Make no mistake about it the new Salomon XR Mission are not necessarily running shoes. To label them as such might undermine the intent of the wonderful design team at Salomon. Weighing in at 14 ounces the Mission XR are far from the minimalist shoes that everyone seems to be pushing in today's marketplace. Trust me as a lifelong athlete, runner, Triathlete the minimalist trend is going to send a lot of innocent athletes to the Orthopedists over the next few years, that is unless someone has been secretly been injecting concrete and asphalt softener into the roads. The XRs are comfortable out of the box, with no noticeable adjustment period. The Salomon lacing system is incredible and allows for instant adjustment and fine tuning for the perfect fit. Since I have said they are not running shoes, what are they? The XR Missions are made for cross training they are particularly modified for serious fitness walkers. The comfort and support level are exceptional and work as equally well from sidewalk to trail. Incredibly, in this reviewer's assessment, the XR Missions are the best multi-purpose shoes to hit the market for quite some time. If you want running specific shoes go to Asics, but for everything else the newly minted XR Missions are perfect for the job.

Stop the bus! Riotously conspicuous, anonymity denied, your neighbors will see you from 1/2 mile distance. I use the North Face Women's Ultra 50 for trail running and use the Salomon XR Mission for about town. Comfortable, true to fit (I just scaled down commensurately on size), these sneakers are out-of-the-box fantastic. All pros, no cons, except a side note to commit no transgressions while sporting these kicks; the bobbies will have you locked up in 5 minutes.

Very soft shoe, very light weight and the tread on the bottom is true for trail walking or running.
Love the shoe.
I bought the shoe for my partner and looks hot on. :X

I am just waiting for the size 7½ to arrive. I tried the 8, the smallest size, at a local sporting goods store two days ago. The fit was good, support and comfort were right on! I did not buy the shoes because they were 1/2" longer, though it felt great. The width on these is D, I normally am 4E. I just want to try the 7½ to see how they fit. Hopefully, like the 8 or better.

What can I say about Salomon in general, but that I've become fanatical about their shoes for running on trails; and now in the city with the XRM. The fit, feel and look of them exceeds nearly anything else I am aware of.

I have had these shoes for a few weeks now and have been pleased with them. They feel lighter than some other Salomons that I have had before and they breathe better than the GTX trail runners. There is a trade off between the breathability and the front mesh letting in a little dirt. My only complaint is that the arches are a little high and stiff. They have eased up a little after about 15 miles on them but they still are not a perfect fit for my feet. Overall I like these shoes. They are also very cool looking.

The good: I like the weight, the lacing system and the fact that the heel/toe ratio is the same as my street running shoes. The bad: These shoes felt great walking around, but one design flaw appeared after doing some running in them. They have a stretch material incorporated into the upper in the forefoot, but the material does not connect at the midsole. Instead, there is stitching at the connection point between the upper stretch material and the midsole, right at the ball of the foot. The stitching caused rubbing and blistering for me. The midsole material also is a little too soft for a trail shoe; you feel a lot of the trial. Overall, decent lightweight neutral shoe with a couple of technical flaws.

These are super shoes. They are rugged, have an incredibly wide heel-base for stability, and the ventilation works great. For all this, the Missions are light (my 11½ shoes weigh 12½ ounce) and they just feel good on my feet. And I purchased them on sale! These are shoes that conform to your feet, so they will nor feel perfect until you have worn them for a while. Initially, wear thin socks so they mold your feet accurately. If you run or walk trails you will be happy with these shoes. The color is groovy and they look hot.

I had heard so much about these trail runners, so I broke down and bought them. These are very good runners. I've run trails and done some steep hiking with them. Good cushioning, lightweight, and great grip. Will buy again when and if they wear out!

Good shoe, true to fit. No break in needed. My first 4 mile run felt good on my feet and legs. Now, let's see how many months they last with me running in Afghanistan. Peace.

This pair is replacing a previous pair of Salomon trail running shoes I got at REI a couple of years back. I am not a trail runner but my podiatrist recommended them for my feet for walking. I wear them with my orthotics and they are great. These pair are very aerated in front so they are definitely not for windy or wet weather. For me, at this time of year, they are my gym shoes.

My second pair as work shoes. Stand in them all day, at the shop or out in the field. They are strong, durable and best of all comfortable even after 10hr days. Cant beat the lace up system. The soles are very durable. No problems with either pair. Love salomon shoes. I wear a size 10 in most shoes and found that a 9.5 is a better fit for me in this shoe.

I have been a Salomon shoe junkie for several years now. The XR Mission is super light, very supportive and elicits many compliments as its design and aesthetic is quite eye-catching. Originally purchased for indoor training, I have transitioned them into my everyday use at work and play in the rotation with my other Salomons. I would recommend this shoe to anyone looking for comfort, stability and durability.

Love these shoes! As a female with wide feet, they fit perfectly. They have great support and are very thoughtfully designed for the trail. After trying several (8+) other women's wide trail shoes, these Salomons have made me a believer. (Not to mention Zappos' returns are amazingly easy.) I most certainly will be ordering Salomons again!

I have these shoes in the womens version so when my boyfriend needed new running shoes these were my first pick. My review is mostly about the customer service. I ordered an 11.5 and they ended up being too small. I called to exchange them and they customer service was JUST AMAZING. They have a program called an advance exchange where they actually just send you out the new product before they get your returned pair and process it. They give you 14 days to get the returned product back to them. Just amazing. They lady that helped me, Mer, was just so nice and personable. This is why I continue to order from Zappos time and time again.

Received XR Missions super fast (next day). The shoe has excellent fit and breathability. I use these for OR work shoes, running around town and for running. Excellent utility shoe for everyday use or on the trails. I'm a size 10 but they run about a 1/2 size up, but they have a wider toe box.

I am a big fan of this shoe. I'm an avid runner with occasional rocky trail usage. The XRs are extremely durable and surprisingly, light weight. I have about 55 miles on these so far and they look like new. It took a run or two to really get them broken in, but I have used these on several 2hr trail runs with no issues. They dry quickly, absorb the sharp rocks, have a wide base and are very stable, the quick laces with great and tuck away into a pocket in the tongue of the shoe. Definitely not a minimal shoe, and not a big cushy shoe like the Hokas..kind of right in the middle. I was a big fan of the Nike Pegasus trail shoe; the XR Mission offers the same protection with less weight and a lot more response. It's a fantastic trail shoe. Will be using this to cross the Grand Canyon later this year.

Just bought these shoes the other day. They fit great and are now comfortable to wear. I know a lot of reviews said no break in time required but it took me a few time wearing them so soften and get used to the arch. I have very low arches on my feet so the first few times I did some long walks in the (5+ miles) my arches would be really sore. But after a couple long walks and some work out time with them and daily use they wore in perfect (or maybe my feet wore in to the shoe) overall a great shoe. I love the laces and how easy it is to tighten them. Also very comfortable on my bike. And when lifting at the gym.

Out of the box, on my feet, a short walk, and BAM! it hit me - the feeling of a great pair of shoes. Excellent ankle and lateral support, and the wide soles grip well. Good for trail walking, hitting the streets, and making people jealous that my shoes fit like a glove. Smart looking too. Materials and build look like they will last quite a while and take some all terrain punishment. Only thing I am uncertain of is the "quick laces". Bet they will get replaced with more trad laces. I certainly would recommend these to friends and everyone within the Zappos universe - but remember kids, everyone's feet are different. Nevertheless, they call me Happy Shoes.
