If you follow everyone's sizing advice, you will get the right size the first time. Order one size up. Perhaps, like some of my favorite albums, these slippers took a bit to grow on me. I nearly returned them - had the label printed, box packed, and everything. What changed my mind was the other pair I ordered to try (the Haflinger AS Classic Slipper). What did I not like about the Giesswein Vents? Mainly, the arch support. I have flat feet that over-pronate when I step. The arches in these slippers is very high. Even though they are cushioned, to my flat feet, the arches of the slippers were all I felt. It almost felt as if all of my body weight was now being supported by the arches (or lack of arches) part of my feet and my toes and heels were hardly touching the ground. The arches of my feet started to feel bruised. (Spoiler alert, the arch support got more comfortable.) I seem to recall this type of discomfort when I tried orthotics as a little kid - I did not try them for very long. The other thing that I was not crazy about in these slippers is the outdoor bottoms. I only plan on wearing these around the house and would have preferred a soft bottom. Everything else about the shoe was/is great. They are breathable (i.e., my feet do not sweat at all in these, even after having them on for hours) and I like the style. The Haflingers I got, I first thought were better because they had a soft bottom sole and the inside of the bottom was boiled wool, like the rest of the slipper. The boiled wool on the bottom felt nicer on my feet that the leather/rubber inside bottoms of the Giesswein. But the Haflingers, despite being all boiled wool (which I thought would make them more breathable) made my toes sweat. The Giessweins did not make my feet sweat at all. The Haflingers kept feeling like they were going to slide off my feet because they are heel-less. The Giessweins felt nice and snug. After going back and forth and back and forth, the arch support of the Giessweins started not bothering me as much. In fact, after a while, the arches almost started feeling therapeutic, in a good way. Perhaps this type of arch support will be a good thing for my feet and knees. If so, what I have found is the near-perfect slipper (for me) and that will make them worth the crazy-high price. That, and the fact they appear to be very durable and should hopefully last me a very long time. Reviews said the Haflingers will only last about a year.

I absolutely love this slipper. I own Haflinger, Ugg, Acorn, Minnetonka and Woolrich - all of which are great . The Giesswein Vent is an Orthopedic experience - extraordinaire! It is the Mercedes Benz of my slipper experience. The arch support is wonderful and the comfort level is like walking on clouds. I am a Mens 9 and size 43 fit perfectly. I highly recommend this slipper!

Based on other reviews these slipper shoes come smaller than stated size, I ordered one pair one size larger and a second pair two sizes larger. Since I typically wear socks with my house shoes I ended up keeping the pair two sizes larger. I love them! The upper is soft wool and the soles are sturdy and will wear well. The insole can be removed and replaced with your own personal one if desired but I like the height of the arch and am keeping the insole. I expect these to provide me with many years of wear as I work from home and they are my primary daily footwear.

I bought these slippers because I was unable to find the Orthaheal slippers that I like any more. These slippers have worked out very nicely. The removable insert has a nice arch support that is made out of a firm jelled rubber and has a nice feel (you could replace with your own support if you wanted.) The wool is soft but very warm. Side note: I am a pretty solid size 9 and have been for years. When I ordered these slippers I ordered a size 9 and my toes are at the very tips of these slippers. I can ware but I think I would have been happier with and size larger.

The sizing on these are off. A women's 42 does not equal an 11. I followed Zappos sizing guidelines and sure enough, when I got them they were a size too small. So order up a size or use the size of another European shoe that you wear. Overall, the slipper was very comfortable and I liked that you could remove the insole since I have orthotics and bad feet. However, the insoles that came with the shoe were so comfortable I don't think I'll even need to use my orthotics. The shoe has lots of support in the footbed. The only things I didn't like about the shoe was that it is way too wide, I guess because these are unisex. Also, they are not very stylish. I wish there was some fancy embroidering or something like on Smartwool slippers. But if you are just wearing these indoors, comfort beats style so I don't really care that much.

Really well made. Excellent arch support (I have high arches). Almost impossible to get in (I have high instep). Runs short.

Would be a great shoe if size was correct. Ordered size 14 and it felt very uncomfortable at the toes. I have a foot size of 12, this shoe feels 3 full sizes smaller. Very unfortunate!

This is my third pair of these shoes and while I love the comfort they are no durable. The first two pairs were returned after less than a year because the wool separates from the backing on the top of the shoe and it becomes a hole, not from the inside out but on the top. They are simply stretching the material too tight on the outside and it separates from the backing. I ordered a size larger this time thinking that was the problem but it happened again and they are much too large and hard to keep on my feet. I need the arch support because of tile floors so not sure what I am going to wear. I do wear them everyday, but strictly inside.

I'm thrilled with my Giesswein made-in-Austria Hausschuhe (house slippers). They are on different plane from vendors like L.L. Bean or Cabela's. Giesswein's higher price is more than justified by the comfort, ergonomics, materials, durability and appearance of this superior Hausschuh.

I always have to wear shoes in the house with my orthotics. Thought I would try these slippers for the winter. The best thing I have ever bought. My feet are pain free. My feet are warm, but not sweaty. They do breath. Expensive but oh so worth it when you have bad feet.

Ordering these shoes a size up from my normal size made me nervous but the reviews are right! I recommend sizing up one. I love the look and awesome support of these slippers... however, I will be exchanging because mine came with a slight defect. One of them looked as if it wasn't totally glued down to the sole of the shoe? Hoping it was just a fluke and the next pair I get will not have that flaw.

I have a tough time finding slippers I like. I like these because they don't slip off. I'm able to get in and out of them pretty fast too. I like quality and good looks. They have that. They are also comfortable.

I am a size 8 men's and as others have noted these slippers runs small. I ignored the advice and ordered a size 41 European and when they arrived they were about 1 size too small. I returned the 41 and ordered a 42. Although they feel roughly half a size large I can live with that. They are slippers after all, and comfortable ones at that.

The size 44 (U.S. size 11) I ordered was approximately the length of a U.S. 10. My toes were uncomfortable and I had to return them. Unfortunately, they have no size 46s in stock in any style. Quality of construction and materials is absolutely excellent. While these are listed as medium width, and I normally wear 4E or 6E widths due to bunions, these were entirely comfortable as far as width. The arch support is very strong, and might be too extreme for some people. I love it. I'm sorry to have to return them due to the length.

Not sized right, Order your Europe size plus one or two, too much arch support, not comfortable. I sent them back. Love Zappos service.

Love these. I wear a 39 in Birkenstock sandals, 40 in closed toe styles. I wear an 8 /12 W in most shoes, or perhaps a 9W. I took a 40 in these. I have high arches, and a bunion on my right foot. With all this time inside now, my feet needed more support. If you know your European shoe size, stick with it. I have no trouble slipping them on, but I am not wearing socks or maybe thin ones. The outer soles are molded, but not heavy. Ideal for those like me who prefer bare feet, but need support. I imagine they will wear better than my German wool slippers that wore through quite quickly and quieter than the Spence slip ons that were great support but flopped when I walked. Very pleased!

I'm going to disagree with the majority of the reviews on sizing. These were true to size for me. I ordered a size up as suggested by many here and that did not work for me. When I reordered the same size that I typically wear in Danskos and Naot, these fit perfectly. I love these shoes. I also have some Haflingers that I have enjoyed the past few years. The Giessweins definitely stay on my feet better and have better arch support.

I was looking for a new pair of slippers that had a removeable support so I could put in my orthotic. I found that the support in the slipper was great so I didn't even have to put in my own. I usually wear a 6 1/2 or 7 and the 37 fits perfectly--I can wiggle my toes and yet the slippers fit snuggly enough so that I'm not walking out of them. It's summer so I don't wear them with socks but I just tried them on with my wool socks and they will still fit comfortably. I'm so happy with my Giesswein slippers!

Obsessed. I own so many of the "comfort" brands as I struggle with flat feet and the associated aches and pains. Have been looking for a slipper that combines the wicking of a leather footbed and the warmth of a wool upper. Have long worn the Haflinger Grizzley as my house slipper but this beats that both in arch support and comfort. The suede lined sole and wool combine for excellent moisture wicking. The color is perfectly neutral. They do take about a week to get used to and to "break in". Initially, I did feel as though my heel was pulling out too easily but I no longer notice that. I will be looking into other Giesswein styles to add to my collection! Ordered 46, same as my Haflingers and Danksos and they fit just right.
I'd also recommend:

I love these slippers. Can wear them snug, or loose. Can wear them outside. You can take the insoles out, which is nice for my partner who wears orthodics. Now she'll be able to wear slippers around the house instead of her shoes. I got these beginning of summer and they are not too warm. Can't wait to use them in winter! Worth the price.

If you are looking for warmth and arch support, these are the slippers for you! For the winter, I removed the arch support and put a fleece footbed in instead. Love the color!

These slippers are fantastic. I have had many of the moose hide/elk hide/etc, shearling-lined slippers, and these are way nicer and much more comfortable. Go with your euro size.

These are great slippers. I tried the UGGS and they wore out way too fast. These slippers feel great, look great and continue to look good after weeks of wear. These slippers also come with an orthotic with excellent arch support, but is easily removed if you so desire.
