I love these boots. They're beautiful and well made and just perfect. Except for Frye's seemingly incomprehensible idea that 15" constitutes an extended calf. The shaft of these boots is narrower than some non-extended boots I've tried on. It's disappointing for us ladies with real calf muscles, especially because for the cost I'm not willing to experiment with a cobbler to see if maybe we can stretch them another inch to make them comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, these are going back. Seriously, though - these are in no way extended calf and they're going to miss out on a lot of market share if they can't figure out how to make these boots to fit athletic women with non-stovepipe legs. Such a disappointment.

My calves are 16" with jeans on. These boots fit great around my calves, not tight, not too loose. Unfortunately I have some problems with these boots. First, they way they are cut in the back, they go out like the shape of your calf, but then they curve back in at the very top. I still have about 2.5 inches of calf above that, so my calf bulged out and then back in. It looked very odd. If only the boots went straight up that last little bit they would look great! The second problem was inside on the footbed, where my heel ends and my arch begins, the boot has this ridge, so your heel is sort of cupped. I found it to be uncomfortable. The third problem was one of the boots I got was much narrower in the ankle than the other one, and very hard to get on and off! I'm pretty disappointed because they are just totally gorgeous and I've been wanting them for years! If the boots just had one of those problems I think I would have kept them, but I just can't pay this much for a pair of boots that aren't perfect. Back they go, sniff sniff.

I love these boots. I wasn't sure how they would fit because for the circumference it said 16" and my calf measures 16 and 1/2". At first when I tried them on I wasn't sure because they were kind of tight but I've had them a week and they have stretched out perfectly and I wear them with everything! Definitely recommend these gorgeous boots.

Okay, I love Frye boots and the Melissa buttons are no exception. I do not, however, love the inconsistency with the sizing of Frye boots. You literally need to try on your normal size and a size down and then when you're pretty sure what size, I would recommend trying on several different pair of the same size to get the right fit. I have the Melissa buttons in both black and cognac. My size in the black is an 8. The cognac size 8 was too big so I needed to size down to a 7.5. Just doesn't seem right to me when they are the same boot and same leather, just too different colors. As for the fit, I am 5'1" and these hit about 2 inches below the knee. I am slender but have very muscular 16" calves. These fit perfectly. Hope this helps...I love my Fryes, but get very frustrated trying to find the right size with the obvious inconsistencies and lack of uniform sizing.

I received my boots today and they are really beautiful. That being said, I'm on the fence on whether I'll be sending them back. I ordered the Extended Calf in Cognac, size 7. Normally, wide shaft boots are really loose on me (my calves measure 15.5") but these were really tight and bagged at the ankle. The foot part fit great, though. I had planned to wear them with skinny jeans but there is no way that will happen unless I can find a cobbler who can stretch the shaft.

These are beautiful boots, but do not work for me. I have 17" calves and these are too tight. This is totally the style boot I've been looking for, something dressy or casual, but these are not the right boot. I was hoping to find something that my jeans would tuck into, but not these, which is too bad, because the boot is awesome. This is the 2nd pair I've tried, so hopefully, third time is the charm.

These boots are gorgeous, there's no doubt. However, it is rather perplexing that Frye lumps them into the same extended calf category as the Veronica Slouch and the Jane 14L. I have both of those boots and they provide me with plenty of room in the calf area. These boots (extended calf, cognac, 6.5) were extremely tight in the calf and bagged at the ankle. It's unlikely that I could get them on over skinny jeans, so back to Zappos they go. What a bummer.

Hi ladies, I can't help but notice all the comments on these boots being too small for wide calves. I have very muscular calves and there are two things you can do. Leather stretches so you can put the boots on and wear them around the house. I prefer this because I notice that sometimes wide calf boots are too big in the ankles. Hope this helps.

I absolutely love these boots and get tons of compliments every time I wear them. I have a short, wide calf and have had an impossible time finding boots that fit, but these fit the bill perfectly. I love them so much that I just ordered the same pair in black.

Wide calf ladies..buy mens sizes. I have been very hapy with my Frye mens boots and there is plenty of room to tuck pants in to. I love my Frye's!

Holy cow are these shoes comfortable! I have wide calves which is why I went with the extended and they fit perfectly- even with pants tucked in! I am normally a size 9 but they were a bit snug so I went with a 9.5. While they are a bit large (definite space in front of the toe) they are so comfortable and fit so well otherwise that it's barely noticeable. The leather is unbelievably soft and I am so happy I finally bit the bullet and purchased these!

I originally ordered these in my usual size (which is a 6.5-7) but had to return them for a smaller size because my heel wouldn't stay in the boot even with thick socks. The calf diameter was nice for me (average calves, 130 lbs) to be able to fit over my jeans. My only complaint was that after sizing down half a size one boot fits perfectly and the other one is a little narrow (although I have narrow feet) and I will probably have to have it stretched in one spot.

These are my favorite boots. I bought them in black because I love them so much. I don’t have super wide calves, but they’re not skinny either. I don’t think these would be great for someone with very wide calves.

I wanted to love these SO BAD but the truth is, even after sizing down, my heel was slipping all around in this boot. I really want to keep them as they are a very high quality nicely made boot and exactly what I was hoping for, but I have to return them.

These are without a doubt the nicest boots I have ever tried on or purchased. They are embarrassingly expensive, but , for good reason! I love them. I can’t speak for durability because they are new, but I trust the brand. The only reason I gave 4 stars for comfort is because they are not easy to get on. I have decided they are worth the trouble! They come off easily. My entire closet smells like nice leather!

I ordered the extended calf after receiving the regular Melissa and finding that the calf was snug. The extended was very comfortable! The shaft wasn’t much longer on the extended than the regular. I am 5’1” and the top of the boot hits about 1.5 inches from my knee. I ordered the cognac color. It is beautiful. However, I am partial to slate. It can be worn with black or brown. I’m happy with my purchase and the Zappos customer service is amazing!

I love, love, love these boots. They are beautifully made and ready to wear out of the box. Each time I wear them I receive so many compliments. For your reference: my calf circumference is 14.5 but I needed the extended version in order for it to be truly comfortable.

Received my Frye Melissa Button in Cognac yesterday. What a great color. Classic and timeless. My 15 1/5 calves fit just fine in these boots.I know these boots came out years ago and now the extended calf version. Very comfortable to walk in. Great buy!

I searched for way too long trying to find a less expensive version of these boots but in the end I just couldn't find any I liked as well, so I splurged and bought these. They are worth every penny, the leather feels lush and looks high quality and they are so comfortable. I have always had muscular calves that make finding boots difficult, but these slipped right on, even over skinny jeans. They can be dressed up or down and they really are the perfect boot!! So pleased with them, and the quality makes them worth the price tag.

Another great shoe from Frye! Because of the steep price of these boots, I had to make sure these were the ones to get. After several weeks of surfing the web and deciding which pair to buy, I finally made the decision to buy the extended calf size of the Melissa button boot. Like all Frye shoes, the shoes and construction are top quality. It is a classic, versatile boot that can be dressed up or down. I am 5'2" with very short legs and wide calves (13" at widest part). I tried the regular Melissa button boots in a store and the shaft hugged my calf comfortably. The extended size is roomier and allows me to wear with tucked-in jeans very comfortably, which I probably could not do with the regular Melissa button boots. My only complaint is that the heel of the left boot cut into my ankle bone a little, nothing that a band-aid and breaking-in won't fix. I love these boots and I think they will last me for many years.

The boot was labeled EXTENDED shaft but I have the same boot (not Extended) in brown that I bought directly from Frye and they fit exactly the same. I don't think this shaft is wider. Happy I took the risk and ordered it. Fit me perfectly
