I really loved these boots...at first! I was coming out of foot surgery and also trying to adjust to my first pair of orthotics and these were very comfy right out of the box. They were waterproof yet my feet stayed relatively cool even as Texas heated up this summer. I wore them for work (search & rescue for lost pets)about twice a week for 3-4 hours each time. It was all happiness until the waterproofing failed. I'd been wearing them for about 7 months when my feet started getting wet. At first I thought it might just be a buildup of moisture from sweaty feet. But yesterday I brought them into the house and ran some water over the toe box. Within seconds, my hand (inside the shoe) was wet. When I contacted Zappos today (less than 9 months after buying the boots) the rep gave me a guilt trip about returning something that's really only meant to "last for 6-9 months." Really? 6-9 months for sturdy boots that cost this much? He did ultimately offer a refund or exchange, but I'm not one to take something that the company feels I'm not entitled to, so I'll just keep them for dry walks I guess. Bottom line: if you need waterproof boots, try something else...maybe Keens.

The toe box has way too much room. I am very fussy about my shoe/boot fit and generally don't write a review because I have such a hard time with a fit, but these are just too uncomfortable. I also had a hard time lacing the top of the boot so I could tie it.

I have been wearing these for about a month. Absolutely love them! Great fit with extra wide. Can't say enough about the customer service Zappos provided for this purchase.

These shoes are great! Worth every penny! I am usually a 12M with feet on the narrower side. Cautious about needing enough toe room for my trip to Yellowstone, I bought these in 13M. They are perfect! Fit great, very comfy & durable. Love how waterproof they are & when temps dipped into the 20's, these shoes kept my feet toasty with medium weight wool socks. The edge around my ankle was a tiny bit stiff when I first put them on, but they broke in fine just wearing around the house for an hour. Also, at first I'd hoped for a "cuter" style, but honestly, I love to get out on the trails & into the dirt -- so this shoe is the perfect color! They will go the distance for sure. They even had great traction on rocks & some frosty morning walkways around Old Faithful, where I saw some folks slip. Bottom line: I just found the best hiking shoes I've ever had. Thank you so much, Zappos!

This is exactly what I wanted in a hiking boot -- super-comfortable and supportive right out of the box, and not so goofy looking that I feel compelled to change footwear before being seen in public. Let's face it, most hiking boots are hideous. I bought these boots in gray, and they look similar to my old New Balance sneakers. No problem wearing them anywhere. I'm also not someone who can buy a big, stiff, heavy boot and then follow the advice that the boots will "break in" over time. Sorry, but I'm just not that dedicated to hiking. These come just over the ankle for support without immobilizing the whole lower leg like some boots. I usually wear an 8D but bought an 8EE based on reviews. The extra width is a treat. A+

I really like these boots. It has a "rocking" motion (similar to Dansko shoes) that took a bit of getting used to. My orthotics fit in the Wide Width with room to spare. My only quibble is that the fabric of the tongue has to bunch up when laces are tightened. It's not uncomfortable but it makes it a little harder to get the laces around the top set of speed lugs.

This shoe is very stiff over the forefront and the vertical room for toes is not nearly enough for my comfort. I am still searching for a light-weight trail shoe with ankle support that will fit narrow feet, but my Lowa boots are far superior. Compared to my Brooks running shoes, these are shorter and wider.

This style of new balance must be irregular. This is the second time I have ordered this boot both times different sizes. Too narrow and too short. A waste of my time.

I have been looking for a comfortable pair of hiking shoes for some time. I have very high arches and use custom orthotics, so most shoes just do not work for me. These are the exception. I usually wear an 8½W. After reading other reviews, I opted for a 9WW. They are a tiny bit too big, but will work great in colder weather when I wear two pairs of wool socks. In the meantime, I may order a second pair, getting an 8½WW this time, to have for warm weather hikes. There was no breaking in period with these. They were good to go right out of the box. I am a happy hiker.

I am so happy with these shoes. I have bad ankles and I can walk in these shoes with no pain. They do run a bit small and I bought a size 8 instead of a 7.5. Would definitely recommend these shoes. Love them.

Hiked for 5 days on Yosemite NP trails, including up and down 1000-foot hills, many no more than rugged uneven rocks, for about 4 hours a day, and these boots were fantastic in every way.

I got these last-minute before hiking Mt. Fuji. They were great! Comfortable and cushiony instantly. The extra-wide was plenty wide enough for my 4E feet, which is always a miracle. I got a bit of a blister on the back of my heel from the uphill, but I suppose that is what I get for literally never wearing them before hiking a mountain.

I bought these to replace a many years old pair of New Balance hiking boots that had been worn down to the last bit of tread. I loved the old ones so much, they fit like a glove. I was really worried that these new ones would be a disappointment as had happened so many times when buying the newer model of a favorite shoe. My foot is a 4E width and it is hard to find well fitting shoes. I was really surprised to find that this newer model New Balance hiking boot is even better than the old ones! Super comfortable, perfect fit on my wide foot, plenty of toe room. So happy! Right out of the box they felt great. I have put a lot of miles on them in the few months I've had them with no complaints.

I have serious foot problems: born with a club foot that requires very intense ankle support or it collapses. I simply cannot walk any distance without the stability control and ankle support that this shoe offers. I am further constrained by both feet having extremely high insteps and extremely wide width. We're talking 4E. The only shoes I've found that actually go on to my difficult feet, and provide the stability and support I need for walking without significant after-pain comes from New Balance. I love their 4E running shoes with Roll Bar in the heel, but this hiking shoe really gives me the extreme support that I need. I like to walk a mile to my art studio, and without them I am feeling sore for hours. Not exactly a fashion item, but in my early 60s and needing to keep exercising, I'll gladly wear them even with my dresses (helps to live in a hipster community where anything goes).

These run short for size. I wear a 7.0 EEEE. That size did not fit properly. I exchanged for a 7.5 EEEE and they fit perfectly with heavy socks.

I was having problems with blisters and getting these boots that are 1 1/2 sizes bigger than my regular size has really helped, I do have to wear 2 pairs of socks. The boots are comfortable and not too hot.

The shoes are great. They are, however, more boot- like than tennis shoe. I don't see wearing them to gym. With my shoe size,10 1/2 N, I can't be too particular. They are true to size. Carol

I hike almost every day. I have very wide feet and so it is hard to find comfortable hiking shoes. These shoes are wonderful. Good soles, adequately wide, waterproof, comfortable on the very rocky trails on which I hike.

I ordered in 6X wide and size was good with room in the toe box that I need. Boots were perfect mix of supportive without being too stiff. Overall they were very comfortable and I have problem fussy feet. One problem - this pair pinched in on my ankle at the top. Because material somewhat pliable I would have kept them and tried to break in but I found a pair at my local store that were softer so I bought them add returned these. Zappos was great and easy to deal with.

I thought I had problem feet but not in these wonderful shoes. Definitely going to get me through a New York winter. I got the D width and it worked even with my bunion. It accommodates my Pedag insert, too. As a senior citizen, I look for a feeling of stability and preventing falls, so proper fit is essential. I'm very pleased.

These shoes are great right out of the box Wear them to work 8 hrs on concrete floor standing all the time. Wear them to clean the barn and yard, hold up quite well. Definitely waterproof as I wore them in one of our rare days of rain. Great job with the leather and styling. Stepped in dog poop and they cleaned up fabulously. Love these shoes. Might order a half size larger next go 'round because I like thick socks but they are comfortable and true to size.

These are exceedingly comfortable, great innocuous styling, breathable, light. I could not be happier with light hikers, and I have walked through many pairs over the years. These seem to run half a size small compared to New Balance walking/ gym shoes.

I am always searching for tennis shoes or lightweight hiking boots that provide enough room for my orthotics, support my ankle and provide ample room in the toe box. These fit my needs and feet perfectly! I have already ordered 2 pairs. My normal tennis size used to be 8 M width. Now that I use orthotics I buy 9 extra wide.

I love these boots! They are comfortable and have plenty of room in the toe box for my rather wide feet. I have worn them on hot summer days (95 degree heat) and they were great. I just wish they had colorful pink and gray shoelaces to make them a little more fun!

New Balance gets it right with narrow shoes/boots. They understand we need a narrow heel but plenty of room in the toe box. I find these boots comfortable although the tongue fabric does bunch up a bit and efforts need to be taken to try and straighten it all out before lacing. Would love to see New Balance also create a higher boot that covers the ankle completely. Nice and lightweight.
