When I first started doing yoga I thought a mat was a mat. I had the inexpensive PVC mats and I was wearing them out every six months. So I upgraded to the Gaiam Sol Shakti mat in deep red which I absolutely love and would highly recommend. It changed and deepened my practice. I still have the mat and because it has started to wear down I went shopping for other brands out of curiosity. I tried three different Manduka mats - eKO light in Acai purple (this is a great travel mat but not enough support and density for my everyday practice), Pro in Black (this was extremely heavy and I was not willing to pack that to the gym even if it has a lifetime warranty) and the ProLite in Thunder (nice density, so-so color but I did not like the feel of the mat. It was too slippery for me plus after years of using PVC mats then upgrading to rubber I could never go back to pvc). Finally I tried the Prana Indigena Natural Yoga Mat in Plum. I love my Gaiam Sol Shakti so I was hesitant but I have become very attached to the Prana mat. I feel it is a thicker and bigger version of the Manduka eKo light but with more traction. I love rubber mats so I love the feel of it. It also measures bigger than a standard mat which to me is very nice. It is not too heavy, the smell was not bad at all, excellent traction, the wood grain design is very pretty and unique to other mats and I love the color. The only complaint I have right now are the foot marks it leaves. This may or may not bother some people but you can see where my feet were after every practice. They wash off easily with a damp rag and I have ordered Gaiam mat wash to keep in my bag.

I purchased this as a gift and it was well received. This is a nice step-up from less expensive mats; it is indeed well padded and there is virtually no chance of slipping hands or feet. I noticed no strong rubber smell and neither did the receiver of the gift.

I did more research and test drives on a new yoga mat than I did when buying a car. I wanted a mat that will last a long time and with stand my yogaisms. I like alignment, I am the weirdo that makes sure her mat is perfectly straight, I like a solid foundation; squishy, cushion not my thing. Considerations when committing to a real mat. Indigena mat is not as heavy as other natural rubber mats, the texture not slippy, smell; yes, but not so bad. I chose the Indigena because it is a bit lighter than the competitors of its class.

This is the best mat! The number one reason is that it has no smell! Most mats have a nasty rubber smell and are heavy. Also there is no slipping in hot yoga. It is at a great price too.

The plum mat is NOT the color in the photo! It's much much darker - royal purple maybe. Nearly black. Otherwise the grip seems fine and it doesn't smell too badly (like some natural rubber mats). It is super heavy. It's still totable, but the weight is unexpected.

This is a good mat, but the biggest drawback was that it was very heavy and bulky to haul around. It had great grip to the floor and was nice and long. I used it for hot yoga and when I washed it it would leak dye all over my sink. After about 6 months of use it started leaving sticky rubber tracks on the floor.

This mat is not slick nor slippery; it has an excellent texture. The only drawback for me is that it is a little bit too thin for my preferences. It is longer than other mats, which is nice because I am tall, though I notice people in class giving me eyes for taking up more mat space than expected. I think we'll all learn to live with each other, and at least it warns them that I'll be taking up a bit of room being almost six feet tall.

Disappointed to receive clearly used product with chalky feet marks on it. Color far darker the the bright hue pictured. Shipped in an ENORMOUS box that nearly fell apart at my door. Back it goes. Clever old print design, but you can barely see it.
