Great boots. Just passed the "waterproof test", I have been stepping in puddles all day long. Comfortable right away. They appear to be well made (time will tell), and are pretty stylish as well.

These boots are awesome! Bought them for my boyfriend for Christmas and he wears them everyday! Great boot if you live in a snowy winter weather place. They are really warm and practical outside but still look classy with a pair of jeans/pants (hard to do with winter boots) so works well for inside too. If you them you won't regret it! Also side note: I messed up in placing my order originally (wrong shipping address). When I called Zappos, Anthony was great in helping me and he was able to fix my issue in seconds and the package even arrived a day early-- So Zappos customer service team gets 5 stars from me too.

I was looking for a boot that was aesthetically pleasing, durable, and could be easily resoled. I walk and ride my bike all over so having a sturdy pair of shoes is a necessity. These boots have all the qualities I was looking for and come from a great company that stands behind their products. I wear these everywhere and even occasionally get comments from random folks about how nice they look. I normally wear an 11.5 and these fit as expected. The only negative is that the insole does not seem to be quite as comfortable as it could be, but that is easily fixed by replacing it with one more suited for my foot. I anticipate that these will be my "go to" pair of shoes for many years.

Basically what I should be telling you is that this boot is horrible to drive you from buying it so that way the fewer people with them the more unique they are when I wear them. Great boot! People don't say anything but when people look at your shoes for more than 3 seconds that's a sign they like them or you are wearing some stinky busted up shoes and they are hinting for you to go to Zappos.com and make a new shoes purchase. Peace!

Lesson (re)learned. Always spend a little more to get better quality. So, I bought a pair of Waterproof Timberland Earthkeepers that were offered at an unbelievable sale price (somewhere else). That ended up being a mistake. Nothing was correctly sized, the shaft was poorly made such that it was uncomfortable to wear, there is zero arch support, the sole is so thin you can feel pebbles you walk on, etc. Pure junk. Those Timberland boots were returned, and thank god. Then I found this boot, and after wearing it for several days I can say Patagonia has delivered exactly what I was looking for. For anyone considering this boot, let me explain what it is, and what it is not. In the Pacific Northwest, we really need our daily shoes to be waterproof or you're just asking to be wet, cold and uncomfortable (read: a person without waterproofing here is stupid). These are most definitely waterproof, though not for Alpine stream crossing (note: Patagonia and Zappos are not selling this as an Alpine boot, so I'm not criticizing... just clarifying). The leather on this boot is flat-out beautiful and the design has a simple elegance that keeps drawing glances and compliments from many that see them. So that means these are great for wearing to the office, or to dress up a little. The deep lugged sole gives you the ability to go where dress shoes won't go (damn these have GREAT traction), yet looking very sharp. On the other hand, this is not a boot you'd wear for field work, nor is it a good choice for a work-shop environment (you'd wreck the leather in those environments). And it certainly is not a hiking boot (maybe it would be OK for occasional day-trek stuff, but it does not have the right support or midsole rigidity for carrying a 40+ lb backpack). What this boot does have is unusual quality construction features (e.g. double stitched seams), a zero break-in period, a deep-lugged Vibram sole that will last forever (and you can resole it), double waterproofing features to keep you dry (that is, waterproofed leather and a waterproof inner barrier similar to Gore-Tex... though probably not quite as technical as Gore-Tex) and the mid-sole provides the right support and appropriate stiffness to keep you comfortably on your feet all day if needed. To that point, I'd say they are every bit as comfortable as my Allen Edmonds dress shoes. If you own a pair of Allen Edmonds, you know what I mean. Note: another reviewer criticized that these boots make their feet sweaty. I agree a little, but really it's not a significant issue. In fact, I wouldn't even notice except that I read it in another review and therefor I'm aware and looking for this problem. It might be a bigger issue if I was wearing cotton socks, or if I was in 10F temperatures. Essentially this is a boot that delivers all the right features for the buyer that wants a sharp shoe with boot-advantages and all the technical and craftsmanship features that a buyer wants for their hard-earned money... a boot that lasts, works properly and looks great. Bingo. P.S. - I normally wear an 11 medium. I bought these in 11.5 medium and it fits perfectly with thin wool socks (thin, but thicker than wool dress socks). They'll be fine with thicker wool socks too. I'd recommend buying up a 1/2 size.

These are excellent boots. The fit is roomy but great, and they are comfortable enough to stand and or walk in all day. I would recommend them to someone who wants great looks, comfort and value.

New York has been rather wet this year, and sometimes you don't feel like walking around in your snow-shoes.
These boots were an excellent choice for casual workwear, and the performance is great.
Warm, waterproof and very comfortable. Goes well with both jeans and trousers.
The heel was set at a good height, and the lug sole was not too heavy or difficult to walk in.
I don't expect these to wear out any time soon, but I am considering getting another pair for the archives in case this model is no longer available a few years down the road.
Very happy with the purchase.

Seems like a quality shoe. If they last several years, then they were worth the price tag. If not, then I won't buy this brand again.

This shoe is a great purchase. I was looking for something that could endure the harsh outdoors and add some style to my city life. After purchasing this shoe, I went on a winter-time trip to Iceland, during which this shoe performed extremely well. It's tough, has great grip, and is waterproof. I usually wear size 10, but was a size 9 in this shoe. The shoe is probably not the most comfortable shoe you could buy, but it optimizes across a lot of other things, while being fairly comfortable.

These appear to be stitch down construction boots however after catching the toe on the sidewalk I discovered they are not. The welt around the edge is simply decorative and the soles are actually glued on. The boots are comfortable but I am upset with the appearance of being stitch down. And for this price (same all over the web) they should certainly be stitch down resole able shoes. I believe a good shoe shop could glue a new sole on them when need arises.

So I finally got a pair of 8.5 in stock and grabbed them as they don't tend to stay around too long. At first glance these boots were built very well, even being built in China (more on that later). They have a nice rubbed dark brown finish that looks great, nice stitching, and a pull on loop that I can actually fit my fat finger in at the back. Standard Vibram stars and bars will make it nice when it comes time to get resoled which will probably be when the leather will be broken in. This is very thick leather.
Overall they fit the length nicely, but I have wide foot so I would be nice if they were available in a wider width, but that is hard to find on anything short of a an all-out work boot. I find that boots made in China seem to tend to fit more narrowly on shoes not available in multiple widths. Right at the top of my forefoot where the lacking eyelets and the lowers come together pinches on the top of my foot after a long day. With break-in, I expect that to go away and if not I could always have my cobbler stretch them a bit.
I haven't had the chance to test the waterproofness yet, but being a Patagonia product and looking at the construction, I don't think that is going to be an issue. Speaking about construction, I would like to see a leather interior or even a more heavy duty textile. The inside lining is a fleece like or felt like one and I am hoping that it will stand the test of time.
For now, it's a nice boot that strikes a good balance between style and performance that may be just a tad overpriced in my opinion.

I normally wear size 15 or 14 depending on brand/shoe, etc... So I wasn't surprised when the 15s felt a bit big. I thought the boots were comfortable so I was excited to receive the 14s to see how they compared. The 14s were a perfect fit, but the body of the right boot was strangely sewn to the sole at a tilt. The tilt cause the sole to bend and when sitting flat (not wearing it), you could rock the boot like a table on uneven ground. I confirmed that all of the other boots (left 14 and both 15s) sat solidly on a flat surface. When wearing the boot, it felt like I was walking on the inside of my foot. I have very average arches and have never had a problem like this. Needless to say I was incredibly disappointed. Now I have both pairs on their way back. Haven't decided if I'll reorder the 14s. Pretty poor quality control.
