This shoe makes you feel like Spider Man. The sole is so grippy that you can actually walk vertically up a concrete wall. The first time I experienced this, I was flabbergasted, and then I realized I bought the power to fight crime. Then I woke up from the fall I had from attempting to scale that concrete wall. Don't attempt to walk up walls. But these shoes will make you feel like they can. Great cushion, solid feel, grippy sole, and excellent trail shoe for someone who doesn't have weak ankles because this do really stick to the trail and will twist you around a bit but in a good controlled way. The tread is the highlight and based on my previous pair, they will last at least a whole season of hard use. Be like Spider Man.

The Fellraiser is now my only trail shoe. I switched from the Salomon Speedcross after wearing them for the last 8 or 9 years. I wanted a shoe that was closer to a "zero drop" in cushioning from heel to toe and the Fellraiser is an awesome mix between exceptional cushioning, extremely aggressive traction and sole, and very little rise in toe to heel cushioning. The shoes collar opening also seems to fit lower on the ankle than most other Salomons, which may be nice for those who want more of a minimalist feel. Bottom line; this has been a switch from a great shoe (Speedcross), to an even greater shoe (Fellraiser).

This is a potentially terrific shoe that is ruined by a very confusing and stupid design decision. For some inexplicable reason, Salomon put a sharp point on the lip of the opening, directly underneath where your ankle sits. Guess what happens every time you take a step? Yep, that point gets driven right into your ankle. It took about 2 miles for the shoe to bore a hole in my ankle. By far the most painful shoes I've ever bought. Since I'd obviously put some use into the shoes I can't return them, so I'm stuck with them. Don't make the same mistake. Spend a little bit more and get the Speedcross 3, which are much more comfortable and aren't designed to wreck your ankles.

The shoes are true to size and the most comfortable shoes that I have ever worn, and better yet they are not made in China. Others who already have them tell me they are great and I agree.

Even better looking than the photo. I love these shoes: Super comfy, grippy beyond belief, and very lightweight. I wear them around as spring/summer walking shoe and run off-road in them as time permits. Couldn't be happier. I love this brand.

I purchased these shoes with intention of using for paintball playing. Most people wear wide receiver or soccer cleats. You have to run a lot on different terrains requiring quick stops and turns. I had a problem with my ankles in soccer cleats after wearing for 8+ hours and really cleats are not that good in the woods. I normally wear a 10.5 or 11 in shoes depending on the brand. These required me to get a 11.5. still very little room in front of my toes, just enough to not have pressure on the tips. So they ran small in my opinion by at least size. This was the first thing I noticed. Second thing I noticed was the comfort. These are probably the most comfortable shoes in general that have ever been on my feet. I am a shoe hoarder with 50+ which I am told is a lot for man. I felt no specific pressure points under my feet. Very light weight and feel as if there is nothing on my feet but a cushion under them. The material around your foot is not to a specific shape so it kind of wraps around the shape of your foot. It did not run narrow or wide for me. Third thing I noticed were the lacing system. I have never seen anything like this other than on snowboard boots and they are somewhat different using wire with a twist lock. Very easy to lighten and loosen. Only after looking at instructions did I realize that the excess lace can be tucked into the tongues small pocket. At this point I started running around my house somewhat to make sure the sizing was correct and the grip on my carpet was incredible. After actions report: So I have now worn these 2 times for 12 hours each day. These are amazing. Worth the money I spent. They never loosened throughout the day, I had no problems with extra lace flopping around. I ran on uneven terrain in the woods and in open fields. This includes grass, leaves, dirt/mud, very little water though. They held up great. The grip they get on quick stops and turns was amazing. My feet didn t hurt at the end of the day. It provided very good ankle support. The only con I could find was that on break (every 2 hours) I noticed the top of the tongue had tilted its way to the outside of my foot slightly. Not enough to notice and may have been because laces were not tight enough. I will have to try a few different things to test that theory though. Overall this is an incredible shoe and would highly recommend to anyone.

Excellent shoes. Fit is true to size. Nubs on the soles are quite tall, so there's a little movement when on pavement. But it's still very stable. I actually wore them once in a Crossfit WOD. Not recommended, but they held up very well. Of course, they're at home on the trail. Outstanding trail runners. I read other reviews that they're hot, but I don't think so... and I live in Texas!

Got these for the VA Spartan Super. How do you spell awesome? S-a-l-o-m-o-n F-e-l-l-r-a-i-s-e-r! Other reviewers indicated that water stuck around, but I didn't notice. I just noticed that I stuck everywhere my foot landed - Mud, grass, stone, mud, mud, mud...fantastic. Thanks.

I have never purchased a pair of any shoe online. So blindly purchasing a shoe for running trails knowing how important they are for comfort and injury prevention was a little scary. I usually buy size 10 to 10 1/2 depending on the shoe. Just to be safe I went with a size 10 1/2 with these and they fit perfect. I need arch support and room for my toes and this shoe provides both. I am 37 and have been road running for just over a year now. Not recommended for first time trail but I ran a very tough 8.35 miles in these yesterday (breaking in run) for my first long distance trail run (3rd total trail run to date). I have no pain or discomfort, just the typical feel of knowing I ran 8.35 miles from the day before. I also wore Swiftwick socks for moisture wicking and noticed the shoes were a little warmer than my road shoes. I did not have any hot spots and it was 83 degrees and very humid during my run. My main reason for purchasing this type of shoe is OCRs...and possibly use during softball season after they performed so well. Albeit one test run, I believe these shoes will work just fine. The only drawback I can foresee is drainage once submerged in water. For the price and my purposes I highly recommend these shoes.

My background in running: 12 or more miles a week. I ran in deep snow and there is good traction. I ran on asphalt and dirt. Landing impact on road feels smooth. Landing impact on dirt trail is smoother. I wear 11.5. The lacing system is awesome considering you don't have to worry about laces being untied. Perfect for beginners if you want to run trails. I feel they are semi lightweight. Design is okay. But all that counts was the comfortability, traction, and weight. That's why I recommend this product. It's a really good trail shoe.

Best shoe for extreme race/mud runs I have ever tried. Does not come off in thick mud due to lace system, and traction on all surfaces was top notch. Better yet, they survived to run another day. Highly recommend.

Excellent shoe, and tremendous traction. Plenty of room in the toebox for a such a narrow shoe. Wore within a week of purchase for an off road race of 12 miles with over 1500 vertical feet of climb/descent. No issues with blisters or black toe despite significant downhill. Highly recommend.

This shoe is incredible for obstacle course racing, trail, and mud runs. It's built like a tank too. They've survived a Tough Mudder, a Gladiator race, and a boat load of other runs. The only thing I added were different insoles. Bigger toe box than the Speedcross. Better pricing for me than the Fellcross 2's. I like the drop of the Fellcross 2 better, but I can live with these.

I got the Fellraiser a couple of weeks ago and they have been a stand up shoe. The shoe is built like a battle ship. I have been only wearing Saloman shoes for the pass 3 years due to the fact they do what they are made to do. The Fellraiser has great traction on the trails or just walking around the mall. The toe box is perfect, the shoe has great breathing ability in the toe box you can feel cold air enter the toe box on the top of shoe, the quick laces are great and no hot spots on the foot at all. Would buy another pair when the time comes and would tell a friend about them for sure.

Flexible sole, lightweight. Good alternative to the Salomon Speedcross. These run small compared to the Salomon XA PRO 3D, I had to order the next size higher in the Fellraiser.

I use these shoes as an alternative to cleats or turf shoes while officiating a field sport. When officiating, I am often working up to 8 hours per day on the field. MY feet felt really good at the end of the day. The lower drop between heel and toe I think helps that. I normally wear wide women's shoes and regular men's shoes. These felt a little on the narrow side (mainly in the toe box) for a man's shoe, but not enough to make them unwearable. I will buy them again when this pair wears out.

Like this shoe - feels a little "thin" at time in the insole - but great grip and you can really feel the trail - nimble shoe.

I have run consistently in Salomon XA Pro's since their introduction a decade or so ago. I normally run trails and recently decided that I should probably look for more appropriate footwear, as I tend to run more strenuous, treacherous trails than the XA s are really meant for: I wanted the added stability and confidence in step! I tried out both the Speedcross 3 and also the new Fellraisers. After playing with them both, I have decided on the Speedcross 3 over the Fellraisers. Here's my take and experience with them. I have what would be termed a Low-Volume foot I guess? Normal length, a bit narrow and just not that bulky. I have loved the XA Pros since I put them on, they were the best-fitting shoe I had ever worn bar-none. When I began trail running it was the occasional jaunt up some random hills, and the XA's were more up to the task than any other shoe I'd worn before! However, recently I have begun running more, and the old guys were showing their shortcomings as I have hit more technical trails. Also, as I got more technical, I had to start cinching them down more and more. I also went down a half-size to stop my foot from sliding forward on steep declines. I also started doubling up on socks! I bought and tried both the Fellraisers and Speedcross side-by-side. For my style of foot, the Speedcross reigns supreme for fitment. At a 10.5, I have more room to cinch down than the 10.5 XA Pros, and that's wearing my skinny socks compared to my thick running socks on the XAs! Comparatively, the Fellraisers needed an extra half-size to accommodate length; I was wearing a size 11 to avoid bashing my toes. However, they were not as snug everywhere else as the Speedcross 3: too much wiggle room at my heel and my toes. So if you have a narrow foot, Speedcross. If you have a wider foot, fellraisers may feel better (and add a half-size). The Fellraisers were not as strong in the lateral stability department either. They tended to want to roll my ankle pretty bad compared to the Speedcross. The Speedcross felt very stable, even considering they have a higher heel/toe ratio than the Fells and very similar tread design. While I liked the tread pattern a little more as well as the harder compound, the lack of fit made it that these would not work well for my feet on the trails. Shame, I had such high hopes!
