Michael P...it's not supposed to be waterproof. Maybe you should learn the difference in waterproof and water resistant before you bash a product that does exactly what they say it will do. People like this just have to run their mouth about stuff they know nothing about...

Not waterproof. A few minutes after receiving this bag, a thunderstorm came through town. I thought: perfect conditions to test the waterproofness of this bag, its major selling point. I stuffed the bag with paper and put it out in the downpour for 5 minutes. When I retrieved it, I found that the paper was soaked, and that more than half a cup of water was sloshing around inside. This bag might be OK against a drizzle; the fabric is waterproof. However, in a serious rain, water just ran right around the flap over the zipper.

I got this bag basically as a carry-on, and it works great. Fit well in the overhead bin. The feature that sets it apart is the backpack straps, which are comfortable enough considering its just a duffel bag and there are no waist or chest straps for support. We'll see how long this bag lasts, but it's giving me good use now. Can't comment on water-resistance.

This bag replaced my North Face small duffel and is what I will compare it to. The Patagonia's material feels much more pliable, especially in cold weather. The material may be even thinner, but seems just as strong. There is a great zippered outside pocket for smaller items that are needing to be reached often. The shoulder straps are so much more ergonomic/comfortable and the fastex attaching clip at the bottom of each shoulder strap means you can completely clear them from one end of the bag allowing full access to the main compartment opening. The North Face shoulder straps leave much to be desired and always seem to be in the way when packing or unpacking the bag. North Face has some catching up to do.

Needed a carry on for the plane can can be super stuffed. This was it. Also has shoulder straps which I didn't think I would use but totally did the entire time throughout the airport. All the colors look really cool but I own with the classic black on black I was in snow, slight rain. Bag kept everything dry - great purchase.

This bag is the bomb! Great size for a ton of stuff. Love that you can carry it as a backpack, but don't have to look like you just got done with 5th period...

Excellent bag! Perfect size for a 6-day late fall trip to Europe. With some careful planning, I can see this bag working for a two-week trip to somewhere warm as well. Only complaint is that there's no strap specifically for comfortable one-shouldered carrying, but in a pinch you can just take one of the two included backpack-style straps and attach it diagonally.

This is a great travel bag. It easily holds everything that I need from a weekend trip to a weeks' vacation. The carrying options - handle or straps - make it easy to tote around.

I have not used the bag yet, but it has filled my expectations so far. I wanted a bag I could pack within my checked bag and then use for side trips. It's perfect for that; light but durable - and the quality I expect from Patagonia.

Great bag - I use it to store my sailing gear. Room enough for shoes, bibs, a jacket, vest, and then some. Perfect step up from a day pack but still small enough to be convenient for stowing on the boat. Easy weekender if you needed one.

We bought this bag to use as a carry on for a 10 day trip to Europe. It worked well. It holds plenty of clothing and shoes if you pack correctly. Using compression bags help a lot too. We had no issues with the airlines. The option to carry it on your back is fantastic. It's very durable. Buy it!

I've been doing heavy traveling with this bag as my primary (and usually only) carry on item for the better part of 6 months so my analysis is based on travel as the use case. (I use the bag mostly in a backpack configuration, I'm 5'11" and the bag works perfectly as a backpack.) The Good: - The shoulder straps on the bag are comfortable and make it easy to use the bag as a backpack. - The carrying handles are sturdy and allow you to carry the bag even when it's overly stuffed. - The bag is essentially an open rectangular solid devoid of any internal dividers. This allows you to organize the items within in any way you like. (It also means that if you have a lot of small items, packing cubes are probably the way to go.) - The bag has held it's own in rain and snow. I didn't go wading into the ocean with it, but so far the water resistance has been fine. - The bag fits into the overhead on every commercial plane I've been on from small regional jets all the way up to airliners. European carriers don't have a problem with the bags size. (Although I haven't flown Ryan Air with this bag - all bets are off there.) - Zippers have held up well even when I've overstuffed the bag. This is a big deal, zippers are often one of the first things to fail with heavy travel luggage and when they do fail, it sucks. - The zipper tab holes will fit a smallish TSA lock - so if you have to check your bag, you can lock the main compartment. All in all there are very few downsides to this bag. So I'm forced to nit pick to find issues: Cons: - The bag is about the same volume as a European IATA carry on. And while I've never had an issue, the dimensions are larger than the official measurements for cabin baggage for IATA in Europe. It could be an issue if you find yourself on the wrong side of a baggage Nazi. - Minor gripe: the rubberized pulls for the zippers will come off after a few months. The zippers work perfectly well without them, as they were more decorative than functional. - Zippers are not sealed - so yeah, in a fierce downpour, water will eventually get inside the bag. - The straps attach via a plastic D-ring at one end and a plastic side release buckle. It would have been nice to see metal side release buckles, but then again no one does that on generally commercially available bags. I evaluated both the "North Face Camp Duffel" bags (too round, not comfortable to carry), the Mountain Hardwear bags (too rectangular, not comfortable to carry with heavy loads), and the Marmot bags. Of the bags in this class, the Marmot bags were good for size and high quality construction. However, after traveling with the Marmot bags I found that the shoulder straps were very narrow and not comfortable when the bags were weighted down (more of an issue with the larger bags) and that the removable straps for the bags were connected via a small plastic latch that just didn't seem very resilient. (I never had a Marmot strap fail, I was just always worried that it would at the worst possible time.) Eventually I replaced my 90L and 120L Marmot bags with Patagonia black hole duffels in similar sizes. I've used them hauling vast quantities gear to and from the slopes for the past few months and the bags have survived like champions.

This is one great bag! I just took it on a week-long trip and it held everything I needed! The fabric is bulletproof and beautiful. To take full advantage of the cavernous interior, I also purchased a set of Eagle Creek pack-it bags. They help keep things organized and fit perfectly in the corners of the bag!

The Black Hole bags are hands down the best bags ever. They hold an amazing amount of stuff and they're durable (I don't have to worry about tossing them around because they can take it). I've had the 90L bag for years but it was too big for trips that are just a couple days, so I got the 60L and it's perfect for shorter trips where you don't need as much gear. I'd talked myself out of buying it for years (I don't need two sizes, right?), but I'm glad I finally caved and bought it.

Best duffel bag in the universe! I can take this for all my outdoor adventures! I do a lot of extreme sports and quite a bit of camping. This bag keeps your stuff dry if it gets caught in the rain and the backpack straps enable me to keep my hands free when needed. Super durable. The handles on each end are awesome! I plan to get a second one and bring them both into the BWCA!

Love this bag! Perfect size and the "U" shaped zipper is great for access and viewing. I get so many compliments on this bag! Comfortable and fits a lot! Perfect for my 5'6/120 lb frame. The backpack straps and handles are great! If you are looking for a travel bag, this is it!

Great bag - sturdy, practical size for an overnight or a week trip; works either way. Great looking, and easy to spot from a distance when on a baggage claim turnstile.

I love this pack! I bought it for a trip to England. I used the 60L as my only bag for 10 days abroad, and used this as my carry-on with no questions asked by the airlines. I will be buying the larger sizes for an upcoming mountaineering trips.

Overall this bag is great! The 60L works for a overpacked long weekend or a full week if you are smart. The backpack feature is key and makes it easy to maneuver in airports and other crowded spaces unlike roller bags. It would be nice if the U shaped opening at the top was a litter wider. We found this bag to the best when traveling with the family because you can keep your hands free and not dragging a bag behind you.

Took this recently to a week-long trip out west; even with several changes of shoes packed, I had entirely too much room left over, then held nearly two weeks of clothes for my son's trip to camp. About to take it on a 16 day trip to Europe and am confident that it will be the only bag I'll need for clothing/shoes/cosmetics. Fantastic bag so far. No, the backpack straps aren't ideal for carrying it, but as I'm 5'2", they're not impossible, either; the ability to detach them from the bottom end makes packing this baby a breeze. The one thing that could improve this design is if it had one of the traditional duffel bag cross-body straps as well. I'm looking into using a spare one to rig on to this as it is. Great bag all the same: small enough to carry and bring on plane, but roomy enough for an extended trip!

I like this bag a lot.
The back Pack straps are not the best but rather have it than not. It does its job. I wish it had more compartments inside and outside. It has one on the outside and two inside below the lid.
Overall very satisfied with the looks, quality of the material and build, and practicality.

This bag is amazing. I bought one for my husband for his birthday and after using it once, bought another one for me. We're both triathletes and this was the perfect bag to haul all of our gear - especially with the backpack straps. it's the perfect size for a carry-on, stands up on its own while packing but easy to smush down into the overhead. Patagonia nailed it. Again.

First of all this bag is NOT waterproof, Zappos should think about changing the video description - pretty misleading. Outside of this, awesome bag! Love it love it love it. But then again I'm a Patti junkie anyways. Great size for airline carry on or just an outdoor stuff bag.
