I am a trail runner and bought these shoes mainly for the Spartan race. I wanted something with an aggressive tread to handle the mud and slippery surfaces. Ia m very pleased with my purchase of the inov-8 Mudclaw 300! To me, these shoes did not need any break-in time, I actually ran 10 miles with them when I first got them and they felt great. The traction, flexibility, comfort and fit exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend them for any mud race and I am going to continue to use them for my trail runs in any type of weather condition. The shoes performed awesome in the Spartan race and I didn't slip/fall once. If you want/need a little more support and cushion in the shoes, I would recommend using your own type of insert.

These shoes were designed for fell running, but they've quickly gained a following in my sport, practical shooting. We do a lot of sprinting between multiple shooting positions on a variety of loose surfaces, from sand to mud to rock. Because we're often starting and stopping in marked boxes, we have to be able to both start off quickly and stop without sliding, all while looking at targets and not our feet. The Mudclaw 300's have been great for this purpose, and they've led me to retire the trail running shoes I used to use in competition. The aggressive rubber spikes bite into soft surfaces and the sticky nature of the rubber helps to hold onto hard, slick surfaces like rock. I wear a US 11 usually, and based on the inov-8 guidelines I bought a pair in UK 10 size. At first I thought they might be a little snug, but once I had worn the shoes a few times I decided they were just right for a form-fitting, lightweight shoe. Altogether, I couldn't be happier with them.

Bought the Mudclaw 300's for the Super Spartan race at Mountain Creek two weeks ago, and I couldn't have been more pleased. Had run two prior Spartan races in standard running shoes, and the Mudclaws made a huge difference! Grip was amazing, even on steep muddy embankments. Everyone else was slipping and I cruised right on up. Great traction on rocky trails and for scaling obstacles. Washed up great, and ready for the next one! I did get blisters on both heels during the last two miles of the 8.5 mile race, but I attribute that to the cotton socks I was wearing. Next time will try non-cotton running socks. Shoe has limited arch support - some people might prefer to buy inserts. With the steep trail terrain I did not find the minimal arch support to be an issue. These shoes are a no-brainer for a Spartan type of race.

I bought these shoes specifically for mud obstacle course racing and was extremely pleased with their performance their first time out! I climbed muddy banks and hills with ease. The drainage was terrific. The only difference between these and the X-Talon seemed to be that these don't have a grip on the inside of the foot for rope climbing. If I had known that, I'd probably have ordered the X-Talon. However, I'm happy with these for the time being and the investment.

I am a competitive, practical pistol shooter, and I go to competitions all over the USA. The ranges that hold these competitions are outdoors and the footing can be sand, hard packed dirt, rocky dirt, or grass. Canceling or postponing a match for rain or snow is often not an option, so I must run & gun in mud, snow or slick grass if that's what the weather is that day. I have found Mudclaws to be the perfect shoe for my sport. They are comfortable from the 1st time I put them on and are still comfortable when I take them off after being on my feet 6-8 hours later. Most importantly-they provide excellent traction & support. THEY KEEP ME SAFELY ON MY FEET even in the most muddy and slippery conditions. This is my 2nd pair and I couldn't be happier with them.

I bought these specifically for doing deep-mud off road races like the Tough Mudder and those like them. Traction: I can say safely that no one else I encountered that day had the traction that I did. Where others had to slide down hills, I ran down them with confidence. Where folks were slip-sliding up hills, grasping at trees and shrubbery, I just run up with very little sliding. Cleanup: They cleaned up very nicely with a hose, and even moreso after the major mud was off with a quick trip through the washing machine. Fit: They are a bit narrow, so I can feel them rubbing the balls of my feet, but it is not overwhelming. Support: For me it was lacking, I needed more arch support. So, I went with some inserts and was done.

Awesome shoe. Similar to other Inov8's, it is not quite a 1/2 size longer than other brands. Plenty of width also for our family's wide feet. Great combination of lightweight shoe and moderate stability. Very sticky soles make it great for winter trail running. I have used other Mudclaws for running through snow all season long. Upper materials hold up better than other brands to the aggressive environment of running through deep crunchy snow.

Shoes where awesome for the Tough Mudder. They almost never slipped in the mud and had a ton of traction. I really liked them and they were a big advantage. I will have to maybe reglue the toe on one as it is starting to peel back a little.

I am a huge fan of obstacle racing. I've done Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder and Spartan Races, one of my biggest issue is finding the right pair of shoes. I've try New Balance minimalist and it doesn't have any support. When your deal with different trails you need support and traction. I've try the MUDCLAW and fell in love with it. I did the Spartan Beast 13+ miles of hills and mud, I never felt better. It had great support and I felt I could run in mud for along time. I'll recommend this shoes to anyone. Love them.

These shoes lives up to their name for traction in mud. They are the best that I have had in greasy clay or mud bogs. They are excellent anywhere the cleats can sink into the substrate. The grippy sole has been exceptional on wet moss covered rocks. The cleats are noticeable when on solid ground and rocks resulting in some squirm. Overall they are very good in technical wet/muddy trails. A slightly less agressive outsole with the same compound would make excellent all around shoes for the trails that I run in the northeast.

I bought these for participating in Spartan obstacle course races. So far I've used them in five Spartan courses ranging from the Sprint to the Super. The aggressive rubber nubs on the bottom are fantastic for climbing up the muddiest, slipperiest hills without sliding. The problem with the cleats though is that they do not shed the mud, it feels as though you've strapped on five pound weights after exiting any mud obstacle. You have to stop and run your fingers across the bottoms in an attempt to rid yourself of at least some of the trapped debris. Another problem I've found is that when they are wet and clogged with mud and you're running to the next obstacle, my ankles have tended to roll. I think this is because the heel is very narrow and high while the upper support is minimal. For my last Spartan race a week ago I switched to the Inov-8 Oroc 280 which still has aggressive cleats (they even have small tungsten carbide spikes) but they are spaced out more leaving more room to shed the mud. They performed great, seemed to shed water better (no squishing after exiting water obstacles) and to my surprise did not slip at all when running on rocks (I thought the tungsten carbide spikes might present a slippage problem across rocks). The only problem I had with the shoes was wearing them to Walmart before arriving at the race site - they're a bit noisy when walking across hard surfaces (don't do this at home!).

This shoe was really narrow I had to order in a half size larger than I would due to my toe gait width. That being stated for me the shoe was good for relatively flat running but on incline and decline, on the mountain, the size caused problems!

These are regrettably narrow. At the proper length, they were squeezing my foot in the toe box. They're also incredibly stiff, which is potentially a boon in a shoe meant to be placed hastily on rocky, uneven ground.
