These hiking shoes are great! They need little to no break in time at all since they are already pretty comfortable right out of the box. After reading people's reviews that the shoes run a size small, I tried the size up as well. They are, however, true to size. The toe box is built with a sturdy rubber that makes the toe feel snug at first. But after wearing them in a little, the shoe fits great, especially when compared to a size up which has too much room in the toe if you're wearing these for true hiking.

Landscaper: Durable, Dry, Comfortable & Cool. No other shoe has made it through my occupational demands. Typically I buy two pairs of shoes per summer/fall season. This is the first year I have not. Normally this time of the year I am breaking in my second pair. Still dry and shoe shows little sign of giving up. This shoe is a must buy if you put unreasonable demands on footwear.

I read all the reviews re. small sizing and ordered a 10.5 (my regular size) and 11.5. I couldn't get my foot into the 10.5 however the 11.5 fit perfectly. The shoes are extremely comfortable and have a very wide "toe box" and very good toe / heel protection. I haven't gone hiking in them, but the tread is aggressive and looks like it would do well. I tried on similar Merrell, North Face and Salomon shoes and these were by far the most comfortable. They appear very well made and I enjoy wearing them very much.

This shoe has an excellent sole and great support. Also, the fact that it is equipped with Gore-Tex just makes the shoe that much better, since it is water proof. I am thinking about buying a pair in the other color as well. I highly recommend this shoe since it is heavy duty and will definitely be able to hold up to a lot of abuse.

I hesitated because of the price, but you get what you pay for. These shoes turned out to be the best shoe I've ever had. I live in Colorado next to a creek so I tromped around in the snow all winter and ride a bike all year. I hike around and a couple times my foot slipped into frozen water and my feet always stayed dry and warm. The traction on the bottom is superb. The toe is nice and sturdy and the sole removes easily. They fit me perfect from day one. And they look cool. If you need some top notch footwear, you can't go wrong with a pair of these.

My husband is a size 11 in all shoes. We ordered the 11 and it was too small. We thought the 11.5 would work, but that was too small as well. We love the shoes and are now going to try the size 12.

Very comfortable, sturdy shoe. With the Gore-Tex it is also waterproof. I walk a lot (about 10 miles a day) and am always looking for a good walking shoe. This fits the bill and I have no complaints about the fit or comfort. My only complaint is that the sole wears out relatively quickly (I'm on my fourth pair in a couple of years).

Very good shoe. Very rugged, but comfortable. I actually take a size 12 and had to purchase this shoe in a size 14. The size 12 was way to small. I think a 13 1/2 would of fit the best, but they don't make that size. The color is great. Patagonia has a nice selection of colors that I can actually wear to work.

Felt just a notch small, but it should brake in. Just got them today and I'm super excited. This shoe looks and feels amazing. Nice and tight, great support, and thank you Patagonia for putting the Vibram out sole on this one. I love Vibram. Overall feels like an awesome shoe. I have some achilles tendonitis problems in my legs, but as soon as I put on this shoe I felt like new. I recommend this shoe to everyone.

Wow, purchased 2 pair of the the Gor-tex Patagonia a/c and one pair with out Gore-tex and my father in law loves his, husband loves his and 24 year old son loves his. all stand and walk on their feet for 10 hrs or more a day. they have only had them since Christmas but so far so good, easy purchase with Zappos and fast shipping. will do business with them again. Great gift but the best is happy feet and happy mom/wife/daughter. :) Highly recommend. PS I purchased 2 pair at first one 13 and one 12 due to reviews and they were right so gifted the size 12 to my father and reordered another size 13 for my son ( my husband got the 13's at Christmas), my son and husband are normally a size 12 to a 12 1/2 and I had to get them a 13 and my father is normally an 11 to 11 1/2 and the size 12 that I got my son for Christmas fit him, so I gifted to him because he fell in love with them at Christmas. :) And son had to wait for size 13 but not for long due to fast Zappos shipping . only small complain is Zappos said they would put me on their email list as soon as more came in and they never did, good thing I checked back because out of the 6 pair they ordered they only had two pair left when I made the order for another size 13. But it worked out and they were here in like 2 days so I was happy.

Such awesome shoes. Fit like a charm. Comfortable, warm, and keep my feet dry. A little pricey but def well worth it. Tread pattern is rugged, and Vibram sole is nice. Not too heavy, good weight and balanced.

So Just like the Last pair of Pataguccis I had they came out the box and fit perfectly. I would say the one department they could improve on is arch support there is virtually none. But that was to expected from Patagucci. I had my last pair of PG's for over three years now and am still rockin them on a regular basis, so I hope these ones live as long as the last pair. Through and through the Lug pattern on the sole is good and aggressive, the outer design of the shoe is pretty dope as well. It can go from the office to the trail without any problems. I highly recommend the pattagucci drifter to all who consider it.

They seem well made, comfy shoe, have not got them wet yet. No 5 star given. The lugs are pretty big on the edges, but that's a personal choice. They're still a good looking shoe. A little pricey in comparison, but well see. I usually wear a size 9. I'm in a 9 1/2, after wearing a month the 9 may have been okay, but now will be able to adjust with a heavier sock or a slight pad.

I've been searching for a good outdoor hiking/camping shoe. This is it. It does run a size larger and other reviews have stated. I have Morton's toe and the toe box works great for that too. Excellent under wet conditions and use in the boundary waters. I was going to use them for trail running as well, but have love my Vibram toe shoes too much. Running is much more comfortable "barefoot". I would recommend these to anyone, except maybe people with very narrow feet. Leave it to Patagonia. Never disappointed.

Very comfortable, but runs small--order a full size up. Also, as others have mentioned, the soles are very slippery on wet surfaces; despite the seemingly grippy tread pattern, I slipped several times on wet stone, brick, and wood. I suspect it's the Vibram, as I had no problems on the same slick surfaces with regular rubber-soled shoes.

Great shoes. No break in required. Have hiked > 50 miles in wet conditions. I changed the inserts after first use to Superfeet, big improvement.

I am a woman with a wide foot, have great difficulty finding a comfortable hiking shoe, especially for long downhills. This shoe was comfortable right out of the box, and remained so on a rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon after just two weeks of breaking in period. Needed to re-order a half-size larger, as it seemed to run small. I wear custom orthotics, so can't comment as well about arch support.

I followed everyone's recommendation of going a size up. Its essentially true. There is a little bit more wiggle room in there than should be when climbing hills or none level surfaces, but for normal running around the looser fit is best for me.

I liked them over all, but after trying two pair, the inside by the heal wore a hole on both shoes much faster then the outsides/soles of the shoe wore out. I thought at first it was an issue with a slightly incorrect size - but it's happening a second time with a better fit.

These shoes developed construction and quality deficiencies within 20 days of use. Interior fabric in heel wore through on one shoe at the material seam and was beginning to do the same on the other. In the last 4 years I have experienced similar problems with other brands, in my opinion, poor design, inferior materials, and not made in the USA. Recommend that the company, for the cost build a shoe that will last as long as leather lined hiking shoes do.

This review is for people who climb class 3 and 4 routes and hike long, difficult, rocky trails. I did not buy these for easy day hikes, work, shopping or walking the dog in wet grass (really?!?). I bought these for serious adventure. I am extremely hard on shoes and have yet to find a pair that can stand up to my abuse. The Merrell Moab GTX fell apart after 1.5 years, and you can forget about La Sportiva, Hi-Tec or TNF making any durable footwear in this category. I can’t yet attest to the Drifter’s long-term durability, but after a half dozen climbs and hikes, first impressions are good. The Drifters are beefy. And heavy. I am typically an ultralight devotee, but durability and protection from rocks were paramount in this case, so I was willing to concede for a purpose-built shoe. The Vibram sole is bomber. It’s the reason for the Drifter’s heft, but I’ve skimped on the sole before to save weight and regretted it. Deep lugs and the directional tread provide excellent traction even in steep, loose gullies. The rubber rand goes all the way around the shoe, and the back of the foot is entirely shrouded in rubber. Excellent protection but with enough flex to allow you to climb with confidence. Surprisingly comfortable for such a burly shoe. Sizing is true. Wide toe box. As for this silly “Style” rating that so many people commented on in their reviews? Seriously?? If that's a concern for you, you shouldn't be buying these shoes anyway. I gave it 1 star just to scare you people away.

These shoes rock! Literally, they go through rocks, sand, mud, rain, anything really while staying virtually clean because of the moisture wicking gore-tex. As for the issue of some reviews stating that the sizing is too small, I tend to disagree. Unless you're wearing some super-thick socks, I think that the sizing runs true, and I'm a consistent size 12. Wear 'em a lot the first few days to break them in and you'll have some nice hiking or all-around shoes for a few years depending on your use.

These may be the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned! The Vibram sole has large cushioning tread and the bottom inside of the shoe seems to form fit to my foot. It also is cushioned. And the Gore-Tex works well. We went hiking on a puddle covered trail and my feet stayed dry! They're pricey, but worth it! I'm flat footed and tend to walk on the inside of my feet (pronate). After two months they're doing well with this but perhaps could do better.
