Overall, I'm pleased with this coffee grinder. It replaces a Bodum grinder I've used for about 8 years.
This unit grinds nicely with a good gradation of grinds. It has pre-set grinding times (up to 20 seconds), which is both good and bad. The 20 second grind is perfect for our morning pot, but if you need a larger quantity you have to grind again, as Bodum warns against overheating the motor with multiple long times.
Since our previous grinder, Bodum has corrected two design flaws. The vessel into which the grinds fall is now glass, not plastic. There is, therefore, less static and "fly away" coffee.
Secondly, the ground coffee falls into the top of this glass vessel not into the upper back. This eliminates the grounds falling behind the vessel as the old one did.
Orange was the only color available. We keep ours in the cupboard, so the appearance is not an issue.
As usual, the Zappos.com ordering and shipping were flawless, package was received the next day, and I was happy!
Thanks, Zappos.com, and Happy Holidays.

I have had the black Bistro grinder for about a year. Strong points include aesthetics and the static-free glass receptacle. Weak points include an uneven grind and a small range of grind sizes. The point of a burr grinder is for the grounds to be uniform in size; otherwise, the results are similar to a hand held grinder. With this machine, for example, a french press grind results in bean pieces of various sizes and shapes, but the grind is sufficiently coarse and the resultant coffee not deleteriously affected. So, despite my criticism, your coffee will still taste good if you buy this grinder. (Then again, my palate is not as well developed as my eye.) The machine's finest grind, for espresso, delivers a fairly fine grind, but again the pieces are not uniform in shape, and not nearly as fine as the espresso setting on a Cuisinart burr grinder. This machine would not be suitable for someone wishing to grind beans to a Turkish powder. Overall I like the grinder, but if I had to do it over again, I would go with a less-pretty Cuisinart--with a more uniform grind and a wider range of grinds--at half the price.

I bought this coffee grinder for two reasons - I wanted perfectly ground coffee, and I wanted a grinder that fit into my mid-century decor kitchen. The color orange and the ground coffee is perfect.
The only drawback is that the grinder runs just for 20 seconds, and requires 5-minute intervals between grindings. For a single-cup coffee drinker, this is no problem.

Without a doubt this was the worst coffee grinder we have ever used. You can not grind beans without having a mess all over your counter top. I threw it away after a month of having to clean my counter after every use. What a waste of money!

I replaced an older Cuisinart burr grinder, that began grinding intermittently, with the Bodum Bistro after researching several brands. The Bodum is a lot quieter than the Cuisinart and doesn't have the "static" problem with the ground beans that I had with the Cuisinart. The Bodum produces a very uniform grind when set on medium; I've not used the fine nor the coarse grind settings yet. The controls are simple, and the parts are easily disassembled for cleaning. I would have given the Bodum 5 stars except for the maximum 20-second grind time rule. My 10-cup coffee maker needs 10 measures of coffee, which requires 30 seconds to grind. Having to wait 5 minutes for the unit to cool is not a "deal breaker," but it is a little annoying. Overall, I'd recommend this grinder to anyone wanting a better quality machine than most bargain-priced brands I've seen/used.

I am very pleased with the Bistro 1093 Burr Coffee Grinder. It is very easy to use and makes much better coffee than the regular type coffee grinder. The few negative comments that were expressed on the internet were obviously by folks that had not read the directions and were not using it properly.

Fantastic grinder! If you are in the market, look no further. The only problem I'm having is that this grinder is leading me to investigate other means of brewing the beans. With such a consistent grind and wide range of settings...I'm looking beyond the French press for the 1st time.

Good shipping from Zappos and delivery by UPS. Maybe just my unit, but for making drip grind, I need to have it set for 'French press' or the result is too fine. The 20 second limit makes just enough for my pot. Recommended? Yes, as long as you don't need a truly coarse grind.

Very disappointed. EVERY time I use ithis grinder, the beans jam up the mechanism. Just not a pleasant or graceful process. I guess one star is appropriate because the grinder is quieter than any other I have used.
