As a stand alone down jacket, this lightweight gem from Marmot will hold its own in all but the most extreme of temperature conditions. I've used it in 10 -20 F weather and was kept more than toasty warm with its 900 fill power down & Pertex fabric. Combine the Quasar Jacket as your mid-layer with any decent outer shell, and you have great protection from the elements. Now combine the Quasar Jacket as your mid-layer with a highly technical, 3-layer Gore-Tex Proshell jacket and you have a Storm Fortress that will take you just about anywhere you want to go in the world and keep you toasty warm, dry, and light on your feet (this jacket is truly as light as a feather!). I am using the Quasar as my mid-layer with my Marmot Cerro Torre Proshell Jacket making my day treks, night hikes and weekend outings on rock & ice more enjoyable than ever before. And the features on the Quasar are just right to keep you moving forward in total freedom: angel-wing movement, plenty of pocket space with a napoleon chest pocket for your smart phone or iPod, and a drawcord hem to further seal out the elements. Marmot delivers once again!

I have to agree, no one makes a better down jacket than Marmot and this is the best down jacket on the market. Having said that though, every jacket has its place and this one does as well. This is not an activity jacket, this is a standing around staying warm jacket. If you were to wear this snowboarding, a tree branch could easily rip it apart. This jacket is super light weight, warm and compressible. There is no issue with down not filling certain areas of the jacket, who ever said that either reviewed a different jacket or is simply blind. There is not a better down jacket on the market. If you can afford it and actually find one, buy it.

It doesn't get better than Marmot. No one makes the quality to price ratio that they do. As for this jacket I have worn it in below freezing temps with nothing but a tee shirt and have remained warm. This jacket is ultralight though so be aware it will not keep you warm in 0 degree temperatures by itself. Its good for 20 degree.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
Not very puffy and seemingly well built and warm. However the arm holes were too high, leaving the upper torso feeling too restricted in movement. I am normally a medium in Marmot clothes and for a 'regular fit' this was too small.

Love the premise of the jacket light, down, and warm. Unfortunately the jacket didn't deliver. I held the jacket up to the light and could see right through it including where there was down and where there wasn't. Better options include the Patagonia ultra light and the Northface Super Diez (warmest option available. The jacket does look great though.
I'd also recommend:
Northface, Patagonia
