So comfortable and light as a feather. Who says that a hiking boot has got to be heavy?!

Unfortunately I guess I'm going to be reviewing a few different hiking boots. Thank you Zappos, for your very generous policy which allows me to get the best boot for me. My street shoe size is 7 1/2 B (for Bunion). Not as pronounced as many I've seen, but still I want to be cautious. I'm going on my first hiking trip in years and don't want to be sidelined by blisters and uncomfortable shoes. Of the three boots I ordered in my first round, this was my favorite out of the box. Noticeably lighter weight than the Keens but sadly too snug for me. I did not feel any spots that I would be afraid would rub, on the ankle which was a concern for me on the others. I ordered an 8, and I don't think an 8.5 is going to help with the width. Too bad, I love what I read about Ahnu and for someone not working around a bunion, I'm sure these would be great.

Had to return these because unfortunately they were too narrow and hurt my feet. I guess my feet might be a tad wide, though not so much that I typically need wider shoes. So I'd say the shoe runs narrow.

This was a nice boot and I wanted to keep it. It was so light! But the top of it dug into my ankle in the most painful way. Not for me.

I bought these boots as they came highly recommended. I wore these boots around the house and found them to be comfortable so I took the boots on a 35 mile hike. After five miles of uphill climbing I had blisters on both heels and by the end of the hike the bottom of my feet were sore. These boots are lightweight and comfortable but not suitable for anything more than day hikes or light backpacking.

I first bought these on Amazon and it appeared that I got boots from two different pairs as one was at least ¼" wider, measured from the seam. This was really noticeable in the wearing as my forefoot was not stable in the right boot. I sent them back and ordered on Zappos, which resulted in the same thing! One of the boots is visibly wider if you compare them side by side. I love Ahnu and have two other pair of flats but this shows very poor quality control, especially in hiking boots where fit really matters and you want a consistent fit on both feet. My husband got the Mens version and he loves them. I am going to try another color - black looks to be slightly different leather - and see if it makes a difference. The one that fits feels great!

These boots are awesome! I ordered a half size up from my usual sized based on reviews, and they fit perfectly with hiking socks. Unlike other hiking shoes, these do not require breaking in, so I wore them new on a hiking trip in Maine and they were very comfortable and durable.

THESE are the boots! I did everything you're not supposed to do, including buying a pair of boots and some smart wool socks and taking them to Switzerland without breaking them in. NO PROBLEMS! No blisters! I'm an 8 /12 - 9 medium and the 9's fit perfectly with thin (not padded) smartwools. The boots are surprisingly lightweight super comfy. I hiked up and down mountains 4-5 hours a day in July without any problems. I'm a convert. These boots are the bomb.

Bought these the first time earlier this year. Wore them out of the box hiking in Kentucky's Natural Bridge State Park without issue. Thought they were good boots. Then, this week in Baton Rouge, they got a work out gutting homes impacted by the flood. They kept my feet dry in the toxic water left behind as I ripped out sheet rock, carried out soggy carpet, waded through the debris of people' lives and helped them reclaim their homes. Mine are a little worse for the wear now after multiple homes and some nasty stuff, but they never let me down. I ordered a new pair this week.

Super comfortable boot! I have problem feet and toes...a wide foot, with bunions and hammertoes....so I am always on the lookout for a shoe/boot that will address those issues. The toe box of these Ahnu Montara boots allows enough width and height space to accommodate my always-sore feet. Big, big plus for me. I thought they would need a breaking-in period, but my feet were happy right from the start and stayed that way through use. Also love the lace hooks at the top...very convenient, and the color is gorgeous. Quality construction, quality feel.

I have been walking around the house for the last couple of days testing the Ahnu Sugarpine and Montara Boots. The Montara is sturdier and likely better for hiking places where you might turn your ankle or bang your foot on rocks. The Sugarpine also gives good support, but is a softer more running-shoe feeling boot, yet great for hiking any place too! Both have great soles and both avoid feeling bulky. Because I have arthritis in my feet, I buy my hiking boots one full size larger than my regular shoe size to give my old toes space. (I have a friend, who has done a lot of hiking in a lot of places around North America, and who buys her boot 2 sizes larger than her shoes size!) I wear two pairs of socks to get a good fit. My feet (and probably everyone else's) swell when I hike. So I tested these boots before and after a hearty hike. Again, the one full size larger is the way to go for my feet. The important thing is that both these boots lace up beautifully so that my ankle and heel are snug (no rubbing or blisters) while my toes are comfy-cushioned by my double socks. I want them both! My husband has the Montara boot, which he really likes. At the moment, I am thinking of purchasing the Montara but that Sugarpine is beaconing. I recommend both.

Finally bit the bullet on these pricey babies. (Ahnu Navy Suede Montara) I bought these especially for a trip to The Netherlands this September. I wore them around today (1st time) and they were very comfortable. I ordered 1/2 size up as suggested for wearing with heavier socks. I wore regular cotton socks today and was happy my feet didn't overheat. I'm hopeful they'll stand up to all the walking I'll be doing, along with keeping my feet dry during rainy weather. I think they're pretty damn cute too! Will update after my trip abroad.

I wear an 8 but in this boot I needed a 9. Super light and extremely comfortable. Wish there had been more basic color choices but I do like the Chocolate Chip. You put these on and you don't want to take them off. I walked through creeks on a major hike and feet were dry. Great boot.

Best boots EVER! I work on my feet all day in all kinds of footing/terrain training horses. I've been suffering from foot and leg cramps and back aches for months. These boots are a little bit of heaven and took no break in time. Worth every penny! They are true to size, but no extra room for thick socks. Order half size up for winter wear or thick hiking socks.

I researched several boots online before buying these. My criteria: arch support, comfortable fit, really good traction on ice and snow, and a stylish look. Based on the reviews this boot made the cut. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I bought them in a size 10 Forest Night Suede. The color is gorgeous - more green than grey. Other reviewers suggested sizing up, I am usually a 9.5 or a 10 (more often a 9.5). I bought the 10 and the fit is perfect. The ankle support in this boot is incredible, and I didn't even realize this was something I wanted. They're super cute too, they actually kind of make my foot look smaller? I can't recommend them highly enough. Some colors were on sale recently through other suppliers but not the color I chose.

I purchased these boots in February 2013. I had been having a of back pain and I suspected it was because I needed some new, comfortable footwear. I have bunions on both feet and a rather long second toe on each, which makes finding a comfortable shoe that won't be too tight, or make blisters rather difficult sometimes. In addition, I am a dog walker so I am on my feet, hiking through the park, in all weather, on all terrain, ever day. From February to May, wearing these boots was like giving my feet a luxurious vacation. I literally wore them every day, all day. My back problems went away and my feet felt comfortable. Once May came around, I had to switch to a new, lighter weight shoe since these became extremely hot to wear so often. My back pain is creeping in again and I get blisters on my bunions sometimes. I sure miss wearing these Ahnus!

I love them! I normally need a "wide" shoe or boot, but I ordered a 1/2 size larger (as others recommended) and the boot fits perfectly - and is very comfortable! No break-in required! And they're cute. Silly - but I want to get more in other colors!

I just hiked for 9 days in Iceland in this boot and I love it! Total comfort and ankle support! I have a chronic achilles tendonitis in one ankle and frequent plantar fasciitis in both feet and this boot was wonderful! I had no problems at all. Ordered mine one half size larger and it was perfect with thick socks. They also keep your feet warm and dry. I highly recommend them if you have problem feet like I do!

Love, love, love the Ahnu Montara Boot! I was looking for a boot that I could use everyday for a 20 minute walk through the woods and grassy fields. My two prior pair of waterproof boots would allow the dew to seep into my toes... not a nice feeling. I could tell right away that the construction of the Ahnu boots would be better. They are light weight, well constructed and very good looking. I was a bit surprised as to the roominess of the boot. I solved the problem by adding the footbed from my non-waterproof boot below the footbed of the Ahnu and perfect fit and it added a bit of arch support. I've been walking everyday for 2 months and not a drop of moisture has passed through to my toes!

I love these boots. I bought them to hike Machu Picchu and did not have to break them in at all. I normally wear a size 8 shoe but 8.5 athletic shoe. The size 8 Ahnu was short in the toe but the 8.5 was just perfect, with room in the front for swelling or hiking down hill. There boots are awesome. Also, they are the best looking, most urban styled hiking boot out there.

So I'm a solid size 8, I ordered an 8.5 off of reviews which were completely valid. These are light weight and super comfortable boots. I have hiked scree and talus fields with ease in these boots. They are my go-to winter hiking boot as they keep my feet crazy warm. The ONLY downside is one I found today. Monsoon season has just hit the mountains, I took out my trusty boots and went for an 11 mile hike. condensation was still abundant on the flora to the sides of the trail but no puddles. Tacky track but not muddy and no standing water. despite those details, my feet were soaked through and through. These boots actually held water IN them. So use caution. I would say these are perfect for winter for sure and every dry season hike you would want to take, but to be weary of wet conditions, despite the fact that i was not tromping through streams/puddles/the ocean....my feet were absolutely drenched.

Love the boot and my first hike of the season was comfortable the entire way from start to finish! And they look good for a hiking boot! So many styles are clunky and chunky and this one is not. Yay Ahnu!

I am so appreciative of others who take time to write thoughtful reviews. I read them. Previously purchased the Ahnu Placer boot (size 9 on a whim, which worked) for my first northern Minnesota winter. Love them. Realized that if I was gonna be in boots for at least 6 months, I need a second pair. I have a beloved pair of Ecco, gortex and leather boots that served well in the woods of northern California but they are lacking traction on snow and ice. I wear a size 8 in most shoes, but I ordered a half size up in this boot - the Montara - as reviewers suggested. I wore them outdoors today in minus 17 degree weather. Medium weight wool socks fit well inside the spacious toe box that provides lots of wiggle room. There is room for heavier socks as needed. The boot height is good...laces snug but remains comfortable. The two top shoe lace 'hooks' make it easy to snug up the boot. I sometimes require an orthotic, and while the arch support in this shoe isn't 'excellent', it offered plenty of support today. I suspect one could insert an orthotic if wanted. Excellent traction today in snowy and icy parking lots. Feet were warm. I wore this boot for 4-5 hours and it was comfortable first time out. The 'winetasting' color is just that - the color of an old vine zinfandel. And the plaid lining just makes me smile when I put them on and take them off. :)

I loved this boot - it's absolutely lightweight, lovely colors, and comfortable. But for me, they rolled too much to the inside. I need more arch support so had to return.
