the price, I shouldn't have had to bake my mat in the sun, scrub it with salt, and rinse it down with dishwashing liquid SIX times in order to achieve a basic level of grip and not be scared, rattled and off-balance in class due to slipping around. I'm not talking about sweat-slipping, I'm talking about the lack of basic grip with standard levels of skin moisture. The combination of sun, salt and dishwashing liquid (I used Mrs. Meyer's) was the only thing that did it. Sun and salt alone didn't work. It's been okay for about a month now but getting to the point where I may have to do it again. And don't suggest that I buy a towel: A towel gets in the way of my practice, and I shouldn't have to anyway. It's a real problem, guys. Why don't you just pre-break them in or take a step to remove whatever it is (oils?) that cause this? This is supposed to be the king/queen of mats, but honestly next time I would just get a cheap one and replace it once in a while.

This is beautiful and a great mat length, however as a teacher who doesn't sweat, I still found it too slippery. It is definitely missing an extra of grip stubbles. I previously used a jade mat for 5 years that was 1/3 of the cost and weight and never had any slippage. It's also pretty heavy so a bag/carrier is a must.

I would recommend this product with the caveat that is awfully heavy

The mat is of pretty good quality and has held up well the last 6 months of regular use. Miles ahead of the cheap mats that literally fall apart after few uses. Having said that, however, the issue is that the my hands still slip on this mat in downward dog, even after using this regularly (around 5 times a week). I must admit that I did not get the salt treatment done, but I figured after using this regularly for almost 7 months, the slipperiness would cease, but alas that's not been the case thus far. It's not overtly slippery, but definitely enough to make one uncomfortable in downward dog, and it gets worse if your palms are even mildly sweaty.

I think the quality of the mat is excellent but I was unprepared for the weight. I live in the city and frequently commute with my mat. The weight is awkward on the Metro and bus

Unfortunately, this mat is slippery. I'm not sure what it's finished with, but even after three serious yoga sessions, my toes and fingers were slipping. I couldn't deal, so had to return. Gave 3 stars since everything else was amazing.

I ordered this mat directly from Manduka. (Should have checked Zappos first. You cannot beat free shipping and free shipping returns!) And although I loved the support of this mat and I loved the color, I did not love the weight of it. 7 pounds does not seem like much but because I teach I carry around 2 mats with me and it felt like a ton of bricks on my shoulder. I started yoga because of back problems so it seems counterproductive to haul around a really heavy mat. If you keep a mat in your housestudio and it's always there then I highly recommend this mat. It's heavy, it stays in place, it has a life time guarantee, the support is amazing and you'll never go back to thin non-rubber mats again. But to pack around...too heavy for me. I returned it and am ordering the Manduka Pro-lite.
I'd also recommend:

I used my mat for the first time this week and I was so disappointed! I had no grip at all and even my feet were slipping. I may have a yoga mat for life, but not one I can really use...

I have practiced with this mat for a few months now and am not impressed. I was willing to carry around a heavier mat for better cushioning and grippy-ness, however this mat is incredibly slippery. I do not use it for hot yoga, so the slickness of it surprised me and has not improved with time. I've tried several times to "break it in" with the salt method and unfortunately it has not improved at all. The cushion of it is nice, but the texture makes the most simple movements much more difficult due to slippage. As a tall lady, the length and width is perfect though.

I've had an Eko for four or five years now and I'm not sure why I thought I needed a different mat. The only thing I really like about the Pro is its cushion. Other than that, the Eko is way better with grip, lighter, and doesn't seem to require the use of a towel every time I use it like I feel I need to with the Pro. If I don't put a towel down and spray it with water I have virtually no grip with my hands or feet. If I could I think I'd return it, and maybe just get another Eko instead.

I love the texture and softness if this mat
I didn't like the smell until it wore off perhaps you
You could put vanilla or lavendar or rosemary with the liquid rubber to make it smell pleasant. That would be so neat!

This mat is firm, but slippery under a lot of sweatting. The biggest problem is the weight, it is way too heavy...
