Wore them hiking two different trips to Yosemite. Excellent on dirt, loose gravel, and especially on bare granite. Felt like my feet were glued to the rock. Yet, very comfortable. The top's like a sneaker, the sole like a velcro snow tire.

Following a week of frequent online searching and reviewing. I narrowed my choice to the North Face Hedgehog III GTX XCR through Zappos.com. This shoe had absolutely everything I wanted. Rugged durability, waterproofing while maintaining breathability, comfort and support - just to name a few. The detailed customer reviews at Zappos significantly helped my selection process and I couldn't be happier with my choice! Although there was some discussion regarding sizing concerns, I found that this shoe fit extremely true to size! A firm fit out of the box with immediate comfort and support following a brisk first hike! This pair easily managed a rugged trail in the Blue Mountains of North Carolina and I am confident that they will last to see many more!

I was doing a tough mudder and looking for a shoe that would be comfortable and hold up while on the course. I got this shoe 5 days before the event and was hesitant of wearing it without them being broken in. I wore them around a few times before the race just to get a feel. They felt comfortable and everyone who said their feet got hot, I didn't experience that at all. I ran the race and they worked perfectly. I'd highly recommend them for the trail if that's the kind of shoe you need. They fit perfectly and I had no problems with them even though they weren't broken in when I raced in them.

We were not sure of the size...so we ordered an 8 1/2 and a 9..the 9's fit perfectly - look wonderful - and the return was amazingly easy. The monies put back into our account so quickly for the returned pair. Top quality shoe - wonderful company and it had been recommended to us by many before - but this was our first attempt. We will definitely do this again. Thank you.

Bought these for hubby. They fit perfectly right off the bat and he wears them all the time now. I guess that means they're good.

These are very comfortable. Definitely waterproof (been in the snow in NH) and has good traction. Heel is wider as stated in other reviews. All in all, a very good shoe for the price.

Great support, stick like glue to all surfaces, keep feet warm and dry. Has taken me two years to wear soles thin and have worn a spot at rear collar area on right shoe. Replacing with same shoe. Great Zappos pricing and delivery -- as ever.

Love 'em. True to size. Comfortable. Waterproof. Warm though if wearing indoors for extended period of time.

These are great shoes. They are rugged, have a hardened rubberized toe, are rigid, grippy and look good. I bought half a size smaller and am glad I did. I measure a 12, but 11½ is the perfect fit.

First off, Zappos is great! I am a returning customer. As for the shoes, love them too! I owned a pair once before and have tried other models/makes since but returned to the hedgehog. Comfort/performance can't be beat!

Excellent shoe. My third pair. True to size. Great insole and traction. Highly recommended for a light hiking or trail running shoe.

I love this shoes, I disc golf so a lot of hiking, and I use to wear tennis shoes and get socked feet from the wet grass and slip and slide everywhere.

The price from Zappos was considerably lower than a local retail store. The delivery was fast and as promised. This was my second pair, so I am obviously satisfied with comfort of the hikers. The top eyelet should be a hook however as it is difficult to unlace with only the eyelet.

This shoe is a replacement for an aggressive trail runner from North Face that was great (but destroyed when they blew off the back of my motorcycle on the Interstate). These are hikers, not light enough as a runner, but kick buttocks on the golf course. Advice from this site directed me to buy a half size bigger, but don't. Get your size and you'll be fine. Great workmanship, these will last years. North Face: who'd a thought. And Zappos is a freakin' pleasure.

This is a great pair of shoes from North Face. I have had others and these are just as good. The build quality is amazing. You cannot go wrong with these.

I've got a Merrell Moab Gore-Tex and I thought it would be very difficult to find another shoe that could be a match to it. But I got to tell you, this one is as much good as my Merrell. It's very comfortable, looks nice, keeps my feet dry, have a nice grip, and it looks like it's going to last a long time (just like my Moab Gore-Tex). Certainly an awesome shoe to have.

My son wore these new shoes to Boy Scout camp for a week and said they were great. He said they were comfortable and kept his feet dry while walking in the rain.

These are supportive, comfortable, provide great traction, and are a great upgrade from original Hedgehog. They take a few days to break in, and will definitely feel heavier than your typical road shoe. I wear Mizunos for all of my other running and walking needs. These are great, and having trouble going back to my traditional lighter running shoes. These are highly recommend.

I bought these for work since it rains unpredictably here in Hawaii. I normally use a size 10.5 but opted for a size 11. I can always modify the insole to fit better. When it arrived I tried it on and it fit good but a little loose as expected. An extra layer of comfort insole did the trick. They fit perfect now. I get compliments from my co-workers and I don't worry about getting my feet soaked anymore. Thanks Zappos!

Bought these for my husband. He loves them. Fits true to size. Only this is they are hot in the summer time.

This is my third pair of Hedgehogs. I love them. I use them for hiking, backpacking, and everyday use and they always outperform my expectations. I have put well over 500 miles on my last two pairs and expect to with this pair as well. The third generation has a better insole than previous models. I can't recommend them enough.

This is my son's second pair of hedgehogs. He lives in the NW United States and needs a good waterproof shoe. I am sure he will always choose these as long as they still make them. As always delivery was free and fast.

I have been running in this type of shoes for years now and will not switch for anything. Vibrams are #1.

I found these shoes to be very stiff and plastic feeling. Hopefully they will break in as time goes on.

Very solid pair of hiking shoes. The North Face did a great job with the Gore Tex materials. Very comfortable, the sole is cushy & sound. I've worn these numerous times on the trail, in the creek bed, and throughout the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, and they've held up very well.
