I bought these boots for the upcoming wildland fire season, after recommendations from my boss. I ordered a full size larger than I normally wear (I ordered 10.5 and I usually wear 9.5) as was advised by other reviewers. That ended up being the perfect decision. I was very pleased with the fast shipping and with the boots themselves. They are far tougher boots than I thought they would be. the leather is very thick and the boots are very stiff and supportive. I wore them off and on for about 2 weeks and they broke in nicely and have become quite comfortable, but haven't lost the support. My fire season is just beginning, so I haven't field tested them, other than a few hikes. Thus far I am extremely pleased.

Very supportive boot. Feels narrow to start, but stretches to become more comfortable while breaking in. Very light and stiff for such a large boot. Overall I am very satisfied.

Appears to be a good boot. They broke in easily. I have used them on Rx burns and just put 50 miles on them elk hunting. I ordered a 1/2 size big and they work well with one pair of wool socks. Only issue -- they are hot and stinky (I don't normally get stinky shoes) -- will try an insole. Very waterproof. Great ankle support. A little heavy.

Overall true to size. I've been wearing these for the past couple months of the fire season and so far I'm impressed with their quality. While hiking they are more sturdy, lighter, and make it easier to find purchase on steep terrain than traditional logger style. The waterproofing is excellent and easy to reapply with nikwax when needed. They also seem like they will be an excellent winter boot due to the warmth and apparent crampon interface. As always, you get what you pay for and these definitely seem to be holding up better than other brands of hiker style boots. The only drawback is the warmth during the summer months. I have started only wearing liner socks and applying powder liberally to avoid foot problems. Overall I recommend them highly and the best part is almost zero break in period!

I work as a Land Surveyor in the field and have owned many different brands of boots in my career. I have had these boots for about a year now and wear them nearly everyday. I work on dirt, asphalt, flat and slopes. They work amazingly well for everything I have put them through. The only issue I have with them which is a minor one, is that they are hot on warm days. Other than that these boots are great. I especially like the ankle support that they provide. I cannot remember how many times I have had my ankles bounce back from what most definitely would have been a major ankle roll that probably would have taken me out of commission and off work. Thanks, Scarpa, for making a great product and please do not stop making these boots as I believe I have found my future boots of choice for as long as you continue to make them.

Heard lots of suggestions to Wildland Fire boots from Danners to Thorogoods and I bite on Fuego from two friends who said these were the most comfortable boots alive. It was true and the guy who told me to get Danners had blisters from a two day fire on a hill. I laughed right in his face with my new Scarpas on. The sole has had history of delaminating but haven't seen anything yet. Go one size up from what you usually get and double sock with wool.

I have used this boot for three years, 5 days a week, 40+ hours as an arborist. I spend at least half of those hrs working aloft in climbing spikes. These boots provide plenty of ankle and sole support for this activity as well as for ground ops. Mine need to replaced now that they have seen so many days of service, the vibram sole lugs are nearly gone and winter is approaching...slippery. This boot is highly recommended. My two pairs of Whites, 8" and Lineman, are nothing more than dust collectors now. Please keep this boot in production Scarpa, this is the best boot I have had in 15 years as a climbing arborist.

My experience buying these boots was horrible! I would never recommend using Zappos to anyone. The first pair of boots I received was a broken used pair of boots. I returned them and was assured that the next pair would be inspected before being shipped. I then received a pair of boots in the correct box, however the boots were two sizes too big and the wrong color. I had planned to take these boots on a trip to the Brooks Range and was leaving in three days. When I called the company, yet again, I was told there was "no possibility" they could rush deliver me the right boots. Since, I was in Alaska they would only slow ship through the post office, you would think with all the hassle I had they would consider FedEx or something... but no. I postponed my trip to wait for these boots because I wanted them as a backup. Once again I had been promised that they would be inspected prior to shipping and was assured that they never have issues like had. After waiting and changing my trip I received a pair of boots that were the right size but still the wrong color. After three tries they still could not get this right. I never received the boots that I ordered. I gave up dealing with their customer service. I am disgusted with this company and will never use them again! The boots were great. I would recommend buying them anywhere else!

I have two other pair of Scarpa boots, one pair of Scarpa approach shoes and a couple pairs of climbing shoes. I wear size 44 in my other Scarpa Mountaineering boots and so thats what I ordered in these. BUT, 44 was way to big. not sure why the sizing is so different for this boot. Anyway, looking forward to getting a better size. Purchasing these to replace my current Wildland Fire boots (Whites). Will update with more info once I have correct size and a season on boots. Whatever star rating I give will not be a reflection on these boots. Scarpa makes a great product and I am sure these are no exception.

Do not buy these boots for wildland firefighting. They are extremely rigid and feel like your feet are encased in two concrete blocks. The steel shank kills your feet even after adding insoles. This is my 15th year in fire and I've gone through a lot of boots. Trust me, stick to the Lowas or Haix.
