To preface my review, I shoot USPSA practical pistol and wear these as an alternative to actual football or baseball cleats. I have also worn them on a few trail runs. As an owner of some XA pros from Salomon, when I went looking for a more aggressive almost cleat-like trail running shoe, I knew I had to give Salomon a look. The Inov8 Mudclaws are a very popular shoe in my sport, so they were on the list. My very positive experience with my XA pros and general love of Salomon's styling led me to jump for the Speedcross 3's even considering the higher price point than the similar Inov8's. I have very high arches and issues with overpronation, so the ability to put in my own orthotics was important. For my high arches there simply was not nearly enough support for me. Your mileage may vary. Upon taking them out of the box, I immediately noticed how aggressive the tread was, and I was very pleased. Comfort wise I give the Speedcross 3's a four simply because after extended wear my heels really start to feel pain that I don't get out of my XA's. However, what I love is that the midsoles on these things are very springy and especially when I plant hard into a shooting position, and I feel them compress and dampen that impact. As someone who is not a runner, I can't really comment on its merits as a running shoe. I can say that the few times I have run in them it was a pleasure. I have used these on rocks, wet grass, dust bowl type environments, wood, concrete and everything in between and have had zero traction issues. I feel way more confident doing explosive movements within a course of fire and can focus on shooting rather than whether or not I can safely maintain my footing.

These are fantastic shoes. They are light and comfortable with an aggressive sole that clears the dirt with ease. One word of caution for the wider foot runner: the forefoot is a little narrow which crowds the toes. I currently train in a size US8 Salomon Xr CrossMax 1 which are wider in the forefoot and fit me like a glove. I will have to increase the shoe size to US8½ to accommodate the narrower fit of these shoes.

I ran 14 miles right out of the box in these shoes. Two days later I ran a 50K in these shoes, trail, wet conditions, with 4,000 feet elevation change - these shoe crushed it. My feet felt great. A better fitting shoe than the Salomon Wings 4 shoe I had previously ran in. I have narrow feet and these are perfect. Light weight. Water resistant/ easily repels water from the toe cap region. I highly recommend this shoe to anyone into trail running. They are probably not necessary for your three miler in the park, but absolutely necessary for ultras. God's speed!

I've been running for over 30 years and my feet are what I would consider normal. The Salomon Speedcross 3 shoes fit like a glove. I was concerned about the aggressive tread on road use, but the tread is soft and the impact is unnoticeable. I love the speed draw shoe laces. It ensures a even fit, no gaps. It's too early to report on durability, but if it's like my other Salomon hiking shoes which I've had for 3 years now with little wear, I don't foresee any issues with it. The only thing I would warn about is the arch support. I have normal arches, so it wasn't an issue, but from an non-experts opinion, it might not have enough arch for those who need it. I love these shoes!

Unbelievably comfortable! I have to admit, it was not my 1st choice because I got used to mainstream brands; however, once I tried these on I was hooked! These are truly the most comfortable shoes I have owned. Fit true to size and are also very light. Now I am busy collecting them in other colors. Definitely worth a try!

This shoe was exactly what I needed. It has excellent traction, weight and heel/toe height difference. I ran only once until now, it was a moderate 25k trail run. Usually it's advised to break in the shoes with multiple short runs but I had an irresistible opportunity to use them with style. :) I have few critics though, the lacing system is less practical than XA Pro 3D Ultra. It should be asymmetrical like XAs 2- The outer and midsoles are durable but very elastic, more then necessary I would say! If you step on a rock with a 3-6 cm. of diameter, it may hurt your foot with a huge bump it creates inside the shoe. I weight 86 kg., maybe lighter people doesn't feel the same thing. Everything else is perfect, I am very heppy with it so far. The only strong alternative may be the Peregrine of Saucony, but in harsh conditions SC3 may outperform Peregrine. On the otherhand, I have several friends and serious trail runners, who are very satisfied with Peregrines.

This a very light and comfortable shoe as long as conditions are dry. As soon as water is added the the mix, the shoe becomes heavy, uncomfortable, and slippery regardless of the aggressive knobs on the sole. Speaking of which, except for the knobs, the sole is completely treadless. I ran a warrior dash in these shoes and they were unbearable - I slipped and fell twice in a creek bed. When running up a dry mountain, the shoes perform incredibly. Stay away from water. If you are running a MOB race, wear the Adidas Kanadias.

Salomon shoes have really caught my attention. I am the owner of 12 pairs now and proud of it! The fit and quality of these shoes is unmatched for their intended use and purpose. I use them for trail running and hiking. The Speedcross 3 that I am specifically addressing in this review offers good fit in the heel and toe box and arch support is moderate. Cushioning in the shoe is very good to excellent. The speed lacing system works very well and the lace tuck away in the tongue is a great concept. I've purchased three pairs of Speedcross 3's, one in black, one yellow and black, and one blue, orange and black. Salomon. All good!

Just finished Tough Mudder So Cal #1 2013. Temperature was 43-50 degrees all day. Poured rain the night before, so course was muddy. These were definitely the best shoes on the course. I killed it on the mud hills (walked right up) and made it to the top of Everest first try. These shoes are amazing for mud runs. They grip the hills going up and down like velcro.

Bought these shoes to run tough mudder in and they were fantastic. While other people were struggling up and down hills and mud slides, I was running right up them. After a good washing off with a hose they look almost new. They are a little stiffer after after being submerged in mud, but they are by no means ruined and are still good to run in. Insoles are still a little muddy though. In fact I loved them so much I am going to buy another pair, going to keep my first pair for outdoor events like tough mudder and a second pair to train and trail run in. Their construction it top quality!

I've had these for about a month now. I mostly run the trails along the Wasatch Front (BST, Millcreek Canyon, etc.) and Speedcross 3 has become my go-to trail shoe. With a lot of sharp rock and slippery dirt, these shoes protect well and each step plants solid even on those bomb-it-downhill finishes (e.g. Rattlesnake Gulch). I also wore them on a few early season, snowy ultra-light day summits (e.g. Deseret Peak) and found them surprisingly comfortable even when wet. I have size 13 yet narrow feet and I'd prefer if they'd fit a tiny bit tighter, but overall another excellent trail shoe from Salomon.

These are amazing shoes! I had first bought a pair of INOV-8 MUDROC 290, assuming they would be great, the first pair the heel just dug into my foot so I called and they sent me another pair over night. The second pair was the same, so again I had to call and the customer service is amazing and I was treated so well, they got me lined up with these Salomon Speedcross3 and I am so happy, the most comfortable shoes that I have worn. I reccomend them to anyone!

These shoes are awesome! I bought them for hiking on rocky and dry dirt terrain while I go Hang Gliding. These shoes are very comfortable, look awesome, and have great thick tread. The laces are fast and tuck away inside the tab. Thanks Zappos for the great shoes.

I bought these a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier with how they perform. This is my first pair of Salomons and I was fearful I would roll my ankle not being used to them, couldn't be further from the truth. Super light, supportive, and soft outsole. Meant only for the trail.

Sized perfectly, but it is a very, very narrow shoe. I am not a runner, but also do not require a wider-width shoe. Style-wise, very cool! Very comfortable heel and toe. Width at toe pad is great, but width at the arch is going to take some breaking in.

To the point. Pros: Great looking shoe. Superb cushioning (I am rather a thick boned dude), great grip on rocky and sandy trails (haven't tried mud...yet), lightweight. And, again...great looks! Cons: lacks stability, particularly on the toe box area. Wore them today for the first time and almost twisted my left ankle twice when stepping on medium sized rocks. It's their first ride and the left shoe front end is already debonding from the shoe! (I wish I could upload a picture.) Let's see how long they'll last. Not sturdy enough for my taste.

No lie. I went with my wife on a trip to the Grand Canyon and in typical form I left my hiking shoes at home. Fortunately for me there was a shop at the Grand Canyon that sold these shoes. Anyone will tell you that the last thing you want to do is break in a new pair of hiking shoes during a lengthy hike. These shoes were amazing. They were extremely comfortable, and gave me no blisters during the break-in period. In fact there was no break-in period. I owe these shoes a lot.

I bought these for a Tough Mudder race and they worked beautifully. Great traction in mud, comfortable when wet, and supportive when climbing rocky terrain. Lace system kept the shoes secure at all times. I rinsed them with a hose after the race, threw them in the washing machine, and let them air dry. Good as new.

I purchased these for softball and I am very happy! Light with a good grip on infield or grass. I also like the cushion, great support. I played 5 games and was ready for more.

I have enjoyed these shoes greatly. 50 miles of flat land aggressive terrain in and they don't look or feel aged at all. Snug fit and of course the excellent lace system. Lightweight for how much support and tread there is. Solid footbed keeps the rocks and limbs at bay too.

This is the second pair of Speedcross 3's I have owned. I use them mainly for doing cross-fit type workouts....Lots of burpees, mountain climbers, push ups, planks. My feet never slip!!! My first pair survived 3 Tough Mudders and countless trail runs. I am sure this new pair will not disappoint.
