Wore them trekking gorillas in the mountains of Uganda. Loved that they were short due to the heat enough height though to keep, the rain, mud and safari ants out.

Have been going birdwatching/hiking 2-3 times a week through known tick infested areas. These gaiters are an essential part of my tick repellent wardrobe. So far (knock wood) have not found any ticks on me.

The Bugout Gaiters help with defense against ticks. Pants still need to be tucked into socks as I learned. I combine gaiters over hiking boots with Insectshield pants, shirts, hat and sometimes socks. This ensemble seems to work with ticks and mosquitoes. I live near the Chesapeake Bay and shorts with socks and deck shoes definitely do not work for hiking.

These are perfect for hiking with confidence that I won't come back with Lyme disease, or some other dread bug-borne crud.

I am a landscaper and have worn these gaters for the past year for work. They fit well and my only complaint is that on a very hot day, they make me a bit hotter. They are easy to put on and make me feel that I am at least doing something to keep the ticks off. Do they work? I don't know for sure. Since I am often on my knees and sitting in the grass, I can not know how often they have helped me. I do spray my clothes with Deet and I have only had a few tick bites, although there are lots of ticks where we live. I would recommend them, particularly for people who need them for hiking and do not spend time sitting in the grass.

I work in the woods, and I've been wearing these gaiters through three summers. They are just now wearing out, after dealing with briars, barbed wire, branches, and other abuse. Ticks are a major issue were I work and these go a long way towards protecting me from them. They are easy to put on, stay in place all day, and are so comfortable I usually forget I'm wearing them and keep them on until I get home on accident.

Great gaiter. Easy to put on and take off, high quality, and durable. Backpacked almost 100 miles on the AT in Virginia with these during tick season. I didn't have a single tick on me, I'm sure in part because of these great gaiters. I also have OR Rocky Mtn. Low gaiters in black. For some reason, the Lows breathe a little bit better than these. Maybe it's the permethrin. That's why the four stars under comfort. I like the color too, but they do show dirt a little more than my black ones. Really an excellent product. Highly recommended by a guy who's backpacked almost all my life.

My husband and I bought these for our trip to the boundary waters. We have had issues in the past with black flies getting in the canoe and pestering our ankles and feet till the little buggers get a piece of us! The flies were not as bad as feared. The gators worked well in protecting our ankles from chiggers and flies. However, the flies knew where the gaters ended and would bite through the mesh in our shoes. Also the gators would fill with water and slip down on our legs when getting in and out of the canoe at portages. These did not work well in water situations. Knee high gators would have worked better for us in the BWCA.

I only gave 4 stars because it's a little difficult to quickly line up the velcro without a few "bucklings" which "could" allow ticks through. I'm used to my well worn OR winter gaiters that must be about 20 years old and are more form-fitting and rigid and easier to quickly Velcro. Otherwise, you forget they are on and don't have to worry about tick entry from below or gaps between socks and pants!

I'm about to purchase my third pair of these. First pair was excellent in every way. Hiked couple hundred miles (day hikes) in desert and held up fine. A lot of walking across lava flows and jagged rocks finally wore out the straps. Duct tape gave me another 50 miles (redoing after each hike). Second pair lasted not near as long. Strap broke by around 100 miles. Also, second pair, the elastic at top didn't snug as well as first pair so kept drooping. Same size each time of L. Gonna try one more time. Rec: use cord instead of strap and make it replaceable (I know that may cut into ur bottom line). Better elastic at top or maybe adjustable cord inside of the gaiter itself instead of the Velcro latch which limits its adjustability around the leg. Gonna purchase a third pair. If only does as well as second pair then on to something else. Having said all of that, I like this product and for "normal" hiking, I think it would be excellent.

I have just started using these dugout gaiters this fall as the ticks are beginning to get active again! Nice to slip on over shoes when putting on full "tick clothing" isn't necessary. So far so good!

I wear these gaiters anytime that I am out working in the field; an essential piece of gear for me. Easily keeps my pants tucked in all day to protect me from getting ticks underneath them. Having picked up Lyme disease in the past, I do not take my chances with those dirtbag ticks. The weak link in the design is the bottom strap, it is not nearly as durable as my other OR gaiters. After time, the strap will blow out and this piece is not interchangeable (if it were OR could just send me a new strap).

Please refer to my photo (attached). I purchased these approximately 3 months/90 days ago (approximately 13 weeks). They have been worn about twice a week or approximately 26 times for about 5 hours at a time or for about 130 hours. I use them while photographing butterflies in hot weather in Georgia and in Florida. I love Outdoor Research, but to be honest, these BugOut Gaiters are already falling apart. I like the overall design. These are the second pair I've partially destroyed. They are fairly easy to put on and to take off. I just wish they were more durable. The velcro backing is coming off. The material is getting kind of shredded. The stretch bands at the top are kind of getting very loose. Outdoor Research: Beef these up a bit and send me a pair of the proto-types and I will wear-test them for you.

When I wear shorts, the gaiters slouch and bunch up around my ankles. It is awkward and uncomfortable.

I bought these gaiters to keep debris out of my boots when hiking. The area where the velcro overlaps at the ankle was so hard and thick that it dug into my leg making them unwearable.

I have very large calves, and these will not stay up and are there is no way to adjust the tops. Very bulky, flair out even when pulled up the leg. Very rigid and noisy when hiking. Wish I could return them for a refund!

As some other reviewers found, the fit around my calf was a problem. I ordered a large (based upon my shoe size) but it was too loose around my calf and kept sliding down to my ankle. I ended up returning them.
