I bought these boots in August and initially was very pleased, they look good on the foot and the leather is a rich color. The foot bed is very comfortable. However, I found the edges of the tongue were abrasive; I expected that to get better, but after wearing them multiple times, the more I wear them, the less tolerable they are. The tongue slides all around and the back is not leather; there is no way to secure it so it goes sideways and slides down protruding out the bottom of the laces, which is both unattractive and aggravates the discomfort. I have tried tying them tighter, but that just hurts more. I wanted them as my go to Fall and Winter shoe, and at the cost, I bought them thinking they would serve me for years- no way. In the 90s I picked up a pair of Doc boots second hand that I wore for years- they were exceptional. The quality of these pales in comparison. The remarkable and amazing thing is I contacted Zappos yesterday- knowing of their exceptional service I figured it couldn't hurt- and because I am a VIP member (whatever that means) the rep offered to go outside of their normal return policy and allow a full refund! A Thanksgiving miracle! You can do better than these boots, but you can't do better than Zappos customer service.

Just what I was looking for!! Color matches what you see here. The stitching is nice!! Black grizzly looks good. I too thought maybe a little cheap on the collar, and the leather is different but it doesn't bother me... they are comfy. Been wearing them for a few days and they just keep getting better. It's been a while since I bought docs and they have changed but they did NOT disappoint!! The tongue is fine for me, perfect in fact. I know what other person means about tongue sliding around. Had that issue on some old docs. However these things are solid! Standard doc sizing, which is roomy the way I like it.. I wear a 11US/10UK.

I purchased the Barnie in Black and also a pair in Brown. Although they were not a 5-star comfort right out of the box, I enjoy that with my orthotics or The Walking Store insoles, they are very comfortable. They are not stiff like most of the leather Docs and can be dressed up or down. I have had no issues with the tongue. I would love to see these offered in suede as I found them trying to replace a pair of blue suede chukkas. So, please, let's see offerings in suede.

These shoes are amazing! They are comfortable right out of the box! They are run a little wide in the toe box, but I like that as it doesn't cramp my toes! You might want to wear some thick socks as I have to pull the shoe strings tight to have them fit my ankles.

I have been looking for a comfortable pair of brown boots. I was so pleased when I saw these in the Doc Marten's inventory, and most pleased when I laced them up and they fit like a glove: roomy toe box, comfortable, and lightweight. Plus, no stiff boot requiring a painful break in period like a couple pair of Doc oxfords in my closet. Also, I wear orthotics which fit nicely after easily removing the liner.

I got these for my husband. They have a great look and they are very comfortable. My husband says they might as well the most comfortable that we have purchased in a while. He is very happy with this purchase.

The shoes fit great. I am a standard size 12 and these fit my feet just fine. I wear orthotics and don't have any issues. Shoes are conservative enough for the khaki office environment while allowing me the cool factor of Docs. My inner 80's child digs the shoes.

I've worn Doc Martens for years, and have always dreaded the break-in period (which is worth it, but still no picnic). I bought these to replace the low-quarter boots that finally lost their tread (after 13 years of loyal service). Imagine my delight in discovering that this model is *comfortable right out of the box*! No rubbing, no blisters, no breaking in. My new favorite model. Fit is true to DM size; the toe area is a little wider than the other DM boots, but still looks just fine. I recommend for DM wearers who can no longer handle the break-in period of our youth.

This is very comfortable shoes. Feel great, keep my feet dry and warm which is during this year (2014) in NY. Perfect for daily winter wear. I use US 9.5 order UK 8, just perfect. Highly recommend.

Out of the box these felt as though they were made for me. The fit and finish is excellent. They feel light but are very well made. These are my first Dr Martens and I am a fan.

Perfect shoe fit! A lot better than what I expected. The color was even better than the way it looked on the website. I definitely recommend this pair to anyone looking for a Doc Marten shoe. Thanks Zappos.

I've always looked for comfortable & durable shoes... fashion & looks are not on top of my list... I love these shoes, they're the first pair of Dr. Martens I've ever owned. They're super comfortable, durable & look great. I wear them almost everyday to work. I don't have to worry about what I'm doing at work so they don't get damaged & yet they're ready if I'm meeting with clients.... Great shoes... I highly recommend them.

Loved my old Doc Martens which were solid for over 6 winters and totally water proof with mink oil. These are a little thinner, less cushion in the foot and slightly more narrow in the toe...which requires a little breaking in if you have a wider foot as I do. If you are on the cusp with British sizes, go larger. Seal right away with favorite water proofing. They seem to do well in the water and sleet so far. Ask me again in 6 years. Very stylish though...if that's your worry.

I wear these shoes in the kitchen. I have them on for aboht 10to12 hours a day. I did not need much time to break them in. Yoh might need to put an insole in the after 8 hours feet do hurt a bit. I find this in all shoes. Great show I would defintely consider them.

I wear a size 13 US, and these have a serious orthopedic vibe to them in that size. Too bad, because they felt very comfortable when I tried them on (perhaps the two are related).

Construction of these shoes is a bit basic compared to others. The soles are not as comfortable as advertised; they are good, but not great. The fit of the length is true, but I have to cinch the laces all the way for them to feel comfortable (this may be a consequence of my very flat, albeit normal width feet). My biggest complaint is that the toe box is a little shallow for a chukka (there is almost no room to wiggle toes vertically). On a positive note style is good and leather requires no break in. For a similar price I have bought much more comfortable shoes from other manufacturers such as Clarks or Naturista. These are not terrible shoes. I just thought they would be better.

Very disappointed. I am a bartender and am on my feet a lot. I bought these to treat myself and upgrade from "cheaper" work shoes. I have another pair of Docs from almost TEN YEARS ago that are still going strong. These fell apart after SIX MONTHS!!! These are not the dr martins you remember. Thin sole wore through and water started in to my foot. On both feet. They were very comfortable though. Just don't expect your money's worth. I've had DSW work shoes last longer for a fraction of the price.

Meant for fat feet. Only gets snug on upper arch, but loose below. It is obvious just by looking at the shape of this shoe, that curve from the top of the tongue to the toes is unnatural. But they invoke the London in one.

They just don't make them like they use to. First pair of Doc's I had lasted me 6 years of work abuse. I've had my current pair of Barnie's for 5 months and I'm already receiving severe sole wear and cracks. The shoes fit great and look even better, but I'm now hesitant to purchase a pair of Doc's that aren't made in the UK.
