I know a lot of the reviews so far have complained about the calf width being small, but I have to say I think it is a perfect fit. I am 5'10", 130lbs and usually a 9 or 9.5 depending on the shoe. I have had a terrible time finding a boot to fit my calf and not look like a "bell" around my leg. This style is perfect. I tried them on in brown at Nordstoms and I was surprised that I wear an 8.5. For tall people with thinner legs it is so hard to find boots, I've tried on at least 100 pairs in my 3 year hunt for black boots. It always seems the larger the foot size the large the calf circumference becomes. The quality, style, and best of all fit, make it worth the money.

This boot has a lovely distressed look - I usually avoid knee high boots as they are always too large around the calves but this one is perfect - I can tuck in skinny jeans very comfortably. A word to the wise, the first couple of time you try these boots on they will be hard to put on and take off - however, the leather softens very quickly and it becomes easy after a wear or two - they are comfortable too! Would recommend to size 1/2 size down.

I've been wanting a pair of Frye's for years. Now that I have them, I don't why I waited so long. I shopped for these boots online for 6 months; I'm super-picky and hard to size when it comes to shoes/boots. I had my eye on the Melissa Button but when I saw the distressing on the Carson Lug--oh, this boot is so me! I'm 50 but I'm still a rock-star hippie biker chick, a very young 50, even though had to kick breast cancers butt a few years back...but I digress, back to the boot! Beautiful, thick, soft leather that smells so lovely, you'd think I was tanning hides in my bedroom, lol. Let's discuss sizing. I probably read 700+ reviews, a lot regarding sizing. I have shoes anywhere from 8.5-9.5. I read an online tutorial on how to measure one's foot and I came up a size 9 and that is what I ordered. I had no problems putting the boot on; fit my calves perfect but I'm lean & not mean in general, lol. I wondered if they were actually too big, so I decided to order an 8.5, so I could compare fit. I am glad that I initialy only ordered one pair to try, if I would have ordered two pair right off the bat, I would have ordered a 9 and 9.5, which would have been way too big and what a waste of money for the company to ship both ways. I'm person who doesn't believe in wasting anyone's cash. There are 2 online tutorials regarding boot fit that are fantastic to refer to after your boots arrive. They are by Justin boots and Luchesse boots, on youtube.com. Super helpful! The 8.5 were too snug on me; they didn't fit correctly; no "heel slip" and they didn't even look right on me as the shaft was just a tad shorter than 9's so I shipped them back. I suggest to order your correct size. Don't size down. You can always make a boot that's a little too big fit better with thick socks, insoles and heel pads but you can't really make a boot that's too small fit better or look better! The fact that incorrect size doesn't look right surprised the heck out of me (the shaft). Oh, and I also love that these boots have lugged soles. Weatherproofing with Frye Spray does take some of the distress look away but they are still beautiful and I want to wear them in all kinds of weather; I won't be prissy-prissy in them but they will be cared for properly. They look awesome with my 27 year old black leather jacket. Unfortunately I couldn't get them from Zappos, they didn't have my size but I wanted to review them as so many Frye reviews here helped me so much. Be good to yourself today and buy a pair. :)

As usual, awesome Frye boots. My normal size fits (8.5), though they are a little roomy in the toe box. I think that they run slightly large (say a quarter size). After trying these on, then the Melissa boots and the Phillip boots, I'd say that these run largest, with the Melissa a little smaller and the Phillip snugger yet (though I think I'd wear all 3 in my normal size). I can wear them over my skinny jeans without a problem. They look, of course, drop dead gorgeous and are totally comfortable. The dark brown stone antiqued is very distressed - looks like you have worn them for years and have not been totally kind to them. The black stone antiqued are more subtle; as with the brown, the leather is very thick and worn in, but there is not all the scuffing and uneven tones that the brown has. They are a soft black, not gray. There is no shine or wax on either of the colors. What a dilemma. How to choose which one to keep? They are all perfect.

I love these boots and they fit my muscular calves. They fit easily over skinny jeans. I own a boutique and work in these boots all day at least four days a week. They are very comfortable.

Ordered these 1/2 size smaller. A real fight to get them on but the footbed fit perfectly. These are extremely snug in the calf area and was tough to fit even my leggings into. The leather will stretch a bit for you, as after trying on a few times, it did get easier to get my foot in...really soft leather. (Easing foot in is always easier for me with a stocking, easier slip.) If I only chose to wear these with skirts/dresses, I would have kept, but I sadly returned. Too pricey to have and not be able to wear with skinny jeans. My calves measure 14", rather average. Even though they would definitely stretch wearing with jeans were just too tight. Then they wrinkle at the ankle and that bugs me, like all day I would feel that. The cognac color although a really rich color (orange/red brown) was super distressed -too much for me...rather do the distressing myself. Loved the scallop detail at the top. Waiting for non distressed extended calf Frye! 3 star rating overall because I feel for the style boot they should fit comfortably while wearing jeans. Too few options to wear this boot for me. 5 star style though!

The most awesome boots. The best antique leather job I've seen on a shoe. They really look like they've been through the stables and stalls for the last 20 years. Unbelievable. I got the Cognac Stone Antique...Got them in 9.5. The fit is perfect right out the box. I have a narrow foot, so there is still plenty of room with regular socks. No breaking in! This is a huge relief considering the tough quality of the Frye leather. In my view, this boot is all about the craftsmanship. These boots have a sculpted feel on my foot. The toe and heel have a nice fit; my heels don't lift up when walking. The shaft is perfect for my skinny calves. Love the 15 inch height...I'm 5'10". I've been rocking these boots every day for a week.

Fun and fabulous boots! These boots are so comfortable from the get-go. I usually wear an 8 or 8.5. I bought the 8 in these boots and they fit great even with thicker wool socks. No break-in time either! Feels as if I've had these booties for a long while. Great job Frye! And as always, Zappos rules!

These boots are awesome! Hard to get on the first few times, but there is a trick to them...it helps to raise your leg in the air while sitting and pull them on while holding the straps...it works for me! Super comfy. I'm usually between an 8 and 8.5...the 8.5 was way too big.

Love these boots! They look like they are 100 years old and so beautifully broken in -- yet they are brand new! I get lots of compliments on these boots. Super comfy right out of the box too!

Ordered these Saturday evening and received the Monday AM...Zappos is top notch with getting what you order fast the boots are superb, color and distressing is just beautiful. Although the boot is tall just below my knee and so tight on the calf. I am 5ft 5 inches tall and never have a problem with boots being to tight around my calf. I ran them to the cobbler today to be stretched and we will see at the end of the week if they can stretch them enough. Keeping my fingers crossed, because I love them, the best style of the season. Have many Frye styles under my belt from the '70s on; they are a quality company Zappos is tops with service!

This is not only a great looking boot, but once you're actually able to get your foot in, it's ridiculously comfortable. You may need to get your new boots stretched a bit across the top of the foot, by your shoe maker, I've read other reviews that say that they're easier to get on after a couple of wares, but I didn't find that to be the case. Also, they're great for those of us who have small caves, as they fit very snug. I normally wear an 8.5 but with the Frye Carson boots, I took a size 8.

These are awesome boots. I love them. If you have an athletic calf like me though you'll have to wear them a bunch to stretch them out, or you can take it to a shoe cobbler, and they can stretch them. They look good, and they are comfortable, and I get compliments on them all the time.

Love these boots! Wish they weren't quite so distressed out of the box but they are super comfortable and I love the historic style. They are tall but so am I so they work well.

These boots are wonderful but I had to take them to an old fashion cobbler to get them stretched. My calves are a 14 inches around. The description says 15 inches...no way! They were under 14 inches around. My shoe guy had to stretch them at the ankle and the calf so they would fit properly. The leather is wonderful. They are well made but the sizing and proportion was very disappointing for the price but I was willing to put up with it as my boot maker was able to correct the problems. Frye needs to do a better job at proportion and measurements, especially if they are going to charge that kind of money.

Frye boots are always high quality and gorgeous, but sadly, these did not fit my wide-ish calves. The foot fit beautifully, the sole was sturdy, grippy, and supportive, the toe box was the right size, but the calf was just too narrow for me. Also they looked really beat up. I'm sure it's the intended style, distressed and broken in, but I was still surprised how abused they looked. If I were keeping them I'd get some Frye boot conditioner to smooth out the roughness a bit.

Really great looking boots, but very narrow shaft makes them difficult to get on and a little tight in the calf (and I would not describe my calves as chubby). Still workable, but there is a lot of tugging involved in getting them on. 3 stars in comfort is for the narrow shaft- the foot portion is comfortable!

This boot is beautiful but the top lip of the boot is so narrow, I had a tough time wiggling my foot in. I'm 5'8 and 135, by no means do I have chunky calves but this boot would make me believe otherwise. It's a shame too cause it is, by far, the cutest boot on the market.

These are beautiful boots! Ordered the Dark Brown 10 it was to long and the calf was huge. They flip flopped more than a politician. Sent them back, got a 9.5 could not get my foot past the ankle area. Ordered a Black 10, they fit perfect. These are very hard to get on if you have a high instep as I do, but keep trying they will go on and get easier each time. I am 5'10" with 14.5" calves the boot hits about 1.5" below my knee. To get them on try putting plastic bags on your feet so they slip on, then after an hour or two of walking in the boot switch to thin socks for two more hours. The second day I wore wool socks and the boot is easy to slip on and off. Worth the money and Zappos is great!

Love these boots! They fit perfectly. I'm normally a 7 1/2 or 8 shoe size and got the size 8. I didn't have trouble in the calves; however, I did have break a sweat getting my feet into the boots (it's a tight fit around the ankle that will require some breaking in). Other than that, this boots are well worth the money in my opinion. I've never spent this much on a pair of shoes before but they are well worth it.

As a horse person who owns a tack shop I spend a lot of time dealing with tall narrow boots. These are NARROW. I am considered a medium to narrow in my calf for actual riding boots and these boots were on the tight side for me. Not much room for more then socks or tights. Also if you have a high instep this is not a good choice.

The distressing on these boots is AMAZING. Looks like you've had them for 30 years. My only problem is that I have a high arch, and these are a nightmare for me to skip on and off. It takes the help of my husband pulling most of the time. The calf is still a bit loose for me, but my legs are super skinny so it is to be expected.

Ordered black, already have them in brown which I've had for a year, so comfortable! They are VERY difficult to get on the first few times you wear them but eventually they become easy! I wear and ordered a size 7 which are a little roomy, but wouldn't consider another size. They are snug around the calf, I do wish they had them in larger calf sizes. Great looking, can dress up or down and once again so comfortable! I love them! Highly recommend!
