I purchased these aware of possible pitfalls of NON-authenticity, based on reviews here and on Amazon; The jeans are not denim. I already own a pair ordered in past directly from Levi's, which is made with true black denim fabric. The material on pants received from Zappo's is what I'd call a medium-weight black cotton similar to what you'd find in a pair of khakis, but definitely not black denim. Interestingly, both say made in Pakistan. However, on the plus side, the fit is same/similar to the 'real' 505's, and so I'm keeping them only because I need cheap black pants for work. Re: the fit - yes, these are perfect for me (size 10) - slender in hips and thighs, but a little extra room at waist, to accommodate a more middle-aged shape. But for others, that wouldn't work, as seen by some comments. Two stars, because these are NOT real black denim jeans. Fraud vs factory mistake? Hard to say.

The jeans were made of some terrible denim blend. Nowhere close to normal Levi’s material. They were a different color in one stripe down the front and looked cheap, cheap, cheap.

I wrote a previous review and said that these jeans were awesome. Well, after owning them for a few weeks now I have changed my mind a bit. They are only comfortable for one wear. They stretch out so badly after one day that they are literally falling off. If I could return them, I would. I probably need one size smaller just because of how much they stretch.

Nice jeans, but almost too "mom" like. A little higher rise than I wanted, but I think I'll keep 'em.

I love Levi's 505 jeans and have been wearing them for years. The problem is the sizing is all over the place. All my old 6's have gotten a bit tight (not Levi's fault!), and since one pair -- black in a size 8 -- fit perfectly, I ordered a new pair in size 8. They're too big. I'm keeping them, because they're not falling off me and I'm hoping they'll shrink some, but I won't order them again. If the size 6's are too small and the 8's too large -- well, I guess this model just won't work for me anymore. The inseam seems to vary more than it should throughout the range of 505 colors. I've found another model that fits very well, though the sizing is way off on that, too. I don't know what Levi's is doing with their sizing, but it makes no sense.
I'd also recommend:
Try the Levi's Perfect Waist style, but be sure to order 2 sizes up!

What can I say? I wanted plain non-stretch jeans and got them. And I didn't even have to hem them, a real plus for me.

These jeans fit well and are flattering on a person who has bigger hips and thighs, but relatively small waist, and is mid-rise with ample derriere room. The boot cut is moderate, perfect M length at 30" & attractive on someone like me, in 60's, 5'7" tall, about 150lbs. The fabric is all cotton (no polyester) except for the small amount of spandex but it is a little thin, more like the 11 oz denim, rather than the good old fashioned 14 oz weight denim I grew up with, which I would consider too heavy now anyways. I highly recommend these jeans, but they aren't built to last like the old Levi's or any other jeans, for that matter, these days.
I'd also recommend:

I wear only Levi's 505 jeans -- have for years. As others have said, I do wish they would make a "clean wash" medium blue color for the more "sophisticated" among us. The 505 style is great for those who are more "straight up and down", although I am seeing in the newer products a bit more roominess in the hips and thighs,so they do tend to get roomier as you wear them -- this seems especially true in some of the darker colors. The West Coast color seems to run smaller. Can't say for sure, as the different fits in the same style may also be due to the country where they are made -- All over the world, except the USA, it seems. Anyway, I still buy them, and take them in if necessary. I am a size 4, and a smaller size would be too short. Nice jeans, fair price.
I'd also recommend:
I only wear these.

I really disagree with the other reviewers. I think these jeans fit great. They provide a pretty classic boyfriend jean look without the butt sag that most mens jeans provide. They sit just below the belly button which is fine for me since I'm not proportioned very well for the low rise jeans. These do stretch out a bit after wearing them, but not enough to make a huge difference.

These are relaxed fit straight-leg Levis. Although I ordered a 12 short, I still had to have them hemmed, something I do not usually do in Levis. I was a little disappointed in the dye of the denim. It's more rustic looking than the photo...more like "old miner's" jeans. Very masculine looking. I will keep them and wear them around the house because they are comfortable, but I won't wear them out much. I much prefer the Levi 512.

Update to the review I wrote previously, as 'Anonymous': Although I wasn't happy about the fabric being unlike my original Levi's - didn't feel like true denim - I have to say that after multiple washings, the color and fit of the jeans have held up well. I haven't had the problem of the waist stretching out after washing (it is still a little roomy, but no more or less so). They look good and serve the purpose as pseudo-denim, jeans-like pants, so I upgraded my overall rating from 2 to 3 stars, and 4 stars for style.

I am very unhappy with these jeans. They fit great when I tried them on and a bit snug after washing, but I am good with that. But they stretch out so badly! They are awful. After one hour they are so big! And I couldn't return them because they were not in resalable condition. They are huge in the waist and gut area. I am very disappointed, I really wanted these jeans because it's hard to find a dark wash that doesn't have worn out looking spots.

I love these jeans. They have a boyfriend jean look with the softest most comfortable denium ever. I am ordering another pair in a different color. They do stretch out quite a bit between washings

I wear these as work pants so they get washed twice a week and the black color does not fade like other jeans. They fit well and are so durable. Thank you Zappos for the fast and dependable service. Levi's could not fill my order but you always deliver promptly and I can count on the ease of placing an order with you.

I found just what I was looking for. Zappos is the only retailer that I've shopped at that carries the Levi's 505 that are of the better quality denim, not that stretchy stuff. I am very happy with my purchase and will make future purchases.

These are not your mom's Levi's! I love these jeans! First, I ordered an 8 thinking that might be a little optimistic but hopeful regardless. Because Levi's now have some stretch, turns out I needed the 6! The fit is perfect and I'll be ordering more pronto!

I have a hard time finding long length jeans that don't sit to high up on my waist. These jeans are so comfortable and the look great with boots, sneakers or heels. They're awesome!

Wonderful jean except for the same problem with all jeans - the heft of the denim is just not what it was only a few years ago: it's now thinner and more stretchable. After the first washing they are a bit too short for me. Even so, they look great and I recommend them.

Simple. Easy. Comfortable. Not too mom-ish. Good for going casual when you don't want to wear your more expensive designer jeans.

I have ordered and returned several pairs of jeans to Zappos due to fit including failures with pricey NYDJ and Lucky Brand. I was cautiously optimistic when I saw these after not having much luck with previous attempts. I am 52 and don't want jeans that make me look like I'm trying to be 22. I am 5' 9" have a hips so I needed something that would have a little room in the seat and come in at least a 34" inseam. These are perfect. Perfect. I expected to need to hem them a little, but that's a small price to pay for having jeans that fit well, are fine for me to wear to my casual office, are age appropriate, and that I don't have to keep pulling down to get that extra half inch that I need. I will keep checking for other colors (all others are sold out in my size at the moment) but I'd highly recommend making a leap of faith and trying these. By the way, the only reason that I'm giving them 4-stars overall rather than 5 is because I'm reserving that last star for jeans that don't have any "worn" look to them. These have very little...but my quest is for none.

Snug at first, but then they stretch to a comfortable fit. Sizing is not consistent, sometimes I have to go a size smaller - I have learned to order jeans in both sizes to avoid the size issue. The material is rather girly for me, I usually wear these out rather quick with farm work. I would prefer Levi's brings back their hard core, stretch free 501 jeans (not the expensive boyfriend version they have, I would totally trash those in a day). Overall, When I find the size that fits, I am relatively satisfied for what they are. Other brands don't hold up as well for what I do on a daily basis.

These jeans are good because they are actually jeans and not a fabric that is trying to replicate Jean material. However the straight leg is very close to a boot cut I was hoping it would be a straight closer to a skinny. I got the wash with the really nice pocket detail on the back and the fading is really ashy gray around the knees not exactly what I was hoping for. I bought a 12 and 14, same sizes I've been trying on and other jeans and the 14s were huge and the 12s were very loose especially in the waist. I probably would've returned both sizes and got 10 but the 12 seemed to fit when I first put them on, but as I wore them throughout the day, they stretched out. I would definitely buy 1 to 2 sizes smaller than you normally wear.

Not a fan of these jeans. The fabric is way too rough, and, even using fabric softener and washing several times hasn't helped. The fit is okay.

I should have believed the other reviews. These jeans are junk. They get baggy after a couple of hours, and the fabric is not jean fabric, but feels weird. Due to the saggy fit and fabric, they just do not feel good to wear - almost uncomfortable. I will probably make work-in-the-yard jeans out of them since I can't return them. I bought them to replace my old 505's which fit great, but these are nothing like them. Save your money.
