I have the Shale riding booting 8.5. I wear an 8.5 - 9 depending on who makes things. Everyone said size up because this boot is difficult to get on. Well with my past experience with Sorel the 9's were too big in another style and I was upset because they sold out of what I wanted and had to just do a full return - which was horrid because it was through the Sorel website and they were very slow and don't have free return shipping, so it cost me, ugh. Anyway, Zappos like always, is magical. My boots arrived looking fantastic. I can tell a few people have perhaps tried them on but they weren't used. It was snug to put these on but here is what I did. Sat down, looped my fingers through the pull tab and pointed my toe while giving them a good shove on. Once my foot was in - it was extremely comfy. The soft inner liner is really nice feeling and you can tell this is a high quality boot. I live in Washington state and its the winter now - so very drizzly and these are perfect. I don't know how they would hold up in a torrential downpour, but I'm generally just running errands and walking dogs on trails. These are truly gorgeous boots and I feel super stylish wearing them. I am someone who wears a lot of black - so the pop of the grey is a nice accent. The grey is darker in person than the light grey I see in the online photos here- but that could just be my screen? The color I see for the actual shale boot is more like a deep sharkskin color grey. These feel rugged enough for me to take them all terrain but also dressy enough to wear with fleece lined leggings and a tunic dress. The top back adjustable strap is really nice. I'm a hiker and have muscular calves. So finding boots that work without having to size up and up to be clunky can be challenging. I'm so very pleased with these boots and I recommend you give them a shot. I look at the models online wearing these with the teeny legs - these gap away for them on their legs but since I have bigger calves - about 15.5. These hug me, but also taper down and hug my ankle - showing off the shape of my leg - not just a straight shaft of blah. So all A's for style comfort and practicality. Just by taking them on and off - I can feel them becoming more my boot and easier to pull on and off. These would not be my go to boot if I needed to throw something on super fast to dash outside for mail or letting dogs out quick. These are boots I would wear around town walking - dates, work, shopping, trail walking my pups for a couple miles. Throw on boots I have are Bogs high handles - great for just sloshing around - and Frye Veronica Slouch - beautiful boot - just a little dodgy slippy sole. Okay, I hope my ramblings have helped you with your consideration of this boot. I say it's worth it!

I bought these for my daughter for Christmas and she loves them. She teaches riding lessons in Colorado and these keep her feet nice and toasty. She rides in them as well. They are tight so she wears boot socks. They also rub a little in the ankles. A half size larger would probably fix that though. They didn't arrive in time for Christmas due to shipping issues, but Zappos took care of this by crediting me the full amount of the boots back! Awesome company to work with and I will be sure to order from them again in the future!

These boots are perfect. The shale color combo is beautiful! The main deal with the sizing is they are a little narrow in the foot and they do run a tich small. I wear an 8 or 8 1/2. My left foot is an 8 1/2 and the right is an 8. I ordered the 9 based on reviews. Thank you reviewers. I appreciate the assist. I love me a nice quality boot. Nice to have a pretty much all weather boot that looks so good.

These boots are super water proof and super cute at the same time. I was looking for warm waterproof boots that didn't look like the typical bulky, unattractive rain or snow boot. These are awesome!

I waited a year to buy these because they sold out on me last winter while I was debating about spending the money. I figured if I still wanted them a year later, it wasn't an impulse buy! These boots are so cool. I ordered a whole size up, and at first thought they were too tight (hard to pull on and tight around the top of my foot, but roomy in the toes). However, the next time I wore them they seemed to have already broken in a little. They are not lined boots but still very warm. I can't wait to wear them more often! I have muscular calves and the boots fit great with leggings and tights and I can even get them over my skinny jeans. I love Sorels.

I would buy something else, infant I now have to buy another pair to replace these after only one winter. My right boot was only waterproof for a few months, the heels of the boots wore down very very quickly the white material they use for the inside of the heel is showing, this is ugly and extremely slippery when hits the ground first with my weight on it. The rubber on the bottom of the heel is gone and the fake wood look wrapping around the sides of the heel are going. I expected better quality form sorel. You can no longer assume that sorels will be warm like you used to. They make a ton of boots and some are very warm and some not, these are NOT. I had to layer locks like a mad woman and they just don't cut it. My final straw broke when on my way to my kids school today my right boots filled with very cold water from the unavoidable puddle I tried to get through. Sucks. The boots did not wear well I am very unhappy with these, especially since I paid a bunch and expected good quality. Now I am wearing the 8 years old pair from the back of the closet these were supposed to replace, very happy I stuck me there at this point, because after these slimpacks not lasting two wontersiwikl finish out the season with my old ones and start my search again for new boots - anywhere but the sorel store!

These boots are amazing! They fit perfectly in the calf, which is not always the case with high boots and they are warm and kept my feet dry, while walking on the beach. Sorel makes quality boots and these are no had many compliments on how stylish and attractive these boots are. Great boots for outdoor and everyday wear!

Yes, just like everyone else said they are difficult to get on and off at first...but after a week or so it gets much easier which is a great trade off for how awesome looking they are! Sidenote. I bought these on Zappos in brown and fell in love & wanted to buy them in the gray as well, BUT Zappos had temporarily sold out in my size in gray. I made the mistake of going to the Sorel company website & ordering them there--They sent me a pair that somebody had obviously worn and returned. Not only that, but the leather on shaft of one boot was an obviously different texture than the other, and also was almost an inch shorter. This pair was beyond defective. I wrote the company twice about it and heard no response, THEN I received an auto-generated email asking me to rate these defective boots, I did so, and still zero response from the company. Moral of the story: I (usually) love Sorel boots, but if I ever decide to buy them again I will only buy them on Zappos because I keep hearing such great things about their customer service. I don't think they'd ever be so absent when there was so valid a list of complaints.

I love the look of this boot but it does run small. I usually wear a size 6.5 or 7 depending on the shoe. I ordered a 7 and my left foot didn't go in at all! I will be returning these and reordering a size 8. Fingers crossed the size 8 fits because they really are so cute!

I ordered these in the shale/gray color. They are very nice looking boots. I ordered my normal size 8 and the half size larger 8.5 The 8s did fit but I liked the little extra room in the 8.5. I can wear them with thick socks or a thinner sock (in the spring rainy weather). They look very cute with skinny jeans and with a little swingy causal skirt I have. I recommend these "cool" boots. They don't look like the standard rain boots. They are a little rugged and hip looking boot. Zappos is a dream company!

Love these! Ordered them received them and they were all scratched up. Zappos sent me another pair! I love Zappos, the best customer service! I'm a true 7.5, ordered an 8 and they fit okay with a thin dress sock. However, they rub the back of your foot when walking due to the thin sock. I would order a full size up to accommodate a regular thick sock especially for colder climates. Sadly I'm sending back.

I could not get my foot into this boot. They will be returned ASAP. They arrived with scratches on the leather.

While the style is great and comfort is nice, after spending this much by the second season the rubber was cracking. Poor quality materials by Sorel. Very disappointed.

Waited a while to make this review. Wanted to see what I REALLY thought about these. Having said that ~ I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these Sorel's!!! And as an owner of more than one style of this brand, I can say with confidence that these are, without a doubt, my faves. This style is fabulous, comfortable with jeans, but okay with other styles. I have had many compliments on this pair of shoes ~ great for going out, or just walking the dogs (in the snow, LOL, I know.....) Just had to let people know, they're a bit $$$ but worth every cent :)

Love! I was nervous only going up a half size - I have seen so many reviews about how these boots run small. They are perfect. No problems getting them on or off, they are comfy and I love them. That said, I am 5'10", have thin legs, narrow feet and am a runner. (People who say they can't get them on as they are too tight, or that they hit them too far up by the knee could be 5 foot nothing with huge calves, who knows?) I can see how they wouldn't be considered winter boots, but when that time comes, I will slip in a sheepskin insole and see what's what. I wore them for a grand total of two hours before I got my first compliment - I like to think I wear nice stuff, but I rarely get compliments on my boots, so I was very happy!

I LOVE these boots! They are comfortable, easy to wear, look fun & stylish, and still do their job of keeping you warm and dry. I ordered a 7, (I usually wear a 6.5), thinking of bulkier socks -- worked perfectly! Highly recommend.

Love these boots. I have small calves and these fit great. They are true to size, in my opinion. I have not worn them in wet or extreme cold- but have loved them in the cool February weather. I first saw these in athleta catalog, and have worn them with athletic wear AND dressier jeans. I hesitated buying them because I didn't want to spend so much $ on a pair of casual boots- but I am so glad I did.

These are wonderful boots. I always buy a size 8 in boots even though my shoe size seems to be a 7½. I like boots a little roomy. The size 8 in these is perfect, and I kept those. The 8½ was too big and my feet did not stay in place in the heels. They are really cute, good for narrow calves, especially with the slide pull adjuster at the top. They look great with skinny jeans and leggings. They are not warm like snow boots, but are perfect for rain and the days after it snows when things are slushy or frozen. I wear thin SmartWool socks with them and my feet are cozy. The fleecy liner goes all the way down into the shoe part.

I had debated getting these boots early in the season and when I saw them a second time I had to order them. The sizing is perfect, and the comfort is a 10+. I wore them to Mardi Gras and they were comfortable walking miles each day and kept my feet warm and cozy. I am very happy with my purchase!

I've owned many pairs of boots, but these are by far the warmest! I got these prior to last weeks "snowmageddon" the blanketed the east coast to replace my very worn pair of snow boots. I noticed that even when I did not wear socks with these that they were very warm and I could not feel any cold or snow that I was trudging through. Definitely go a half size up though so you have room for socks/ skinny jeans.

These are the cutest boots. I absolutely love them! I did size up half a size after reading reviews, I usually wear an 8 and went with an 8½, if I wanted to wear heavier socks I could have went with a 9. These boots look really good with skinny jeans, and leggings. I have found that they are easiest to get on when wearing with skinny jeans, leggings and slimmers socks. They slide on pretty easily then. If I fold regular straight leg jeans into socks this is the only time it is hard to get them on, but it is worth it as they are just way too darn cute!

Best snow boots EVER! I have the Joan of Arctic boots (in a size 10) which are great when it's really, really cold but they are big and clunky and tire your legs out if you wear them too long. The Slimpack Riding boots are the perfect everyday snow boot. I have worn these boots almost non-stop since I got them. I usually wear a 10, but needed a 10.5 in these. I also have low volume feet, and my feet don't slosh around in these at all. They are lightweight, flexible, cushy, and keep my feet plenty warm in temps from 0-50 degrees. Great grip, great for shoveling, and you can easily run errands in them without wearing your legs out. I love the calf adjustment. I can crank them down all the way to keep them looking more fitted. And super cute to boot, I get tons of compliments on them.

Absolutely love these boots! So comfy and not too hot, but plenty warm. I wear an 8.5 always. Had to go up to a 9 in these.
