This coat is the bomb! It is so toasty and comfortable, well designed, stylish and, frankly, better than any of the North Face jackets I found. I ordered 7-8 jackets and loved this the most. It has a fleece inner lining for the torso, neck and cuffs (like a jacket length under fleece). Its arm length is true to size (some North Face have crazy long arms) and it has an inside pocket which I was surprised to find lacking on so coats in this price range. I didn't like the fur collar but it zips off. Sadly, it runs small so the Medium is too small. I'm around a 10 top (36C with broad shoulders), and the MED is too tight and the LG was not available! Never did try on the LG so it might have been too puffy. I admit the East Village NF I ended up with is much lighter weight (700 fill) and packs tighter. Anyway, my runner up coats were the North Face Triple C (too long) the NF Metropolis Parka (better but boxy), the Patagonia Down with It (didn't like the fabric). Good luck in your search!

I chose this coat over the Patagonia Downtown Loft Parka after trying on both because of the following reasons: 1. The moonstruck color is really pretty. It is a pearl color (flat, not iridescent). 2. The hood on this Marmot coat is really snug and keeps out the wind. The Pata coat did not have a way to cinch or secure the hood. This coat has a Velcro strap under the chin. The hood is deep. 3. The length on this coat, although not as long as the Patagonia coat, is to the knee, which is great for keeping legs warm in a chilly commute to work driving. I was looking for a long coat. 4. The fleece cuffs are so cozy. Pata coat did not have the fleece cuffs, or the plush lining on the inside of the coat. 5. The warmth of the coat is excellent. I am a wimp, new to the midwest, and I am happy I bought this coat. I would definitely recommend this coat. I was able to buy it at a significant discount around Thanksgiving, so shop around and don't pay full retail.

I have this coat and I love it! I searched last year for a new coat and after trying the North Face for less than a week, I tried the Montreaux Coat. I love it. It is slimming and it is super warm to be such a light weight coat. The pockets are better than my gloves. No matter how cold it is they warm up my hands fast. It is made of good quality materials and for someone who lives in the Windy City, it has definitely passed the winter/freezing test. It is well, worth the money and currently shopping for Marmot coat no. 2. I love this company.

Comment: I searched for hours and hours online and in stores to find the perfect down coat. I wanted one with a hood and preferably without the fur ruff. This is honestly the perfect jacket. it is unbelievably warm, and has a cozy inner fleece lining that i love. The hood is plush with down, and has a great draw string to cinch around the head. The fur ruff is removable which is even better (it does look kinda cheap)! The chevron design slims too! I am a 34C, size 4 with an average build (thicker arms) and the medium fit well for layering, while the small also fit, but i would have been uncomfortable with anything bulky underneath. Both jackets looked about the same (size wise) when tried on, so I went with the medium.

Great coat! It is figure flattering and very warm. I wear a 6/8 and the medium fits perfectly over a fitted sweater. Possibly size up if you have broader shoulders?

Best down coat out there. This is so warm, wore it in 7 degrees, wicked winds. Lightweight, but super warm. The fleece is so nice around the neck chin, just so cozy is this coat and super warm. The hood is superb, to protect your face from wicked winds. I got a large and am 5' 6", 140lbs and fits perfect, snug. Love this coat. I think it is the best one on the market for warmth and I have tried many.

I'm extremely happy with this coat. I'm 5'6, 128 lbs. and ordered a Medium. I ordered it in gray which is a nice change from black. Coat has great coverage but is not bulky like many down coats. Plenty of room to wear a sweater or polar fleece underneath and sleeve length is still good. Comfortable on 35 degree days, and today when I walked the dog at -10 with 25 mph winds. Cuffs, collar, and pockets have a soft fleece lining which is also a nice feature.

This coat has an awesome hood for those of us who need it in winters where harsh winds occur. It is also chock full with down, which I think will make it extremely warm, haven't worn it yet out. It would be nice if the fleece ran the full length of the coat, versus just half way, the top half. Also I prefer the other type of zipper, the chunky plastic one, which lasts longer I have found from past experiences. But I think this coat will be warmer than my Patagonia down with it, which I need for very cold days in upstate NY.

I love this coat. Bought it last season when temps were subzero and never got cold. It is very slim fitting...I'm 5'8" and wear a 6. I ordered a medium and it's a perfect fit. It's much more figure flattering than some of the other brands. I ordered at least 8 different coats to try and this was by far my favorite! I rate this coat 5 stars across the board! Zappos service is 5 star, too!

I found that this coat did not run true to size. I am 5'6", 135lb, size 6-8, and the Medium was too tight across the shoulder and chest, and it also felt tight in my armpits. I sized up to Large and the fit is good, but I find the coat to be a little boxy. I wish that there was a drawstring so I could cinch the waist a little and give me a more feminine shape. Other than that, I love the coat. It is cozy, warm and beautiful. The size pockets are at the right height and comfortable for my hands (some coat pockets are awkward). The coat is silky and comfortable. I like that the hood faux fur trim is removable.

This Marmot Montreaux Coat is wonderful. I am generally a size 4-6, sometimes even a 2 depending on manufacturer. I am 5 foot 6 and 117 pounds. Pretty much a beanpole. I would generally order a size S but in this case, after reading lots of reviews, I ordered a M and I am really glad I did. I do not like winter outerwear that fits like a glove. I like a little give so that I can move freely. This fit is close but not tight. I am more interested in being warm than glamorous, although this coat does not compromise on either. The waist is slightly tapered. The baffling stitched on the diagonal makes for a slimming visual. I found it to be more figure flattering than any other down coat I tried. I put it on over a thin cotton turtleneck and jeans and it just fit. If I were to wear a heavy sweater or sweatshirt underneath, I would order up to a L. So, all things considered, I would say order up a size if you plan to wear anything but a single lightweight top underneath. If I had generous hips and chest, I would want the L. It is a well designed and well constructed coat. Outside zip pockets lined in soft brushed tricot are deep enough so that things you put in will not fall out. No kidding, some manufacturers like Eddie Bauer seem to save money by shorting you on pocket size so that you cannot even get your hands in there comfortably to keep them warm, let alone a cell phone or keys or gloves. Two inside pockets, one zipped and the other not, are also nice and deep. On the inside the upper half of the back and sides are lined in a very lightweight warm and soft material that helps to block the wind, not sure what the material is so I will call it a brushed tricot. Inner cuffs are made with same tricot and fit gently around the wrist to stop cold air from blowing up the arm. The collar is lined with the same warm and soft fabric. The hood construction is well thought out and is deep enough to protect as intended, but not too deep. When the hood is folded back it acts as a wind block, keeping the back of the head and neck warm. Two way zipper of course. Dark Steel color is a nice break from black. Everything works on this coat. I seem to have plenty of down jackets and vests but needed something longer to protect thighs and this does that. Has a hanging hoop in back of the collar. a feature I use all the time. I like that it is 650 fill power because anything less is not enough. I have my eye on a Marmot jacket that has 900 fill power as my next purchase. I like to be warm; I sleep with two down comforters on the bed in winter, with window open. No such thing as a coat that is too warm. If I wear it inside, maybe shopping, I will just take it off and carry it if I start to overheat. So, so lightweight. Like a feather. No problem to carry it. Everything works like it should on this coat. Like the brand. Think it may be made in America too. Hope so.

This coat is the best. When I received it I was worried because I thought it was too lightweight to ever keep me warm in a Michigan winter. I was so wrong. I hate to be cold and this coat keeps me so warm and toasty even if it's 10 degrees out. I've never said "I'm cold" while wearing this coat. It was an expensive purchase for me and I only wish I had done it sooner. And it's so thin I don't feel like I'm all bundled up and can't move. I'm 5' and 110lbs and a size small hits right at the knee and perfect everywhere else.

I love my Marmot coat. I bought the Montreaux in 2010 and it's still going strong. Easy to maintain/wash...and very durable to our Chicago winters. I love it so much because it's warm but yet so light. Doesn't feel like a heavy coat, bulky...and it allows whatever the temp to fit my body. It's sub zero temps. I'm warm, not cold at all...and if it's a spring time day...40 or above for us, Chicagoans...I don't get hot/don't sweat. It adjusts to your body temperature...and it's just wonderful. I'm shopping for a shorter style to have for variation, but indeed the Marmot brand succeeds in my book. Love it.

I love this coat. I also tried the North Face Triple C and Patagonia downtown loft but this Marmot proved by far the coziness and I thought it was warmest. It has a soft inner lining and inner pockets around the chest area, cozy lined pockets and wrist guards. It is easy to zip and really light. I only wish Marmot made this a little longer (I was looking for below the knee) but this goes to my knee at 5'8". I felt very warm in the cold Midwest, far better than my wool coat. Like another reviewer said I feel like I am wearing a soft sleeping bag. It is light too. I got white, which is gray tone rather than ivory tone if that makes sense. It is a very pretty color.

This is my first time spending this much on a coat, so I can't really compare it to other brands except a Lands End coat that looks similar to this one.
This coat is SO LIGHT! The material feels very soft but also delicate. I'm afraid it will catch and tear on something.
The plushy fleecy interior is so comfortable.
I put on the coat in the house, and it is very warm, warmer than my Lands End coat.
I got the white color, but it's more of a very light gray or a dirty white. I don't like it because it looks like a white coat that has been worn a lot and is now dirty.
Fit: This was confusing to me when I was selecting a size, so let me add my experience here. I like a slim fit, so I chose a small. I am 5'6" 130lbs 34B. I'm slim, and my bust is not very large. I ordered a Small in this coat, and I should have ordered a Medium! It was tight across my bust when I was relaxed, even worse if I moved by arms back. So, order a size up if you are anything bigger than an A cup and you plan on wearing anything thicker than a thin T-shirt under this coat.
I'm returning this coat because I need a larger size, I don't like the white color, and the coat itself feels too delicate for the abuse I will put it through. The last thing I want to worry about is tearing an expensive coat.

This is a great jacket. I got the dark steel and I absolutely love it. The outer shell is soft and the inner lining is awesome. I'm 5'1, weigh 100 lbs and average chest. I'm typically wear everything in xs but I got the small due to previous reviews and it is perfect to layer with. The shoulder/armpit is roomy (a problem with a north face jacket I have), the length is a bit longer than I expected (below knees and probably half way to calves) but I actually like that since I will be weathering the new england winter. I wore this out as soon as I unpacked it, in 10 degree weather with the wind in my face and it felt warm and cozy. The hood is big and deep and my head is protected well. I don't mind the faux fur, but it's removable. I debated between this and the north face jacket (this I didn't have a chance to try out but the North Face I did) and this is so much softer and lighter than the other jacket. There is nothing I can complain about this jacket. It is so worth the price and definitely a keeper.

I bought this for me wife. She loves it. We live in Michigan so it definitely gets cold. She wanted a longer winter jacket to wear with long sweaters. She raves about the comfort saying that it feels like a sleeping bag.

I live in Chicago and really need a warm coat as I take the train to work and walk 7 blocks to my office. After reading reviews on many different coats, and trying on a few different types, I selected the Montreaux as my new winter coat. I could not be happier with my decision. Even on the most blustery cold winter days, this coat has proven its quality and warmth. I am never cold and feel like I am being protected by a large blanket. The hood helps block out the wind as well! I am 5'5" and weigh 115 and the XS fits me perfectly. If you are struggling to decide between the North Face, Patagonia, and any other well known brand, this jacket proves to be super warm. It also has a lifetime warranty if you register it online. A great value for a great jacket.

I love this coat! It is exactly what I paid for. It is warm, long, and looks nice dressed up or down. The size was true to fit and the color was perfect. I couldn't be more happy withe purchase and the brand. I will definitely purchase from this brand again and of course from Zappos. I have shopped with Zappos for over a decade back when they were just shoes and they never failed me. This is the first time I bought anything other than shoes and it was the best choice I ever made.

I absolutely love this coat! I researched and ordered coats from Patagonia, the North Face, and Marmot. This one wins, by far! I feel like I am walking around in a sleeping bag, yet it is still attractive, not too puffy so you do not look like the Michelin man. Customer service at Zappos was also incredible. Get this coat! I am 5'11", 150 pounds and flat chested. The large is perfect!

This coat is so warm and soft while feeling lightweight. I ordered several down coats from Zappos and this one wins hands down. I've worn in out in the snow several times and felt toasty warm. I'm 6 foot, 150 pounds and I ordered a medium. It fits well and comes right down to my knees.

In my search for the perfect winter coat that would protect me from the elements of a potentially arctic winter in Wisconsin, I looked at Marmot, Patagonia and The North Face to keep me warm. I had very few requirements: hood must be adjustable to close around face, must not be too puffy, and must have good reviews. The Marmot Montreaux is really the only coat that fit this criteria. Warmth: You will not believe how warm this coat is. Do not wear it in a shopping mall or you might die of heat exhaustion. Top of interior is lined with a soft velvety fabric. There is no place for air to leak in (perhaps the zipper on a very, very cold windy day?) and the arms have an extra fleece lined cuff that helps keep wrists covered. I've only worn it on a 30-degree day, and I was VERY warm (perhaps too warm). Hood has ability to cinch very tightly around your face to leave very little of your face uncovered. Style: Let's face it; a down-filled parka is NOT going to make you Sexiest Woman on Earth. That being said, this coat has some nice design elements. The diagonal quilting helps distract from the puffiness, which really isn't all that puffy compared to others. There also seems to be a slight tapering in the waist to give it a little more flattering shape. Fur is detachable, and there's nothing about this coat that is offensive to look at. It's not shiny, the black isn't jet black (more of a soft black), and there aren't any random and pointless embellishments. All function with a little style. Functionality: Interior pockets, exterior pockets with zippers, split zipper to allow you to zip up from bottom if you need a little more knee room. Unsure how waterproof this coat is as I've only worn it in the snow once. The snow seemed to stick, then slide right off when I walked inside. Fit: Here's my only issue, and it seems to be common with Marmot coats. It fits smaller than what I'm used to. I read nearly every review of this coat on multiple websites, and nearly everyone said that it ran small. I'm always a size small and I'm not flat-chested, so I was concerned that a small would be too tight across the chest. The local sporting goods store did not carry this exact coat, so I tried on other Marmots. They all fit smaller than normal. It's worth sizing up if you're in between two sizes like I was. The smaller size would have been tight wearing a sweater, though the medium is a little longer and looser than I would like. I'd rather be comfortable than feel like I was stuffed in my jacket, though! Length: This was another thing I wasn't sure about...if the Montreaux (longer) or Montreal (shorter) would be more appropriate for my 5'2" frame. Because I wanted this coat for walks to and from work in blistering cold, I'm glad I went with the longer coat. It hits at the bottom part of my knees, so there's little issues with range of movement (might be hard to ride a bike in, though). On a taller woman, it would probably hit mid-knee or just above.
