I always wondered why people used these things, then I realized how much dirt collects in my boots. I bought a pair and no more dirt. They are comfortable, vent well, are a little silly looking but work great. As an aside, they are also great for keeping the grass clippings out of your boots when you mow the lawn.

These gaiters work great for mountain biking, light weight and durable, very useful when riding though tall grass and other woodlands where you want to avoid getting nasty seeds in your socks.

Lightweight, easy on and off, rugged. Talus hasn't got a chance! What's not to like. And now i am using them at home for mowing to avoid weed seeds. Fits in a pocket for those dirty descents off the mountains, etc. Worth the weight.

Great for backpacking when wearing mid-height boots or high top boots. Not great for running or shoes because they slip off the heel. I wear these under my pants when backpacking or on nasty hikes and their great.

Dedicated day-hiker for fun and fitness (lost 35 lbs in 3 months!). Anyway, with 4-5 hikes per week, with my boots and socks being stored in my trunk, I was getting a lot of leaves, bark, and dirt down the tops of my boots, which were rubbing my skin, and it was probably doing slight damage to the Gore-Tex interior of my boots. I decided to give gaiters a try to remedy this. I started with the Outdoor Research Bug-Out gaiters. The OR Bug-Outs work fine, but they seem like just too much fabric. They would get quite dirty and would often rub against each other. I decided a smaller gaiter was in order. I found the Black Diamond Talus on Amazon, and gave them a try. These work effectively. As mentioned before, I'm not using them for deep snow, just tree-related detritus wrecking my socks and boot interiors. The tops of my socks tend to extend 1" or so above the gaiters, which is fine, I'd rather have the socks in contact with my skin than the grippy top hem of the gaiters. Also, I think that my feet and ankles sweat more than they would if I weren't wearing them, but that's the trade off; at the end of a long hike, I would rather have sweatier socks than dirtier socks. As for the appearance: these do not cut a slim profile. They appear a bit boxy, but they do not rub together, and they DEFINITELY keep the junk out of my boots. I give them 5 stars overall, because they perform their function well. For comfort, I give them 4 stars, but honestly, are gaiters supposed to be comfortable? They keep junk out of my boots, thus keeping me comfortable. For style, 3 stars. These are not a fashion item, but they do look a bit boxy, I feel a bit dorky in them, but I'm out in the woods hiking. As mentioned these are slimmer/better looking than the OR Bug-Outs, that's for sure. I recommend the Black Diamond Talus gaiters. I may try an even tighter/slimmer gaiter, like a trail running gaiter, but for now, these work well and I'm satisfied.

living in south Dakota theres no shortage of extreme weather up here.So i purchased a set of these gaiters to keep the mud and water off the bottom of my pants,and they passed the test %100!!..i use them all winter long for icefishing,in which you are always splashing water on your shoes and pants and at the end of the day my bottoms of my pants were always dry..they are my go too in all of my outdoors adventures ..now if i was in 2 foot of snow id get the knee high gaiters but for what i do these talus gaiters are awesome.Great job done by BlackDiamond!
