I'm extremely picky about my shoes, and I've never ordered shoes online before, and I'm not sure that I will again. I only did because I'm trying to wear less leather (I don't eat cow, so why wear it?), and I couldn't find a good local source. I figured with Doc Martens reputation for comfortable shoes, I'd be okay. I don't know where that reputation comes with. 1. These shoes come with a couple mils of padding under the heel. That's it. Plan on ripping it out and putting in a proper insole. They run true-to-size (for me at least) as they come, but are too small once you put an insole in them, so you probably want to size up. 2. The back of the shoe -- like most men's dress shoes -- has a sharp edge that destroys socks and cuts into my upper heel. This is the main problem I have with most dress shoes, but I thought since they were Docs, they'd be different. No such luck. I wore them around the house for a couple days without incident, but when I finally thought they were comfortable enough, I wore them out and after walking literally a mile in them (that's my walk to the train), I was in pain. Unfortunately, by the time I got home at the end of the day, they were not fit to return. Maybe most men have heels made of leather, and having any sort of shoe is an improvement over going barefoot, so they aren't as picky as I am, but I just feel like I have another pair of shoes to add to my failed footwear collection.

Vegan shoes are hard to find. First and foremost, I would like to give credit to Dr. Martens for providing a vegan shoe. However, this is the worst pair of shoes I have owned in my life. I have heels that are more comfortable. I have to wear these at work, and I wait tables, so I'm on my feet for at least 8 hours a day. These shoes have given me blisters on top of my blisters, and blisters in places that I've never had blisters before. The shoes are hard to get on, and the laces don't stay tied. I am actively and desperately trying to find another pair of non-leather shoes to wear at work.

Unbearable torture machines, until I bought 1 size up from my usual. Then they were great. I broke in a few tight spots with a hairdryer (it works because they're not pleather, not leather). 100% vegan = 100% awesome.

I bought these shoes for my husband who prefers not to wear leather. I've been buying cheap man made dress shoes for him and he wears them out quickly. These are made much sturdier (and also more fashionable) and will last as long as three pairs of the cheap kind. Worth the price for sure.

These are well made vegan shoes. I received many compliments. Order a full size larger than your normal size.

After a month or so I would say these shoes appear to be quite durable. I was a little unsure about that at first considering that they're made from synthetic materials. As for sizing, even though I've indicated that these shoes are true to size I say that because I'm not all that familiar with Euro sizing. I've never purchased Dr. Martens before, however I do own a couple pair of Eccos that, although they aren't in UK sizes they do come in Euro sizes, and they fit me fine. Since I generally wear a size US 10.5 I first tried the Dr. Martens in a UK 9 but they were too tight. So I then got UK 10s and they fit okay but they aren't a snug comfortable fit that I like. The 10s are just a tad too loose but they're workable. This may be due to the synthetic upper that just may not be as form-fitting as leather can be. But as someone who has had a totally vegan diet for 20+ years I do (try) to be as vegan as is practically possible with what I wear. In as much as these shoes may not fit my feet perfectly they are quite comfortable for my head.

I'm disappointed because I think the shoe is beautiful (and vegan, most importantly), but the sizing is bad. I ordered a women's 8 and it was way too big, so I then ordered a women's 7 and it was way too small. I ordered the Doc Marten comfort insoles because I read those would help with the sizing, but the 8s were still way too big even with the insoles. If Doc Marten made half sizes, I would buy many, many pairs of these shoes over the years. But without half sizes, I will have to take my business elsewhere. Such a bummer.

PROS: They're Doc Martens! Sole is sturdy and gives some height. Vegan. CONS: Extremely and completely stiff--the sole, the sides, the top. Very tight toe box--could not move toes at all. No arch support. Very uncomfortable. Even after just trying them on, I could see where a wear crease would likely develop very soon and will probably crack the material in a short time.

I like these shoes a great deal. They allow me to be fashionable without buying leather. They seem high quality and capable of good wear. Definitely recommend them after only a few weeks.

Probably the most uncomfortable pair of vegetarian shoes I have ever worn. I really liked the vegan Earth shoes...when they were still making them...and have been spoiled by shoes that are so comfortable. These shoes, while looking nice, were actually hard to walk in. Some reviews said that they break in as you wear them, so I wore them for one day - I could hardly walk at the end of the day and I still have a recovering blister at the back of my heel where the left shoe was rubbing. Too late to return them - where are the good-looking comfortable vegan shoes for men?

Just received these this afternoon. First try out and I love them. Very comfortable. A little stiff but I knew these before making the purchase and also knew that it would take a bit longer to break in then most shoes. I loved them right out of the box and I can't wait until they are broke in to love them more.

For everyone that's vegan and getting these for all the right reasons... please stop complaining about how much they suck. How are we supposed to attract anyone to a vegan lifestyle if the first time anyone hears about veganism is here, and all the vegans are bashing the shoes? A couple of people have said that the heals really cut in to your heals... and most that said that seemed shocked. Well obviously you're an adult and have worn shoes before and know how to judge a shoe by its picture. If you have a problem with shoes cutting into your ankles, don't buy shoes with out ankle cushioning! And guess what?! There are a dozen other Dr Martins lines that have the exact same fitting and style/cut. Like any normal person who is all about being ethical and wanting a pair of nice, high quality shoes and doesn't want a precious animal to die for it, I ordered these. Turns out, I personally didn't like the ankle cut as well. So guess what I did? Instead of freaking out and giving it a bad review, I respectfully returned them for the tall version. And they are perfect! This low version just weren't for me. But that doesn't mean the vegan option is horrible. It just means that the people who purchased them and left a bad review are the same people who think they are world class critics find it their civic duty to leave a bad review on everything they didn't personal construct themselves. These shoes (tall or short) are fantastic. If you are dead set on ordering online, go to your local Dr Martin retailer and try a pair on first. If they don't have the vegan option, ask the sales attendant if you can try on the same cut/style in leather, just to get a feel for them. Man up, do what's right, and go vegan! It's the ethical thing to do! Also, for a casual experience, try Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81. This line by Asics is 99% vegan! I've only seen 2 or 3 that are not!

Very stylish and comfortable. Kind of wish they were not vegan friendly, just not the same.

The shoes were a little snug at first, but after a short break-in period, they feel great and provide tons of support. I also like their versatility; they look good with jeans and slacks.

They aren't the most comfortable shoes in the world. Inside the shoe, the heel has a little support and from the footbridge forward it's all cardboard. Also, I worry about the material not holding up over time. Other than that, they are fancy. And vegan. And pricey.

So.. I tried for a year to love these. They are absolutely gorgeous and sturdy but wow are they torture. Since it's made of thick plastic it literally feels like you are wearing plastic boxes on your feet. They killed the back of my foot every time I wore them even if it was just a 5 minute walk. I'd say just pass on these UNLESS you have a very thin ankle. They are comfy everywhere but the back where it digs into your skin.

I really loved my Docs in high school. They were a great part of the '90s aesthetic. Fast forward 20 years and I'm now a vegan and was looking forward to having another pair of Docs as I always liked the sole and style. I am really disappointed! These shoes are very hard to break in. I have really torn up my heels trying to do so for a month and just decided to stop wearing them. I even had them professionally stretched and tried the blow dryer trick another reviewer posted. They just are stiff as ever. I guess that means they are durable though...which is rare for a vegan shoe. Still, I don't think I could go through losing the skin on my heels again for a pair of shoes.

Love these shoes. They look great with jeans and dress pants and even skirts. I am saving up to get them in burgundy as a treat!

Love these shoes, I have had them for nearly two years now and still love them. These take time and commitment to break in, I originally ordered in my normal women's size 8 and those were too big, the 7 is small but a better fit. Two year later and they are still very snug, I get so many compliments on these shoes no matter where I go. Zappos return policy is STELLAR!!!!! I originally ordered the leather version went vegan and never wore the old pair. So nearly a year later on a whim I reached out to Zappos and they let me exchange the leather pair for these. These shoes run big and sizing down will have an ordeal time to break in, but if you are committed they will eventually break in and be the most comfy shoe you own. Off to buy the 101s.

Great shoes! They only come in full sizes, but I’d suggest ordering down a half size- I’m an 11.5US, but 11s worked great for me. The width is good too, and I have somewhat wide feet. They’re Docs, so a little breaking in is to be expected, but they were surprisingly comfortable right away. After only a few days they’re already starting to feel like good everyday shoes. Also I’m used to buying extra insoles for DM boots- these didn’t need them!

I love these shoes. I traditionally wear a 7 wide and these shoes accommodate my wide foot comfortably. I wore them all day (12 hours) and they were comfortable from start to finish. The color is great and I highly recommend these shoes. I hope they come out with more colors.

These shoes are of excellent quality! I thought that they would be big, heavy, and uncomfortable, but they are none of those things. They are much less bulky than I assumed and are not at all heavy, then again if you are used to wearing lighter shoes it may seem heavy, but definitely not comedically weighty. They are also comfortable enough to wear all day with moderate walking. A super stylish shoes that is sure to make your outfit stand out!

I bought these shoes for my son, who is a vegan. He thinks their great. The fit is just as described. Customer service and shipping were outstanding. Zappos provided overnight shipping at no extra cost, and matched a lower price I found on another website. We are very happy with Zappos and this purchase.

I bought these in 2013, after shopping for vegan dress shoes, and liked them so much I bought two more pairs, which I still have. They're durable, stylish, and very well constructed. I've done quite a bit of walking in these, and they have held up very well. I polish occasionally, to get rid of scuff marks. Overall, I'm very happy with the quality, construction, and style.
