Great shorts for quality and I love having cargo pockets. However, the normal pockets seem a bit small and I had the tendency to have gear slide out of the pockets.
Overall great shorts, but I would caution anyone that works around water to use the cargo pockets and not the regular ones just to be sure that nothing goes for a swim by accident.

I ordered size 34" waist 12" inseam. The waist itself is correct but the shorts are just a bit too "form fitting" to be super comfortable just below the waist. They are a bit snug in the hips. The fabric is great and is perfect for the humid south florida climate; they dry fast and wick moisture away. If these were a bit more "baggy" they would be the perfect shorts.

I had to buy new shorts for vacation. I have no time for shopping, so I bought 4 new pair of shorts online. I love them & it took no time to find what I wanted or place the order.

I love how light they are. I sit in a scooter (handicapped) in the afternoons and these really are cool with this humidity. The length may need to be one more inch longer. May get that length next time. Will buy again and again.

Finally a company, that makes a short long enough for long legs.

I'm a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu, a subtropical island nation in the South Pacific. I feel air conditioning about once a week when I go into town and go explore the bush multiple times a week. Before leaving, I purchased 4 pairs of these shorts at a local department store: 2 grey, 1 brown, 1 green. Knowing what little I did before departure, I was looking for lightweight, stain-resistant pants. Additionally, I bought 2 pairs of Blood & Guts convertible pants which I wear almost exclusively as shorts. First, the pros and cons of the Silver Ridge shorts and then a little compare and contrast with the B&Gs.
Cons:
The inseam of one pair of my shorts split open within the first month of my service. As all of the others have held up I can only assume that I stressed an uncommon flaw in an uncommon way. Also, when sitting inside, these shorts do feel a bit long. My generation finds shorts below the knees to be fashionable, but in a hot climate it's really the shorter the better (within respectability). However, when riding in the backs of pickups or other situations where you must sit for long periods of time in the sun, long pants help to protect the thighs from sunburn.
Pros:
These are very lightweight pants and keep me cool. The mesh pockets have not been an issue for me and, I'm guessing, feel a lot better than cotton pockets sticking against the skin. I wash my clothes with an overnight soaking method here using tap water and laundry detergent in a bucket. I put them through a lot and they come out looking more or less like the day I bought them. I've been unable to remove the cuttlefish ink from one pair, but that's the only significant stain on my four pairs.
Against the Blood & Guts shorts:
I have not used the Blood & Guts shorts for their intended purpose: lots of fishing on a boat. But I do lots of things that get me dirty in a saltwater and tropical backcountry environment and I'd have to say that I much prefer the Silver Ridge shorts to the B&Gs for two reasons. One, the B&Gs are a significantly heavier construction and, two, the fabric seems to soak up grunge a lot more, making the B&Gs feel dirtier far quicker than the Silver Ridge shorts. The one benefit to the B&G shorts is the cut, for walking around in the backcountry they are the right cut: just a little above the knee and not quite so loose in the fit. I know it's pretty specific, but if I could get Silver Ridge fabric in a B&G cut, I'd say that'd be the perfect walkabout short on subtropical islands.

Comfortable, lightweight, full featured sport shorts. I have not had the opportunity to use them yet (too cold so far) but the quality appears to be there.
One minor issue is that they are only about 11.5 inches in length, not 12 as advertised.

I wish it had the two zippered pockets like the older style.

I'm very pleased with the Men's Silver Ridge Cargo Short. I just wish I could get them in the GRILL color with the 12 in. inseam.

The shorts are comfortable and true to size. I have only washed them twice so I cannot speak to durability. I would like the legs to be a little looser and it is a tad difficult to get the belt out of the belt loops.
Otherwise, I am very pleased.

These were great however the back pocket was not fully sewn and had a hole. Noticed it half way through the first wear when my husband's keys fell out of his pocket. Returning

Maybe this is just me, but I've had three pairs of these shorts and they all rip between the legs, sometimes quite quickly. I do a lot of hiking, taking me up fairly steep inclines so my legs do have to move quite a bit, but I was hoping these shorts would be designed to withstand hiking up hills.

I have a few pairs of these that are many years old and are still in good condition. I purchased two more to add to them and they are the same shorts but I can't see the new ones lasting for years like the older ones have. The waistband has a different material added to the inside that look thin and after one wash it shows signs of wear. The zipper on the left leg pocket is noticeably smaller and not as smooth to operate as the older ones. This zippers will probably be the first part to give out on the new pairs. We will see how long they last but it is obvious that the price hasn't changed for us to purchase them but the quality of product has gone down quite a bit.

Nice shorts, but the elastic panels on the sides are not long enough and consequently there isn't enough stretch in the waist.

Washed and worn once and the threads are already coming undone on the right rear pocket which had not even been used.
I don't expect these to last long without some TLC which is a bummer because I liked them so much I bought a second pair after the first day out on the river.
Great pair of shorts other than the subpar stitching.

I love the shorts for my husband. But when we opened to package, the shorts looked almost blue/white. Not gray at all. Other than that good shorts.

Shorts run a little small. I've worn 36 jeans with plenty of room for almost 15 years. These shorts in a 36, I barely fit them. I really wanted to like these shorts however I don't see myself wearing them or even bothering with a return. All of the pockets are mesh (think swim trunks) and I'm sure it aids in the fast dry capabilities, however it's not the most 'secure' feeling. The zippered pockets were the selling point but i was unaware I would be trusting my valuables to mesh on the opposing side. They would be good boat shorts or even beach shorts where you're most likely to get wet and not have pockets full of valuable items. Not my idea of great amusement park shorts. 12 inch inseam also seems a little short. I am over 6 ft and they just barely come to the knee. If you can visit a store that sells them I suggest trying them on first. The cost of shipping is very prohibitive here. More so considering almost all the reviews mentioned they are sized perfect. I find that is not the case. Definitely smaller than expected. Now I have to pay to return something that doesn't fit.

I have been using these shorts for occasional day-hiking trips. I decided to make them one of two pairs of shorts to be taken on a 10 day hiking trip.
On the 5th day of the trip, while simply trying to rebutton the main button on the shorts, the button pulled right out. This left me with only one pair of shorts for the rest of the hike with the only pair left being another of this same short in a different color. I was a bit worried. The second pair had no trouble and I sewed the first pair with dental floss while on the trail. The weak button had no unusual wear on it and was not damaged in any other way. It's just a badly designed button.

So I bought these for my husband ...The quality of the shorts is great, however the material is a little too "revealing" near the "zipper " region (it outlines everything....). We decided to keep them as around the house shorts.

Allways fold my shorts after washing. When I unfold these, they are badly wrinkled.

This is a nice, functional short but is narrow through the hip and doesn't have room for anyone with muscular backside or thighs. We returned them.

Inseam way too short. They should make the inseam long enough to cover the knee. Very very thin and light weight pants material. Mesh pockets.
