These are a posh, classic and well made boot. I have a wide foot and not-skinny calf, so I sprayed shoe-stretch, put on a thick sock, got them zipped with some effort, and walked around the house a bit. They softened really quickly. I also love how they are cut at the top; even though they were tight to zip at first, the angle of the cut creates a little space at the top, at the back of the calf, to make the leg look thinner by comparison. I can zip them over skinnies now and still get the same effect. If you have a "standard" foot and calf, then these may be perfect out of the box. I love Frye, and even with my fat foot, a little stretching and I'm good to go!

Although I have depended on others' reviews of Frye boots to guide previous purchases, I have never written my own review before. Because this boot is a new model, there are not yet reviews on the boot and I purchased a pair, I feel compelled to offer guidance: buy them right now! I own several pair of Fryes: Paige tall, Veronica Slouch, Shirley over the knee and now the Melissa Harness with inside zipper. These are by far the most comfortable and most beautiful pair of them all. The leather is soft,the color is rich, the fit is perfect and they look great with skinny jeans. I am 5' 9" tall and my calves are average size. The boots come up just below the knee. I bought my usual size, not down a half size as is customary with Fryes. The zipper was initially stiff but with several practice runs, the zippers move more freely. Buy the boot...you will be thrilled!

I love the looks of this boot and it is extremely comfortable on the foot, but sadly, when I sit down, the back of the boot gouges the back of my leg. I have fairly long legs, but this boot is still to high. So, if you are a person with shorter legs, this boot isn't for you.

These are beautiful and very well-made boots. I, very unfortunately, am returning them because they are too big in the calf. I am 5'6", wear a size 9 1/2, my calf is 13 1/2" at the largest part. I wanted so badly for these boots to be just an inch or two smaller in calf circumference, but I couldn't will them to be. This is not an unusual problem for me though, because my foot is so big, I frequently need a "slim" calf boot. If you're not sure, they're definitely worth a try because they are beautifully made, an "investment" type boot, absolutely gorgeous. In my effort to will them to fit, I tried them with skinny jeans, black leggings, white skinnies, a short dress...fabulous with all.

This is my first pair of Frye boots and I love them! Originally, I ordered the Melissa Harness Extended boots to compare. Well, as nice as the Melissa Extended boots are, the fit around the ankles was too wide, and didn't fit as well as regualr Melissa boots do. Plus, they rubbed my ankles in a very uncomfortable way. I tried these regular Melissa Harness Inside Zip boots on with jeans/layering leggings. They felt snug at first, but not overly so, & with a few walks around my apartment, they began to feel ultra-comfy. I tried the boots on with a short dress, and they look super-cool, too! I am 5' tall & my calves are not skinny. These boots contour to the legs and are flattering, yet they do have some give. (Women with skinny calves would probably be fine with these boots, too, but gals with ultra-wide calves would probably want a different style.) My jeans fit fine inside these boots with room to spare. I ordered them in Dark Brown Vitage Brush-Off, and the color is fantastic. I don't want to take them off! For years, I felt intimidated to spend the money on Frye, because they are pretty pricey . But, I realized that if I had saved the money I spent on all the other pairs of boots that wore out in a year ot two, I could have bought the Frye boots I really wanted all along. Friends of mine who have bought Frye boots have told me that these boots will last for years. With a classic design that never goes out of style, I feel this is money well-spent. If you like the classic English riding boot look, these boots are for you.

Just got these in Redwood size 6. As usual I wear a 1/2 size smaller in Fryes. I'm 5'2" with slim calves & they come just below the knee, a little room in the calf but look good. Zipper works smoothly. Love the harness detail and the heel is just the right height. My 3rd pair of Frye boots. These are a beautiful, classic, elegant boot.

I'm a big boot fan - I have many many pairs. But my black Frye Phillip Harness boots are my favorite. Since I bought them a few years ago (and still wear them!) I wanted to treat myself to a new pair of Fryes. The Melissa Harness looked a little more elegant than the Phillips so I thought I'd try them. Let me just say first and foremost - they are indeed beautiful. The leather is a rich color (I bought the redwood ones) - and very high quality. The zipper lets the boot really fit close to the foot (like a glove). My right foot is a little larger than my left and I felt the difference in the boots, but nothing that worried me since I know they stretch very nicely. Sadly, I have to return them because they're just a little too high for me. I'm 5 feet tall and the boot went right up to my knee, it actually covered about a quarter of my knee! They just looked out of proportion for my short frame (although they were slimming and impressive). The Phillip's are cut lower so that isn't a problem. I am disappointed to have to return them, but will buy another pair of Phillips in another color. They last forever and I feel like a real sh*t kicker in them. Maybe that's just me. ;) Hope this helps you make your decision.

A beautiful, luxurious, well crafted boot. Wore it for awhile on carpet, it broke in well to my imperfect feet! No need for gel pads! I've never bought footwear online before, but the free shipping, free return policy convinced me! The reviews I read also helped a lot! The calf size is perfect, true width, no problem with the length (I'm 5'3"). Reviews on zipper didn't apply...boot zips just fine. Other boots I love? Ecco hunt style, and Dan Post western style. Like wearing gloves on your feet! Try these Frye Melissa harness style boots! I recommend! The classic style will never be outdated!

These boots are beautiful to look at and fit perfectly. The leather is luxurious. However, the width at the top is too much for me...they jut out in back. A good look for a taller woman than me. So they're going back. Too bad.

This boot was a little stiff and snug (ordered half size down) initially but very quickly broke in and they are so comfortable. I wore ski socks in them a couple times because I knew they'd be tight from reading others' reviews but really didn't want them to be big as I continue to wear them - and it worked well! I tried several colors and sizes and ultimately decided on the black in half size smaller than my normal. Dark brown is almost black and reddish brown was too red for me. Like the style, wear, and polished look in the black. Love Zappos quick delivery!

As always Frye does not disappoint, these boots are absolutely beautiful and will last forever! I own several pairs of Frye boots and this is my first camel colored pair, simply amazing! Granted, these boots are a bit pricey but worth every penny, you get what you pay for in a quality product that will last a lifetime. I would highly recommend these boots! One comment on the sizing, these boots do run on the large size, so if you are between sizes, order down. I usually wear a 7.5, I ordered a 7 and they fit perfectly, even with thicker socks.

Too narrow to zip around my calf muscle. Well constructed and high quality. Would have liked them fine if could have zipped them.

Unfortunately, I agree with some other reviewers: the boots are beautiful, the fit is great, however if you are medium to short, the shaft will rub into the back of your leg/knee when you sit :(

LOVE these boots. As some other reviews mentioned, they are a little tight at first but stretch nicely. So cute and comfortable. These are my go-to boots.

I wish they were a little softer from the start but a high quality shoe. The calf is small which is a benefit to some but difficult for a larger calf.

Beautiful boots! I have average to thin calves and found these a bit tight. They did loosen up quickly though. I really love the looks and will wear these often.

Love these boots - They need to be broken in a bit, but they fit really well! I purchased an 8.5 (which can sometimes be too small due to having a wider ball of the foot, especially in boots) but they were no problem to get on. Once they are stretched a little they will fit perfect. The calf fits pretty snug, and I am sure that part will stretch as well.

Quality and comfort. Must have if you are looking for THAT special boot.

These boots are phenomenal. These were my 2nd pair of frye booths and they go with absolutely everything from cute little dresses to leggings and sweaters. The only thing I would say is, I have very thing calves and I don't have much room to spare in the shaft so if you have bigger legs I'd shy away from these

I purchased these boots after Christmas 2016. Initially I believed them to be too tight in my calf and had convinced myself to return them even though they fit perfectly in the length and width. Then I read that if you put a nylon knee high on over your sock and pant leg it is easier to get the boot on and zipped up. I tried this and it worked really well for me and after wearing them a few times they have stretched out enough to become very comfortable. I now can zip them up very easily now and don't even need the nylon on most occasions. I highly recommend this boot for comfort and style and would purchase again.

These boots are classic and chic. The leather is well treated and looks rustic but elegant enough to wear to an office setting for work. When I first tried on the boots, I thought they were going to be too small in the calf. I prefer to wear boots over my pants and don't want them to be too skin tight. I've never had trouble buying boots due to my calfs size, so if this is a troublesome area then these boots might not be for you. I decided to give them a shot and see if they would stretch. The leather gave enough to be comfortable, but not overly loose.

This is a beautiful boot. It is super comfortable, looks great, and of very high quality. One can be proud to own such a pair of (Frye) boots.

I am so happy! I have had a terrible time finding boots that are stylish AND fit. My calves are kind of narrow and so is my heel so very often my foot slips out of the footbed of the boot. Not with this boot! They were comfortable right out the box. In fact I tried them on and went right to a meeting. No breaking-in period needed. LOVE THEM
