This bag contains a lot of room. I'm a first year college student and I have a lot of books, papers, and my laptop (not a netbook) on top of all that. It can hold all of that and then some. The only thing is that if you fill the entire bag, it tends to fall away from you, but that can be fixed with the adjustable shoulder straps. It is a quality, heavy duty bag.

I am very happy with the purchase. It is exactly what I ordered. The dimensions shown with the product are precise and I am able to place into the backpack what I require, involving a laptop.

My teenage son needed a new backpack because his Swiss Gear Synergy Laptop Carrying Backpack broke in different places. My son has a 17.5 inch laptop that he carries around and it was just a bit too big for the Swiss Gear backpack (which seems sturdy) and eventually the backpack just fell apart. We researched and read the reviews here in Zappos about the Big Student and decided to try it. This is our first purchase from Zappos. We live in Hawaii and have limited places where we can buy backpacks in the middle of the school year. Being able to purchase online is just wonderful. We heard about Zappos from a colleague. Our order actually took quite a few days before Zappos was able to fill and get it shipped, but it was okay and the shipping took many a couple more days than if we were in the Mainland USA. When the Big Student backpack arrived, we took it out of the box and felt very dubiously about it. The backpack looked small, like a regular backpack. My son didn't even really want to try it but I urged him to try it anyway since it was here. Lo and behold! His 17.5 inch laptop went in so effortlessly. He could even choose between the very rear compartment and the compartment in front of that to store his laptop. All of us were stunned. He then put in all of his gear and like many reviews stated here -- everything fit! The amazing thing is, after he gets all of his gear in, the backpack still does not look big; it really looks 'regular.' He is very happy with his backpack, able to go to school without having to carry anything in his hands. We got it in black, his favorite color and it looks great. With JanSports' Lifetime Warranty, how much more can one want? Thanks to Zappos! A very grateful "thank you" for the free shipping, too. Will definitely be ordering from Zappos again. Mwah!

I love JanSport. This is the 3rd I bought. The first 2 were the smaller original versions. The first lasted 10 years and I still have the 2nd. I got this Big Student one is for my son for Christmas. He loves it and it has lots of room for all his school stuff. I hoping it will be tough enough for a teenager, so far so good.

I got this bag as a gift for my dad to use for work. He loves it, it's the perfect size.

I bought this for my son at his request, it is a replacement for the almost exact same back pack I bought him when he was in junior high school fifteen years ago. After taking him all through jr high, high school, college and beyond it had started to show some wear with a small tear close to one seam. As it has a lifetime guarantee I could have returned it to JanSport for a repair, I have done that once when another backpack failed after quite a short time, but after so long it would not be fair to do that. I don't want to put JanSport out of business as they make such good products! He felt it was time for a new one to use for his workout gear and decided on the 'forge grey', it is a good mid grey color, not too light. I expect this backpack to last as long as the first one, it is well designed and has enormous capacity. Reading my glowing review you might think I was paid for it - but I can confirm that I know no one at JanSport or Zappos and have not been asked/paid to make this report.

Great backpack! Very roomy for a busy high school student's life. Holds a lot of weight and is very resilient. The straps are cushioned well enough making it comfortable on the shoulders!

I absolutely love this bag! I have purchased many backpacks throughout the years and this one by far is the best. The bag is very spacious holding my extensive collection of binders and textbooks with room to spare. I have found that being a slender female and 5'4" many larger backpacks tend to look ridiculously huge on me. This bag does not appear overly big at all but still has enough room. There are a couple of smaller pockets for writing utensils and personal items, allowing me to keep organized. Some of the other Jansport models do not have a water bottle holder but thankfully this one does. There are many classic and trendy colors available making selecting one difficult. I would definitely recommend this backpack to high school students or anyone that carries around a lot of things. The price and quality of the Jansport Big Student is unbeatable.

I loved it I also loved how I got free shipping. I has two big pockets for books and binders n stuff and a pocket for your pencils and stuff to! The price wasn't to bad either since I got free shipping and like 5 pockets!

My 8 year old loves this backpack. Lots of pockets to meet all school and activity needs. I appreciate how sturdy the material and straps are. I will be purchasing another for my younger child.

I purchased the JanSport Big Student backpack in the black sketch dot color. I used this bag as a carry-on bag for a three day vacation to Disneyland. It fit all my stuff and was comfortable to wear walking around the park all day. It is heavy duty and had lots of pockets to store all the different things I needed like pens, maps, tickets, etc. The only con was that I wish there were two water bottle pockets (one on each side) but the good thing is that the existing pocket is big enough to hold two small water bottles or one big one. The straps are padded and durable with is also a big plus.

This backpack is for my daughter who is in high school. I got the Galaxy backpack. Different color and looks good. She has a very heavy backpack to carry and this is perfect. It keeps her organized and the straps do not dig into her shoulders. I'm happy with my purchase.

My daughter has used this backpack for 2 years now and it’s still in great condition. One of the only jansports that seems to have a mesh water pocket on the side.

Awesome, super cute backpack

This is the 4th year that I've bought these backpacks for my 3 kids. One is in middle school, one in high school and the last off to college! Over the years we tried different - more trendy - backpacks and they always deteriorated quickly and couldn't hold enough stuff. This Jansport Big Student has the capacity to hold several notebooks plus textbooks, and holds up. It's the perfect amount of space but surprisingly doesn't feel bulky or oversized.

My baby love this backpack, actually this is the 2nd one we've ordered and they last and have plenty of room. She's 11 years old in 6th grade with lots of books and she says its very comfortable. outstanding bag. perfect for a few tools

Very big and spacious for all your books. Is durable and has lasted me a long time. Bought this 2 years ago and it's still holding up well with all my books. It's simple but this bag does it's job well.

I loved this backpack! It’s honestly perfect. The only issue is that the zipper broke (because I got it in a door, so my fault) and they refunded me completely so also A+ to Zappos for being amazing all the time.
